Background / History

Er Ni grew up in Emperor Soul Village alongside Lin Qing and her older brother, Er Gouzi. When Lin Qing told her that he intended to leave the village and become a soul master, she tried to conceal her sadness but ultimately cried over their coming separation. Er Gouzi initially believed Lin Qing had mistreated her and angrily confronted him. 4

In a parallel timeline, Emperor Soul Village was raided by bandits, and Er Ni took her own life rather than submit to their leader. Learning of this fate, Lin Qing resolved to bring her away from the village and eliminate the bandit threat. 7 9 After returning to the village two years later, Lin Qing reunited with Er Ni; her feelings for him had not changed. 22

Er Ni agreed to accompany Lin Qing to Suotuo City and assist with managing his shop despite her lack of formal education. She also secretly kept a piece of Gold of Life that Er Gouzi had found, then gave it to Lin Qing. 23
