Mount Myōboku Zoo
Time slipped away.
Nearly several decades had passed since that earth-shattering war.
In these decades, the world had undergone many changes.
The most eye-catching of these was that Sage Manji had become the orthodox and mainstream faith of the world!
There was no other reason; before that great war, the commoners who survived had only managed to evacuate because they listened to the divine oracle of Sage Manji.
What happened afterward only further solidified the faith of ordinary mortals in Sage Manji!
Those villagers who heeded the Manji oracle escaped the aftermath of that battle.
Manji Temple grew larger and more numerous, spreading across the entire world!
Coupled with the disappearance of the God Tree faith and the Goddess Kaguya, the faith in Manji naturally became the mainstream of the world.
A Manji Religion even emerged.
Of course, Hagoromo also deserved much of the credit.
Over these years, Hagoromo frequently displayed divine power abroad and spread a faith of kindness. As a disciple of Manji, Hagoromo also referred to himself as the direct disciple of Sage Manji.
This further fueled the faith in Manji.
When an old faith dies, it signifies the emergence of a new one.
The god Kaguya vanished, and Manji took her place.
"You stinking fox! You dare mock my sand as ugly? I'll flatten you!"
"Don't think that having more tails means you're the strongest. Even though I'm the One-Tail, I don't fear you!!!"
Shukaku, the One-Tail, had sand erupting all over his body, forming a giant fist of sand over ten meters high that smashed toward the head of Kurama, the Nine-Tails.
"Hmph, it's the truth! Look at that sand of yours, it's as coarse as the calloused skin on Gamamaru's feet."
"Nothing like me, the Nine-Tails, fluffy and soft—clearly top-tier fur!"
With that, Kurama nimbly dodged to the side.
"You're courting death!"
"I'll let you witness what the power of Lord Shukaku is all about!"
Enraged, Shukaku's Sand Style went berserk. Several sand walls instantly rose from the ground, surrounding Kurama, with sharp spikes bristling from the walls!
Kurama scoffed in disdain, his chakra surging as he shattered the sand with a single claw: "Is that all you've got? Watch me blast your pathetic sand into dust!"
"Stop fighting, stop fighting! Lord Manji will get angry!"
Gyūki, the Eight-Tails, rushed over, swinging his octopus tentacles to pull the two apart, but he ended up getting scraped by Shukaku's sand spikes, howling in pain.
"Ouch! Don't drag me into your fight!"
The Eight-Tails quickly rolled to the side.
Matatabi, the Two-Tails, crouched on a nearby tree, flicking her flaming tails while watching the spectacle, occasionally offering a critique: "Shukaku's Sand Style has slowed down again, and Kurama's claws are too sluggish. Boring."
Son Gokū, the Four-Tails, held a wine gourd, shaking his head as he drank: "We're all Tailed Beasts; instead of wasting effort like this, why not have a couple of drinks and talk about life?"
Kokuō, the Five-Tails, Saiken, the Six-Tails, Chōmei, the Seven-Tails, and Isobu, the Three-Tails, gathered in a circle as if watching a grand play. Isobu even clapped his claws from time to time, splashing water everywhere.
Shukaku and Kurama had started fighting, but the outcome was certain: Shukaku was no match for Kurama.
"Kurama, you're done for! I'm going to tell Teacher Manji!"
With that, Shukaku took off running toward Manji's room!
"Shukaku! You're a sore loser!"
Hearing this, the Nine-Tails' expression changed, and he hurriedly tried to intercept Shukaku.
"Hehe, know fear now?"
Shukaku mocked Kurama with a grin and quickly reached the door of Manji's room.
Just as the two were still hurting each other, Gamamaru walked out from Manji's room.
"All of you, stop!"
In an instant, the scene fell silent.
Gamamaru scanned the Tailed Beasts, then pointed at the room behind him where Manji was, speaking fiercely:
"The big brother of Mount Myōboku is taking a nap inside. Which one of you Tailed Beasts isn't afraid of death? Step forward if you dare!?"
As soon as these words were spoken, the Tailed Beasts instantly behaved.
Toward Manji, the Tailed Beasts felt both respect and fear.
They thought they were strong, but in the hands of Manji, they were no different from infants.
Suddenly, the door opened.
"Who awakens first from the great dream? My life, I know myself..."
Having just woken up, Manji walked slowly out of the room, dressed in green robes.
Manji raised his eyes and saw the nine Tailed Beasts.
His heart skipped a beat.
For the past few years, he had been teaching these Tailed Beasts, giving them names just as in the original story, and had become their teacher.
"Sigh, Mount Myōboku is practically becoming a zoo; it has every kind of creature..."
Manji swept his gaze over the nine Tailed Beasts.
Raccoon dog, Nine-Tails, octopus, turtle, insect, gorilla... Good grief, he could open a Mount Myōboku zoo.
"Teacher Manji!"
Seeing Manji appear, Nine-Tails and Shukaku shouted in unison, then immediately began to complain about each other.
"Teacher Manji, it was this stinky fox who provoked me first! It said my sand was ugly and called me a country bumpkin covered in sand!"
Shukaku spoke first, his voice full of grievance.
"Nonsense! I did no such thing!" Kurama immediately retorted: "I was just stating the truth; your sand is coarse to begin with! And you were the one who started it by using Sand Release to smash me!"
"That was self-defense!"
"You mocked me, so of course I had to teach you a lesson!"
Shukaku stiffened his neck.
"You're clearly just narrow-minded!"
Kurama was not to be outdone: "I just said one honest thing, and you blew your top, acting like a flammable, explosive sandbag!"
"You're the one! Your tail looks like a mop, and you have the nerve to talk about me!"
"You lump of sand, how dare you talk about my tail?"
The two began to bicker again, spittle flying everywhere, while the surrounding Tailed Beasts quickly retreated, fearing they would be caught in the crossfire.
Manji felt a headache coming on, his expression difficult to maintain.
It was only because Manji had lived so long and his heart had become very calm that he didn't get angry.
Did Nine-Tails and Shukaku have some kind of reaction? They were like this in the original story, and they were still like this now.
Gamamaru sidled up to Manji, squatting on the ground to crack melon seeds: "Master, look at these two. Decades have passed and they're still the same, bickering the moment they meet like two children who haven't grown up."
Manji rubbed his temples helplessly and looked at the two of them: "You two, tell me, what exactly is going on?"
Shukaku hung his head in grievance: "Lord Manji, I was planning to organize my sand today into a nice shape, but Kurama walked by and mocked my sand for being ugly. I couldn't take it, so I argued with it, and then it provoked me, which is why I attacked."
"I didn't provoke you!"
"I just casually said 'the sand really isn't much,' and it immediately smashed me with Sand Release. I couldn't just stand there and let it hit me, could I?"
Kurama retorted.
"Your tone was mocking me!"
"I wasn't!"
"You were!"
"I wasn't!"
The two began to argue again, and Manji's brows furrowed tighter and tighter as he looked at the sizes of these Tailed Beasts.
"Calculating the time, is it time to send them out into the world?"
Manji did some mental math and felt that the time was about right.
