First Appearance Chapter 40

Origin and Grades

Chakra God Trees can grow where Tailed Beasts remain for long periods. They absorb chakra emitted by the beasts over years and eventually bear fruit 114 120. Ordinary fruits are graded according to the danger level of their Secret Realm; A-Rank fruits are particularly scarce, with a tree in an A-Rank realm often bearing only one or two 40 158.

Grade Chakra increase when eligible Interval between chakra increases Distinguishing details
D-Rank 10–20 units Three months Dark red and grape-sized; Su Bai absorbs the full 20-unit increase from his first fruit 40 63 76
C-Rank 20–50 units Three months Date-red and roughly walnut-sized; an earlier description gives its range as 30–50 units 76 82 100
B-Rank 50–70 units Six months Black; awarded as the first-place prize in the academy entrance examination 83 100
A-Rank 70–100 units One year Golden; Su Bai gains 100 units from one he consumes 172 184

Effects and Limitations

  • Constitution and attributes: The fruit’s primary function is to alter a ninja’s physical constitution, not merely increase chakra. Su Bai’s first D-Rank fruit also gives him 100 experience points in each of his Yin and Yang Attributes 63.
  • Chakra recovery: Fruits can rapidly replenish spent chakra even when the consumer is not eligible for another chakra-level increase. Su Bai keeps D-Rank fruits for emergencies 77 100.
  • Chakra-increase interval: Eating additional fruit before the relevant interval expires does not repeatedly raise Chakra Level. Its other physical effects can still apply 63 82 172.
  • Diminishing returns: As Su Bai grows stronger, a D-Rank fruit’s Yin and Yang gains fall from 100 to 20 experience points each. After those attributes reach Level 8, a B-Rank fruit provides only 200 points 100 142.
  • Foundation risk: Xia Xueqing warns that taking a fruit too early can force growth at the expense of a Genin’s foundation. She says a Genin should preferably have more than ten units of chakra before taking their first 40.
  • Upper limit: Butterfly states that a ninja whose Chakra Level exceeds fifteen tails and whose life level has risen more than fifteen times becomes immune to the effects of ordinary God Tree Fruits, including A-Rank ones 297.

Acquisition and Value

  • The Hunter Guild lists a D-Rank fruit at 10 billion Federal Coins. Higher grades generally require barter or are awarded for missions rather than sold for money 40.
  • A C-Rank fruit is valued at roughly ten D-Rank fruits, and a B-Rank fruit at roughly ten C-Rank fruits. A-Rank fruits are rarer still and cannot ordinarily be obtained through the academy’s exchange 76 83 147 172.
  • Nine Provinces Academy awards God Tree Fruits for examination performance and lets students exchange Academy Credits for them. Su Bai uses both routes to improve his Yin and Yang Attributes 83 100.
  • Fruit-bearing trees attract competition in Secret Realms. Su Bai’s squad harvests 196 D-Rank fruits from three trees after fighting the Tailed Beasts and rival ninja squads guarding them 123 126 127.

God Tree Seed Fruits

Fruits grown from specially graded God Tree seeds differ from the A–D fruits found in Secret Realms. Each seed grows one tree that bears one fruit; the seeds are ranked red, purple, and black 265 298.

  • Red-seed fruit — grants a false Rinnegan with weaker ocular power and fewer techniques 298.
  • Purple-seed fruit — grants a true Rinnegan but does not raise the user’s Yin and Yang Attributes 298.
  • Black-seed fruit — grants a true Rinnegan and raises Yin and Yang Attributes enough for its ocular power to recover after use, provided the consumer’s body can withstand the fruit 298.
