Background / History
Marginalization within Konoha
The Uchiha originally lived near the center of Konoha. Following the Nine-Tails incident seven years before the massacre, the village suspected Uchiha involvement after witnesses saw a Sharingan pattern in the beast’s eyes; the clan was gradually relocated to its later compound and subjected to increasing suspicion. 4
The clan had suffered heavy losses against the Mist Village during the previous war but received no benefits afterward. Dissatisfaction within the clan and Konoha leadership’s suspicion escalated into an irreconcilable conflict. Arashi specifically blames Fugaku for failing to restrain the clan’s radicals. 4
Although villagers had feared offending the Uchiha while the Police Force existed, many openly celebrated the clan’s destruction afterward and repeated claims that it had planned a coup. 6
Clan Massacre
Uchiha Itachi slaughtered the clan on the night of the massacre, using the overwhelming power of his Mangekyō Sharingan against clan members, including non-combatants and Uchiha who had never awakened the Sharingan. 1
Konoha sealed the clan grounds to prevent escape, while Root moved to collect Sharingan from the dead. Arashi recovered a portion of the clan’s secret techniques, assets, land deeds, and scrolls before they could be fully confiscated. 4 5
Uchiha Arashi used his Shadow Space to rescue Uchiha Shizuka, Uchiha Izumi, and several orphaned children. The survivors subsequently learned that Itachi had acted against the clan and that Konoha’s leadership had enabled the destruction. 1 2 4
Surviving Remnant
Arashi and Izumi hid the children in the Shadow Space, where Izumi taught literacy and ninjutsu while Arashi supplied food, educational materials, and recovered clan resources. 5 7
The children were taught that they were survivors and avengers rather than dependents living in safety. Their training was intended to preserve the Uchiha bloodline and eventually retaliate against Itachi and Konoha. 7 25
The remnant’s existence was eventually discovered by Root through discrepancies in the Uchiha body count. Konoha’s attempts to pursue them led to repeated clashes, including the deaths of three Anbu squads near the Land of Rain. 11 36
Abilities & Traits
Sharingan
The Sharingan is the clan’s defining ocular bloodline trait and a major source of both its military reputation and Konoha’s fear of it. Not every Uchiha awakens the eye; several massacre victims lacked the Sharingan or notable ninjutsu talent. 1 6
- Three-tomoe Sharingan users are treated as formidable ninja; Jiraiya compares them to jōnin-level combatants. 49
- Sharingan users possess enhanced perception, allowing them to follow opponents’ movements and notice subtle spatial distortions. 10 41
- Arashi can sense the distinctive chakra fluctuations of a Sharingan when its bearer enters the range of his Shadow Space. 14
- The clan’s eyes were treated as valuable spoils: Root collected them after the massacre, and Arashi later traded three three-tomoe eyes to Orochimaru. 5 21
Mangekyō Sharingan
The Mangekyō Sharingan is an exceptionally rare advanced form of the Sharingan. Itachi’s Mangekyō was described as having absolute suppression over ordinary three-tomoe Sharingan. 1
- Mangekyō wielders can possess radically different ocular techniques, including genjutsu, space-time techniques, and elemental enhancement. 22 49
- Its frequent use damages the user’s vision and can lead to blindness. Hashirama Cells are pursued by Arashi and Izumi as a means of reducing this burden. 18 22
- Izumi awakened a Mangekyō pattern after resolving to avenge her mother and clan. 5
- Arashi relies on stolen Mangekyō eyes rather than an innate awakening for much of the story; he later awakens his own two-tomoe Sharingan. 3 14 44
Fire Release and Combat Training
Fire Release is used by multiple Uchiha survivors in combat and training. Izumi employs Fire Style alongside Lightning Release, while Arashi uses the Great Fireball Technique during their sparring. 41 42
- Izumi oversees ninjutsu education for the younger survivors. 5 7
- The children must master and sustain the Transformation Technique before Arashi permits them to move outside the Shadow Space. 7
- Ayatsuki had reached genin-level strength by the time she received an Eye of God. 25
