Trouble Within the Walls

After chatting for a while, the announcement said boarding time was approaching. Liu Chang'an and Qin Yanan left the business lounge. The enormous station was desolate and empty; it felt as though even slightly heavy footsteps would echo everywhere.

There were still more staff keeping the station running than passengers. Fewer than ten people were boarding Liu Chang'an and Qin Yanan's train. After they went down to the platform, the business-class carriage for this service was at the front of the train. Liu Chang'an looked at the attendant standing inside the door, smiling beneath her silk scarf, then turned to glance toward the other end of the platform. A few slivers of sunlight broke through the sky, yet it somehow felt even colder. The heavy snow that had blanketed everything two days ago had mostly vanished in just one morning.

The two sat down, and the attendant brought them hot orange juice and snacks. Liu Chang'an opened the snack box and ate the chocolate inside, then looked out the window. High-speed rail was certainly convenient, but being shut in an enclosed space for so long was not as relaxing as traveling on foot.

Liu Chang'an narrowed his eyes. He was not sleepy; although he had slept only three or four hours the night before, it did not affect his energy in the slightest. He simply felt that sleeping made it easier to pass the time.

"I didn't sleep well last night. I'm a little sleepy now," Qin Yanan said to Liu Chang'an beside her.

"Let's sleep together." Liu Chang'an closed his eyes. They were the only two people in the carriage, and the attendant would naturally come remind them when they arrived, so there was no need to worry about missing their stop... Liu Chang'an recalled the old green trains
