Background / History

Academy Rivalry and Defeat

Yu Feng and Osler were born only days apart into families that were old friends. Their elders had arranged a marriage before discovering that both children were boys, then hoped they would become close like brothers. Instead, they became lifelong rivals, competing in cultivation and bickering whenever they met. Their soul power remained closely matched, but Yu Feng’s flight advantage kept Osler from winning their sparring matches 19.

Through Osler, Yu Feng joined a small circle with Xing Tian and Ye Lingling. In his first practical match against Xing Tian, he attempted close combat with Wing Blade, then switched to airborne ranged attacks after discovering the strength gap. Xing Tian evaded his attacks until flight and repeated skill use exhausted him, then struck his wings with Night Fierce Light. Ye Lingling treated his injuries afterward 19 20.

Following Xing Tian

At level 27, Yu Feng feared being left behind by his classmates and losing a place on the Imperial Fighting Team. After witnessing Xing Tian defeat Yu Tianheng again, he visited Xing Tian and Osler’s dormitory and acknowledged Xing Tian as his boss 79 84 290.

Xing Tian rewarded his loyalty with the Flowing Cloud Wind Essence Flower, which brought him to level 30 and evolved his Martial Soul. He also supplied sealing techniques and the Flying Cloud martial art. Yu Feng accepted Xing Tian’s authority as both boss and teacher, promising not to transmit the techniques without permission—even to his family 85 86.

Vast Sea City and the Soul Master Tournament

Following the battle against the Wolf Bandits, Xing Tian gave Yu Feng the leader’s wind-attributed Soul Bone. In Vast Sea City, Qin Ming selected him for the team’s first arena match because flight offered an advantage against sea Soul Masters. Great White Shark’s water-enhanced attacks nevertheless pushed him hard. Yu Feng adapted and won through his evolved Martial Soul’s innate ability, deliberately withholding his Soul Bone ability to avoid attracting trouble 197 198 199.

During the tournament battle against Shrek, Yu Feng coordinated with Yu Tianheng in a counterattack that injured Ning Rongrong and Oscar and eliminated them. The pair later held off Tang San while Dugu Yan dismantled the Hell White Tiger, suffering considerable injuries but remaining able to fight. After the tournament, Yu Feng graduated with the Imperial Fighting Team and temporarily returned to his family 263 266 271.

Soul Spirits and the Immortal Church

The Green Shadow Divine Eagle agreed to become Yu Feng’s Soul Spirit to repay a favor to Jin Ming, rather than from wholehearted attachment to Yu Feng. This prevented perfect fusion. Osler’s superior gains from the Scorpion Tiger subsequently erased the advantage Yu Feng had built through his evolved Martial Soul, Flying Cloud, and Soul Bones 287 290.

After the Speed Clan joined Xing Tian’s followers, Bai He arranged for Yu Feng to meet Bai Chenxiang. She preferred his handsome appearance and easygoing personality to Ma Hongjun’s, and the pair confirmed their relationship after one meeting. Yu Feng later brought her to meet the soul beasts and learn about Soul Spirits 417 418 422.

Despite the benefits of fusing with the Jade Bird, Yu Feng felt overshadowed by companions who had acquired powerful dragon and phoenix abilities. Xing Tian noticed his concealed disappointment. At a later Immortal Church council meeting, Xing Tian gave him the Wind and Cloud Far-Reaching Method, finally resolving his frustration over lacking a compatible cultivation technique 431 442.

Appearance

  • Face: Described as more handsome than Osler; Bai Chenxiang also considers him more handsome than Ma Hongjun 19 418.
  • Original wings: Medium-sized, brownish-yellow wings with sturdy, solid feathers 20.
  • Evolved wings: Pale cyan, cloudlike wings with mist-thin feathers and a wingspan approximately 30% wider than before 85.
  • After Jade Bird fusion: His Martial Soul’s light, illusory appearance gains sharpness, solidity, and strength 430.

