Background / History
Shrek Academy is regarded by many as a sanctuary, but Li Ang views it chiefly as a powerful shield against external trouble and a place to continue developing while remaining close to the Body Sect in Shrek City. He deliberately plans to conceal his second and third forms, relying publicly on his Guardian Beasts to avoid excessive attention. 71 78
The academy possesses an enormous share of the Douluo World's Soul Master resources, though its students receive only a small portion directly. Students must earn points through work or missions, reflecting Shrek's uncompromising survival-of-the-fittest culture. 79 89
Its Inner Court has particularly strict entry standards: students require a complete One-Word Battle Armor and Soul King- or Soul Emperor-level strength. Most ordinary entrants reach the Inner Court only after years of study, while Youth Class students may advance earlier. 82
Li Ang's Entry and Appointment
At the Skysea Alliance Grand Competition, Li Ang asks Wu Zhangkong to arrange an opportunity to challenge Shrek Academy students. Wu Zhangkong introduces him to Outer Court Dean Cai Yue'er, who offers admission based on victories in two matches. 78 79
Li Ang instead seeks a position as an Outer Court teacher. Cai Yue'er agrees to consider it if he defeats two challengers and then a substantially stronger adult opponent. 79 After defeating Ye Xinglan and Inner Court student Ding Xiaoling, he receives Cai Yue'er's promise of a Soul Bone and a position at the academy. 79 83 84
The Sea God Pavilion Elder Council later considers his request. Despite initial resistance from conservative elders, Yun Ming's intervention enables Li Ang to receive a three-month probationary teaching period. 86 87
Li Ang's Teaching Career
Li Ang's elective, Soul Spirit Training Theory, becomes popular for its practical methods of improving Soul Spirit cultivation and combat power. At one credit per class, the course rises on Shrek's Useful Course Ranking List over two years. 87
After establishing himself as an instructor, Li Ang becomes the first-year homeroom teacher. His first assessment pits the entire class against his Little Black Dog; he appoints Gu Yue as class monitor and Na'er and Xu Xiaoyan as vice-monitors according to their performance. 88 89
Li Ang later proposes replacing a field combat exercise with a comprehensive competition against the Spirit Pagoda's Spirit Academy. Cai Yue'er considers the proposal beneficial to Shrek's reputation. 102
Previous-Era Academy
After traveling ten thousand years into the past, Li Ang enrolls in the previous era's Shrek Academy using a stolen recommendation letter and suppressed Soul Power. He alters Huo Yuhao's dormitory assignment, captures Wang Dong, and plans to infiltrate the Sea God Pavilion. 90 91
The previous-era Sea God Pavilion differs greatly from its later counterpart. Its fourth floor contains medicinal herbs rather than the Spirit Bones Li Ang expected, and its protections alert elder Xuan Zi when Li Ang removes a Spirit Bone. 92
Campus and Facilities
- Outer Court — Overseen by Cai Yue'er; Li Ang seeks and receives an Outer Court teaching position through her evaluation process. 79 84 86
- Inner Court — Requires a complete One-Word Battle Armor and Soul King- or Soul Emperor-level strength for entry. 82
- Youth Class — A special placement Cai Yue'er initially offers Li Ang if he wins his second match. 79
- Sea God Pavilion — A major academy location associated with elder deliberations, Spirit Bone resources, and Li Ang's audience to claim his reward. 84 86
- Sea God Lake — Surrounds the Sea God Pavilion; Li Ang crosses it while infiltrating the previous-era pavilion. 92
- Treasury resources — Includes Spirit Bones, medicinal herbs, and high-grade Soul Tools. Academy teachers recommend Grade 6–8 Soul Tools and an Emergency Safe House for wilderness travel. 86 90 92
Rules and Educational Culture
Shrek operates according to a blunt principle: strength determines status. This applies to both students and teachers, and conventional selection procedures or kindness are secondary to demonstrated capability. 89
- Students earn credits and access to resources through personal work, missions, and performance rather than guaranteed allocations. 79
- A class monitor receives substantial benefits, including credits, opportunities to interact with teachers, and extracurricular instruction. 89
- Li Ang awards Gu Yue 100 credits and the class-monitor role after she is the only student to damage his Little Black Dog during the assessment. 89
- Li Ang states that his nearly sixty-thousand-year Soul Spirit can contend with a Spirit Douluo, using this fact to establish authority over dissatisfied students. 89
- Teachers frequently travel across dangerous or remote regions, including the Endless Mountains, Evil Demon Forest, the remnants of the Star Dou Great Forest, and other continents. 90
Relationships
- Li Ang — Student candidate, Inner Court student, probationary teacher, and later first-year homeroom teacher; he uses the academy as protection, a source of resources, and a base for his development. 78 79 87 88
- Cai Yue'er — Outer Court Dean who evaluates Li Ang, supports his appointment, promises him a Soul Bone, and considers his educational proposals. 79 84 86 102
- Wu Zhangkong — Shrek graduate who arranges Li Ang's initial challenge opportunity; later serves as an assistant teacher and supports Li Ang's discussion of teaching methods. 78 88 102
- Sea God Pavilion Elder Council — Governing elders who debate Li Ang's request to become a teacher; initially resistant to the idea because of tradition and precedent. 86
- Yun Ming — His authority silences opposition within the Elder Council during deliberations over Li Ang's appointment. 86
- Spirit Academy — Spirit Pagoda-affiliated academy proposed by Li Ang as Shrek's direct opponent in a comprehensive student competition. 102
- Monster Academy — Rival academy defeated by Shrek's group during the Star Luo exchange; Li Ang's Little Black Dog cripples its leading student, Long Yue, before the team match. 130 131 132
- Star Luo Empire — Hosts Shrek's exchange delegation and provides royal transport to Star Luo City; Shrek's Super Douluos show little deference to the imperial family. 125 127
