Background

Yang Kaitai is a transmigrator who initially regards his arrival in the Multiverse Chat Group as proof that he is protagonist material. Recognizing several members and their worlds, he considers impersonating the All-Knowing and All-Powerful Immortal to exploit the group. He abandons the plan after learning that the previous holder of that name was killed, immediately renames himself Newbie, and adopts a deferential tone toward the other members 275 276.

He originates from the Great Desolation World, an almost boundless continent where individual nations are larger than Earth and worship of the Three Pure Ones, Two Buddhas, Three Sovereigns, and Five Emperors is widespread. Despite this setting, he initially considers himself an insignificant figure: the master of a Taoist temple in a small country, without firsthand contact with the legendary gods of his world 282.

By the time Bai Ye visits his temple, Yang has become the country’s national mentor and commands thousands of disciples. His cultivation has approached Level 8, which he attributes to the methods supplied by Bai Ye 413.

Yang Kaitai is opportunistic and genre-savvy. His first instinct upon joining the Chat Group is to use his knowledge of familiar worlds and characters to deceive others, but he quickly changes course when faced with the group’s lethal power dynamics 275 276.

He is notably cautious around stronger beings. He warns Bai Ye about the risks of fighting Sun Wukong, is overwhelmed when made the proposed scripture disseminator, and repeatedly attempts to decline the mission because it may involve Saints and take decades to complete 276 423.

Despite his insecurity, Yang can adjust his outlook. After learning that even Immortals must rely on collective Great Dao cultivation, he accepts that he is also benefiting from extraordinary advantages through the Chat Group and Bai Ye’s assistance, then agrees to participate in the Heavenly Soldiers’ cultivation system 418.

Temple Master and Ascension

While managing his Taoist temple, Yang continues cultivating Bai Ye’s methods and considers offering his own technique for Bai Ye to deduce and improve 307. When Bai Ye visits, he finds Yang near Level 8 and offers to bring him to the true Great Desolation Upper Realm 413.
