Background
The Uchiha were among Konoha's founding clans, linked to Uchiha Madara and the village's creation alongside the First Hokage. After Madara's departure, the clan lost much of its political standing; under later Hokage administrations, it faced surveillance, prejudice, and containment by Konoha's leadership. Many talented clan members were directed into the Konoha Police Force rather than the regular army. 12 59
When Uchiha Obito emerged as an exceptionally powerful child, he exploited the clan's fraught relationship with Konoha to secure funding and influence. He warned Fugaku that a coup would destroy both the clan and the village, then used Madara's name and his Mangekyō Sharingan to negotiate a 300 million ryo investment and a direct liaison with the Police Force. 2 3 4
Danzo's attempt to assassinate Obito became a turning point. Obito retaliated publicly against Root with Susanoo, framing the incident as persecution of the Uchiha. His display of power made him the clan's central symbol and shifted much of its loyalty away from Fugaku's formal leadership. 13 14 16

Clan Traits and Military Capability
Sharingan
The Sharingan is the Uchiha clan's defining bloodline ability. Madara describes it as one of the strongest powers in the shinobi world and claims that Uchiha become stronger through pain. 10
- An Uchiha child awakening the Three Tomoe Sharingan at five or six is regarded as an extraordinary genius. 2
- Obito's early Mangekyō Sharingan and Complete Body Susanoo restored the clan's confidence in its own potential. 3 14
- The clan's frontline force was composed of Sharingan users; Obito regarded even one-tomoe users as elite combatants when organized into squads. 61
Fire Release and Industrial Support
The Uchiha are noted for Fire Release aptitude and maintained substantial wartime industry under Obito's direction. 47 46
- Operated weapon-processing plants and Explosive Tag factories at maximum capacity during the Third Shinobi World War. 46
- Supplied Minato Namikaze with one million Explosive Tags before deploying to the Land of Grass front. 60
- Expanded newspapers, factories, and other businesses into the Lands of Rain and Grass. 64
Elite Guerrilla Warfare
Against Iwagakure's superior numbers, Obito reorganized the clan into mobile squads that attacked, withdrew, harassed enemy camps, and exploited Sharingan-assisted teamwork. 61
- The strategy reversed the frontline balance and pushed Uchiha operations toward the Land of Earth's border. 61 64
- Shisui's assassination of the lord of Hozuki Castle was used to intimidate the daimyō of the Land of Grass. 61
- The campaign was intended not only to defeat Iwagakure, but also to build an elite force personally loyal to Obito and secure influence over the Land of Grass. 61
Third Shinobi World War
Konoha's leadership asked the Uchiha to reinforce the war effort when its fronts were under severe pressure. Fugaku deferred the decision to Obito, who committed the clan to fight Iwagakure alone in exchange for independent command, supplies allocated for 3,000 personnel, and 200 medical shinobi led by Tsunade. 59
At mobilization, the clan assembled 637 chūnin and nine jōnin, excluding members away on missions. Obito rallied them by presenting the war as both Konoha's defense and the Uchiha's chance to reclaim its glory. 60
- 507 Uchiha departed for the Land of Grass with nearly 1,000 total personnel, including logistics and Tsunade's medical corps. 60
- Fugaku, 137 chūnin, and two jōnin remained behind to guard the clan compound. 60
- The deployment transformed public perception in the Land of Fire, making the Uchiha widely regarded as loyal and patriotic rather than subversive. 59
New Hidden Village Era
Following the war, Uchiha influence expanded beyond Konoha. Civilians from the clan moved into the Lands of Rain and Grass, where Uchiha-backed publishing, factories, and other industries rapidly took root. 64
Obito later led New Hidden Village as it extended protection over the Land of Rivers and formed an alliance with the Lands of Rain and Grass. The clan's military strength and commercial reach became central to this expanding political bloc. 70
Although the Uchiha clan district remained in Konoha, many members resided in New Hidden Village by the time of Sasuke's birth. 98
