History
Infiltration Force
A Cloud infiltration squad entered Konoha territory while pursuing the rogue ninja Mizutani. Mingye captured Mizutani and extracted intelligence concerning a large Konoha reinforcement force, but Yuejian chose to exploit the information for an ambush rather than continue the original sabotage mission 100 102.
Yuejian led his group into a valley, where Uchiha Chen, Inuzuka Tsume, Zhenren, and Sota had prepared Explosive Tags along the cliffs. Chen countered Yuejian's Lightning Release with Fire Release, while the Konoha team triggered a landslide to trap the enemy force 103 104. Yuejian's surviving men were eliminated during the ensuing pursuit 105.
Mingye's remaining unit later set an Explosive Tag trap for Konoha forces, but Uchiha Chen countered with Shadow Clones and multiple Great Dragon Fire Techniques. Mingye and Washinomaru were defeated, after which the final two infiltrators were deceived by a genjutsu scroll into believing they had killed Chen; they died satisfied that they had avenged Mingye 114 117.
Frontline War
After Uchiha Chen's team destroyed twelve Cloud squads and two supply depots over a month, Kumogakure's frontline commander grew determined to eliminate him 129 135. Yugito Nii volunteered to confront Chen, relying on her status as a perfect jinchūriki and her ability to fully transform into the Two-Tails 135.
While Yugito fought Chen, Konoha launched a night raid on the Cloud camp. The Cloud commander recovered from the initial surprise, rallied his troops into paired formations, and used superior numbers to contain the attackers 147. The Cloud forces also anticipated Konoha's withdrawal, placing squads throughout the surrounding mountains and forests to block their retreat 150.
Chen's appearance and the manifestation of his enormous green Susanoo shattered Cloud morale. The commander attempted to dismiss the construct as deception, but many of his troops regarded Chen as an inhuman threat 152 153. Yugito was ultimately captured after exhausting herself in a prolonged battle against him 148.
Rescue Attempts and Peace Settlement
Kumogakure continued attacking Konoha's camp to retrieve Yugito. Samui organized assaults intended to create disorder rather than force a decisive battle, but Konoha had prepared defenses and repeatedly repelled the attackers 172 173.
The Cloud rescue pressure contributed to the collapse of Konoha's secret temporary jinchūriki experiment. Yugito exploited the disruption caused by the fighting to escape alongside Samui after the altered seal on her body weakened 176 187.
Uchiha Chen later announced that he had secured a peace agreement with the Cloud Ninja, ending the immediate conflict and requiring their withdrawal 190. Kumogakure subsequently sent a compensation delegation to Konoha, though its captain provoked violence against the reception party and was subdued by Chen 205 206 209.
Later Conflict and Conquest
The Raikage later joined an alliance of other Kage planning to destroy Konoha and confront Uchiha Chen again 360. Cloud forces used repeated sneak attacks during the wider war, but Konoha lured them into a counterambush. Danzō engaged the Raikage while Jiraiya stalled Killer B, forcing the pair to retreat 367.
When the Raikage and Killer B were captured and brought near Kumogakure, Yugito rallied the village's ninja to resist. Their resolve collapsed in the face of Uchiha Chen's Wood Golem and overwhelming strength 372. Kumogakure was among the four great shinobi villages conquered by Chen before he established the Land of Dust 379.
