Chang Rui is Xia Xueqing's best friend and comes from an influential Yang City family. Her father is the second-in-command of the Yang City District federal government, overseeing the district's logistical resources; this status gives Chang Rui considerable social influence. 13

She attended Yang City Noble School, where she developed a long-running rivalry with Wen Yuanyuan. Their families were once close because their fathers served together in the same ninja squad, and the two girls had known one another since childhood before turning their relationship into constant competition. 17

Yang City Campus Ninja Tournament

Chang Rui joins Xia Xueqing and Su Bai's three-person tournament team, but initially believes Su Bai will contribute nothing. Su Bai's Earth Release in the semi-finals overturns her opinion, while Chang Rui supports the team with Wind Release: Great Breakthrough. 14 18

After Su Bai proves his strength, Chang Rui becomes openly supportive of him and urges him to defeat Wen Yuanyuan's team. 19

Su Bai's Detention

When Su Bai is detained after a fight, Chang Rui immediately acts on learning the news. She leads Xia Xueqing and Su Bai's parents to the police station and pressures Director Liu to release him. 25

Wasteland Zone Training

Chang Rui joins Su Bai's squad for Wasteland Zone missions. During the Black-Scaled Horse hunt, she and Wen Yuanyuan execute a Wind-Fire combination attack, but Chang Rui is later targeted by the beast and saved by Su Bai. 65
