Background / History

Ye Lingling is Ye Renxin’s granddaughter and inherited the Nine-Heart Begonia, the world’s premier healing-type martial soul. Its inheritance carries a curse: only two Nine-Heart Begonia Soul Masters can exist at once. Her parents died for the sake of a newly born Nine-Heart Begonia, leaving her burdened by guilt and resistant toward her own martial soul. The inheritance also contributed to her increasingly reclusive personality. 4 54 55

As a one-ring Soul Master, she found the dying Lian Xiaotian and spent all of her Soul Power attempting to heal him. The event gave him a lasting sense of gratitude and protectiveness toward her. 3 55

Ye Renxin arranged for Lingling and Xing Tian to attend Heaven Dou Royal Academy together, hoping that Xing Tian could become both a companion and a powerful combat partner for her. He also believed Xing Tian’s unusual experience with martial-soul reconstruction might offer a path to ending the Nine-Heart Begonia curse. 4

Lingling entered the academy while Xing Tian trained in seclusion. She was protected from bullying by the Ye family’s influence and her friendship with Dugu Yan, and was noted for both high talent and diligence despite being a support-type Soul Master. 13 16

After accepting her feelings for Xing Tian and her own inheritance, Lingling successfully consumed the Lovesick Heartbreak Red. Her Nine-Heart Begonia evolved into the Saint-Heart Begonia, apparently freeing her from the inherited curse and fundamentally expanding her healing and defensive potential. 56 57

Personality

Lingling is gentle, compassionate, and instinctively protective of others. Even as a novice Soul Master, she did not hesitate to expend all her strength to save a stranger in a gruesome condition. 3 55

Her family history initially left her withdrawn and fearful that others might die because of her inheritance. She eventually confronts this guilt, accepts both her feelings for Xing Tian and her role as a healer, and resolves to protect those she loves while ending the curse’s legacy. 54 56

She can also be candid when she believes Xing Tian is being overly detached, directly rebuking him for dismissing another person’s feelings on their behalf. 143
