Meeting Uchiha Chen

Tsume meets Uchiha Chen through Mebuki Haruno shortly before Konoha dispatches reinforcements to the front. She immediately treats him with easy familiarity, promising to protect him during the deployment. 93

While traveling toward the battlefield, Tsume estimates that the coming conflict with Kumogakure could last roughly three years if both sides commit fully. Chen’s compliment embarrasses her, but she retaliates by pulling him onto Black Maru’s back and teasing him in return. Their playful exchange ends with Tsume unexpectedly kissing him. 94

Deserter Hunt and Cloud Ninja Ambush

Mokume Kotō assigns Tsume to hunt a Konoha deserter whose intelligence could endanger the reinforcement force. She brings Makoto, Sota, and Chen with her, partly because she wants time alone with Chen despite the mission’s urgency. 96

When Black Maru detects a large group ahead, Tsume concludes that they are likely Cloud ninja or associates of the deserter and proposes an ambush. Although she has not worked out the details, she accepts Chen’s Explosive Tag plan to collapse a valley onto the enemy force. The ambush succeeds, and Tsume openly praises his contribution. 103 104

After the surviving Cloud ninja counterattack, Tsume eliminates two enemies assigned to distract her. Preventing the Sabotage Operation

A captured survivor reveals that more Cloud ninja have already continued toward the Land of Fire to conduct sabotage. Tsume sends Sota and Mahito to alert Konoha’s forces, while she and Chen continue the pursuit. 111

Although the traitor’s death site yields no immediate clues, Tsume trusts Chen’s deduction that the infiltrators will eventually target front-line supply convoys. Their subsequent operation eliminates the Cloud forces that entered the Land of Fire, and Tsume’s report to Mokume Kotō emphasizes Chen’s role in the success. 112 118

Reconnaissance Captain

Following the mission, Mokume Kotō appoints Tsume captain of the reconnaissance unit. She accepts the post without hesitation, while Chen is assigned command of Assault Team Seven. 119

Tsume worries about Chen’s safety when their assignments separate them. In return, Chen secretly places a resurrection technique within her eyes, intended to revive her a day after her death if she is killed. 119
