"Hiss... my head is killing me."
Obito rubbed his forehead vigorously and opened his eyes, only to freeze when he realized he wasn't in his own home. His mind was a blank slate, retaining only a few fragmented memories.
Damn it, I actually blacked out. He couldn't remember how much he'd drunk, and he hoped he didn't have a habit of babbling nonsense while intoxicated... Still, getting to know Tsunade was a small win.
He put on his coat, opened the door, and headed down the stairs, discovering he was still at the izakaya from the night before.
"Customer, you're awake? I've prepared some breakfast, have a bite," the landlady greeted him warmly.
"Uh, no need. Sorry for the trouble last night; I'll be sure to visit often," Obito said, scratching his head in embarrassment before quickly stepping out of the izakaya.
Man, that's embarrassing. Obito sighed. The stench of stale alcohol nearly made him gag. He leaped a few times to return to his small hideout, washed up, and lay on his bed, beginning to map out his future in his mind.
First, regarding strength: with the Mangekyo Sharingan in both eyes, the Kamui ability, his physical limitations now compensated for by the Three-Turn Golden Elixir, and a Ryujin Jakka in his possession, his raw power was already formidable. As long as the Otsutsuki didn't show up, he could do whatever he wanted as long as he was careful.
As for money, he had the 300 million ryo from Fugaku, which served as his startup capital. Obito already had a rough plan: to build a massive commercial empire within the Naruto World. By using economic influence to drive political change, he could avoid direct, head-on clashes until he had enough leverage to back his strength!
Becoming a Kage of a village wouldn't truly bring peace—or at least, not long-lasting peace.
As for the methods used by Nagato, Obito, and Madara in the original story, only a lunatic would do that. What's the point of peace if everyone is dead?
Only by binding the various nations of the Naruto World together through shared interests could a truly peaceful world be achieved. Of course, there would always be lunatics opposing this process, and in those cases, Obito would simply use force to eliminate the few heretics. Uniting the majority and eliminating the extreme minority was the operational policy he had set for himself.
Obito had already decided on the first step to building his commercial empire: becoming an author and writing books!
Through writing, printing, publishing, and newspaper media, he could create a complete industrial chain, earning money while gaining the influence and status to sway public opinion!
Writing books was incredibly profitable; Jiraiya had already proven that in the original story.
Moreover, the power of public opinion was something that had to be held in one's hands—it was a powerful soft power, a mental weapon! How did White Fang die? In that process, the suppression of public opinion by Danzo, the Third Hokage, and the upper echelons of Konoha had made White Fang's situation dire. It wouldn't be strange to say that White Fang was killed by public opinion. As for whether there were other hidden secrets, he didn't know yet.
"Hmm?" Obito tucked the paper filled with writing into his Kamui dimension and asked, "Who is it?"
"Uchiha Cheping, reporting on the Clan Head's orders!" Uchiha Cheping shouted from outside the door.
"Understood. Your first task: find a large house, one with a courtyard. Renting or buying is fine," Obito commanded.
"Yes!" Cheping replied.
"Wait, find out where Tsunade lives. I want to live next door to her. If that's not possible, find the closest place to her."
"Yes!"
Now that is a real ninja. A combat machine that completes missions, Obito thought to himself.
So, what should the first book be?
Back on Earth, he had been a bookworm for over a decade. In high school, he and his classmates would compete to see who read more, measuring it in terabytes! When they met in the morning, they'd greet each other with, "How many terabytes did you read yesterday?"
He also discovered that after consuming the Three-Turn Golden Elixir, his brain seemed to have become sharper—not just a physical boost, but an all-around enhancement!
Novels and movies he had seen in the past could now be recalled in great detail. For a novel of several million words, remembering 80% was more than enough for him to copy it!
Jiraiya's Icha Icha Paradise seemed to be very popular in the Naruto World, and it didn't involve politics, which made it a perfect fit. However, he only knew the title; he had never actually read the content!
He had seen a few clips in the anime; it was, in short, a rather indecent novel. Obito recalled the many indecent books he had read, but the only one that could be called a classic was that one!
Jin Ping Mei, a strange and legendary book, had even been adapted into multiple films. The only issue was that the ancient setting wouldn't be easy to change, as Obito had absolutely no knowledge of that era! The original Obito's brain was half Rin, and the other half was split between wanting to be Hokage and helping old ladies cross the street...
"Boss! Do you have any history books?" Obito arrived at the largest bookstore in Konoha. He decided to look at some history books first, then find a setting to adapt Jin Ping Mei into.
"We do! Head inside, turn left, they're right on the shelf. You've come to the right place, kid; our bookstore has the most complete and up-to-date collection!" the owner said.
"Not many young people read history books these days. As soon as you walked in, I saw the glow of knowledge on you."
"Right, thanks, boss!" How long has it been since you made a sale that you're shamelessly buttering up a kid like this?
Chronicles of the Land of Fire, Rise and Fall of the Land of Fire, Secret History of the Land of Fire Court, Romance of the Land of Fire... Obito browsed the shelves, pulled down a few thick volumes to flip through, and finally walked to the counter with a dozen books. "Boss, I'll take these. How much?"
"Heh heh, truly a scholar. Let me calculate that for you." The owner took the books with a beaming smile and tallied them up one by one.
"Thirteen books in total, 814 ryo. Let's just call it 800," the owner said.
"Boss, do you buy these books yourself before selling them?" Obito asked, playing the part of a curious child.
"Of course! This is my entire livelihood!" the owner said with a proud expression.
"Then, what if someone gave you books for free to sell, and you earned a portion of the profit for every copy sold? Would you be interested?" he continued.
"Haha! That would be great! But where in the world would you find such a fool? If I couldn't sell a single copy, wouldn't he lose everything?" the owner laughed.
You're the fool!! Obito cursed internally. It seemed this sales model didn't exist in the Naruto World yet. Well, he would be the one to pioneer it!
Obito was very confident in the sales of a pirated Jin Ping Mei. Even if it failed, it didn't matter; he'd treat it as a trial run. As for the bookstores trying any funny business if it became a hit, Obito could only pray they wouldn't try it. The Uchiha Police Force wasn't just for show!