Personality

Yu Feng is playful, competitive, and initially proud of his aerial superiority. He takes particular satisfaction in reminding Osler that he has never beaten him in a spar. Their rivalry also motivates sustained training: when Osler begins advancing faster under Xing Tian, Yu Feng works to preserve his own advantage 19 290.

He can set aside pride when he recognizes a path to greater strength. After pledging loyalty to Xing Tian, he studies attentively, follows instructions, and treats the techniques entrusted to him as restricted teachings. His gratitude is genuine, though comparison with stronger companions repeatedly provokes envy and insecurity. He does not blame Xing Tian for lacking suitable methods; receiving one later dispels his accumulated frustration 84 86 290 431 442.

Abilities & Skills

Flight and Wind Attribute

His avian Martial Soul provides aerial mobility, while its wind attribute supports ranged attacks and battlefield positioning 20 80.

  • Flight gives him a strong advantage against grounded opponents, particularly Osler in their early spars 19.
  • His exceptional avian eyesight can locate an opponent beneath the arena pool’s ten-meter-deep water 197.
  • The immortal herb strengthens his wind attribute; Flying Cloud deepens his understanding and perception of wind 197.
  • Maintaining flight consumes soul power. Prolonged, ineffective attacks left him vulnerable during his first match with Xing Tian 20.

Soul Skills

Soul Skill Ring Documented Effects
Wing Blade First Turns his wing edges into knife-sharp blades for diving attacks 20.
Flying Blade Rock-Breaking Strike Second Launches two cone-shaped air currents; combining it with Wing Blade increases its power 20.
Gale Sky Wings Third Doubles his wind-attribute power, gale attack range, and flying speed 198.
Wind Bird Fourth Used against Great White Shark; its preparation gathers a giant bird phantom around him 198.

Flowing Cloud Illusion Wind Bird

The Flowing Cloud Wind Essence Flower evolves his original Martial Soul into a top-tier avian Martial Soul with powerful ranged attacks and an illusory body 85 431.

  • Its innate ability is decisive in his victory against Great White Shark 199.
  • Its illusory body can reduce some damage, but its close-combat strength initially falls short of comparable top-tier Martial Souls 431.
  • Fusion with the Jade Bird compensates for this weakness by adding physical toughness; Yu Feng’s softer, illusory qualities also feed back into the Soul Spirit 430 431.
  • Xing Tian estimates that the immortal herb’s medicinal power will not be fully refined until Yu Feng reaches the Soul Emperor realm 85.

Flying Cloud

Xing Tian teaches him a paired movement and offensive martial art 85 86.

  • Four Steps of Flying Cloud: Footwork component 85.
  • Four Forms of Flying Cloud: External technique component, incorporating leg techniques 85 86.
  • Further techniques: The instruction includes Clouds Part to Reveal the Sun and Passing Clouds and Mist 86.
  • Restriction: Yu Feng may not pass the teachings to anyone without Xing Tian’s permission 86.

Sealing and Cultivation Techniques

  • Sealing techniques: Allow him to conceal part of his increased soul power after consuming the immortal herb 85.
  • Wind and Cloud Far-Reaching Method: A compatible cultivation manual divided into Wind and Cloud chapters, with matching external techniques. Receiving it resolves the deficiency that had kept him behind Osler 442.

Body of Nothingness

A Soul Bone skill that makes his body incorporeal 197.

  • Works especially well in combination with his Martial Soul 197.
  • He avoids using it during the Great White Shark match to prevent unnecessary attention 199.

Soul Spirits

Soul Spirit Name Characteristics
Green Shadow Divine Eagle Xiao Qing Top-tier soul beast; supplies his fifth Soul Ring. Its debt-driven agreement prevents perfect fusion with him 287 290 433.
Jade Bird Xiao Yu Hundred-thousand-year Soul Spirit with an exceptionally strong physique. Fusion strengthens Yu Feng’s close combat and places a considerable burden on his spiritual power 431 433.
