History

Nine-Tails Attack and Reconstruction

Konoha suffers widespread destruction when Uchiha Obito, controlling the Nine-Tails, attacks the village. The Third Hokage directs civilian evacuations while Konoha shinobi sacrifice themselves to delay the beast; Hiruzen ultimately forces it beyond the village walls with Enma's Adamantine Nyoi. 38

After the attack, the village leadership clears the Uchiha clan of responsibility for the Sharingan visible in the Nine-Tails' eyes, while concealing the masked attacker’s identity behind a false public narrative. 42 Reconstruction priorities include restoring damaged infrastructure, strengthening security through Anbu and Root cooperation, and securing funding from the Land of Fire's daimyo. 44

Conflict with Kumogakure

Konoha mobilizes major clan forces, veteran commanders, and civilian shinobi for the Kumogakure front. The preliminary roster prioritizes the Hyuga, Aburame, and Inuzuka clans for reconnaissance, alongside commanders Mokume Kotō and Shikaku Nara. 85

During the conflict, Konoha's forces endure heavy losses in a night raid but hold until Shikaku’s reinforcements arrive. 149 Uchiha Chen’s battlefield actions—particularly his Susanoo-assisted defeat of several hundred Cloud Ninja—greatly raise morale and transform public opinion toward both him and the Uchiha clan. 155

The village eventually receives the news that a peace agreement with Kumogakure has been signed, prompting celebrations among its shinobi and civilians. 190

Leadership Crisis and Fifth Hokage Succession

Evidence extracted through Inoichi Yamanaka exposes Utatane Koharu and Mitokado Homura for conspiring with traitors against Konoha and the Uchiha clan. Hiruzen strips them of office, sentences them to execution, and announces his resignation as Hokage. 198

Uchiha Chen succeeds Hiruzen as the Fifth Hokage, receiving broad public support at his inauguration. 219 He immediately abolishes the elder system and replaces it with a council of six speakers and twelve council members; the speakers are Hiruzen Sarutobi, Shimura Danzō, Hyuga Hiashi, Shikaku Nara, Inuzuka Tsume, and Mokume Kotō. 219

Security and Military

Garrison Network

Konoha deploys garrison shinobi across the Land of Fire to form a preliminary defensive net. Their responsibilities include protecting settlements from wandering ninja and rogue samurai, monitoring foreign infiltration, and reporting intelligence. 254

The network still contains gaps at first, but it provides the intelligence that locates Tsunade. 254

Kotoamatsukami Barrier

A sealing-and-barrier system projects Kotoamatsukami’s influence across Konoha through its protective barrier. 328

During the war against the Iwagakure–Sunagakure alliance, two thousand Konoha shinobi activate their Cursed Seals simultaneously. The enhanced force, described as entirely Jonin-level, suffers virtually no casualties during the opening Earth Release assault. 363

Development

Konoha undergoes major physical modernization under Uchiha Chen’s rule. Wooden buildings are replaced in significant part by steel-reinforced concrete structures, with shinobi using ninjutsu to produce construction materials and rapidly erect new buildings. 287
