Background
Leon was originally an ordinary person from Earth. Following an event he calls “Great Luck Iaido,” he awoke as an infant in another world and was raised for eight years by a lioness in the forest. Lord Luther later adopted him, brought him into Caliban society, and educated him in literature and martial arts. 1
As he grew, Leon developed an abnormal physique, reaching over three meters in height by the time he sought the Sword of Selection. Comparing his lion-associated upbringing, immense body, and world of knights to his prior knowledge, he concluded that he was Lion El'Jonson, the Emperor’s eldest son. He initially believed he had entered the Warhammer universe, then recognized the world as Type-Moon after encountering Arthur—actually Artoria—and Merlin. 1 3
Leon intended to unify the planet before the arrival of the “golden giant” he associated with the Emperor. He treated the Sword of Selection as the first practical step toward gaining legitimate authority, then drew it by force, shattering its stone pedestal in the process. 1 2
Appearance
Leon is a towering, lion-faced man whose size makes ordinary carriages and weapons inadequate for him. At over three meters tall, he is described as taller than a house and expected to grow further. 1
- Lion-like facial features. 1
- Over three meters tall during his early rise to power. 1
- Broad, massive build; two to three times the size of an average person. 1
- Initially wore custom white plate armor with blue patterns, gold ornaments, and a blue cloak. 1
- Later fought in dark crimson armor while wielding black and white lances. 164
Personality
Leon possesses overwhelming self-confidence rooted in his belief that he is a Primarch and “living demigod.” He considers rulership and conquest natural extensions of his identity, and he is intensely concerned with appearing invincible before subjects and rivals. 1 17
As a ruler, Leon is decisive, pragmatic, and often ruthless. He relies on military force to impose reforms, executes enemies and dissidents to secure control, and is willing to break agreements when he considers them inconvenient. 7 32 34
He is also an adaptive strategist. During Morgan’s rebellion, Leon deliberately restrained his anger, prioritized the Roman threat, and assessed which losses could be rebuilt. He recognizes the importance of preparation, logistics, and capable subordinates, even while repeatedly choosing to personally resolve decisive crises. 10 39 150
Battle strongly appeals to Leon. He enjoys life-threatening combat and the sensation of being surrounded by killing intent, though his eagerness to test himself can become reckless—such as entering ORT’s body without fully understanding the danger. 27 132 252
Abilities & Skills
Primarch Physiology
Leon possesses strength, speed, endurance, and durability far beyond ordinary humans or knights without relying on magecraft, divine blessings, or magical energy. Merlin considers this physically irrational by the standards of the world. 5
- Sliced off a mountaintop with a sword strike before claiming the throne. 2
- Released a thousand-meter sword slash that devastated Camelot’s opposing army and killed more than three hundred soldiers. 6 7
- Routed the King of Orkney’s twenty-thousand-man army after personally leading seven cavalry charges and slaying over a thousand enemies. 11
- Withstood Lancelot’s attacks with only temporary marks on his skin. 17
- Can fight through armies alone, killing giants, magical beasts, fairies, and soldiers in single exchanges. 43 248
- His usual body lacks magic circuits and cannot naturally produce or release mana. 11
Unobservable Existence
Merlin’s highest-grade Clairvoyance cannot perceive Leon’s existence, and Scathach’s Wisdom of the Abyss likewise cannot observe his past or future. 3 27
- Prophetic and clairvoyant observation fail to locate him as an existence in the world. 3 5
- He can still be seen normally when physically present. 30
- Merlin interprets this anomaly as evidence that Leon is an outsider from beyond the world. 5
Martial Arts and Combat Learning
Leon began with overwhelming physical ability but comparatively crude one-on-one technique. After meeting Lancelot and training under Scathach, he rapidly refined his skills. 17 27 29
- Possesses photographic memory and learns martial techniques after observing them. 1 27
- Initially struggled to match Lancelot’s refined swordsmanship despite superior strength. 17
- Incorporated Lancelot’s techniques and progressed enough within half a year to exchange blows evenly with Scathach. 27
- Received formal instruction from Scathach after their duel. 29
- Mordred identifies Leon’s martial skill as too formidable for ordinary methods to threaten. 348
Rune Script and Magical Energy Manipulation
Under Scathach’s instruction, Leon learned basic Rune Script and how to draw on magical energy from the Greater Source. 29 45
- Uses rune carving to manipulate ambient magical energy rather than generating mana himself. 45
- Charges the Holy Sword of the Stars through external magical energy. 45
- Can release the Holy Sword’s beam attack, the Roar of the Planet. 45
- His rune knowledge remains limited compared with Scathach’s broader mastery. 45
Sovereignty-Based Seizure
In his later Servant incarnation, Leon can seize Noble Phantasms, a capability Gilgamesh considers exceptionally troublesome. 254
- Gilgamesh must avoid close combat and use ranged attacks because Leon can take his Noble Phantasms. 254
- Leon’s Servant body is weaker than his true body and cannot use his usual aerial movement capabilities. 243
- His hidden Thunder Beast Battle Form is known to Mordred, though its full capabilities remain unspecified. 348
Leadership and Statecraft
Leon combines direct military leadership with centralized political reform. 10 32
- Reorganized his initial followers into combat and logistics forces, assigning Luther to supply management and Joe to his personal guard. 5
- Implemented a merit-based military system that disregarded social status in favor of achievement. 10
- Reformed Britain’s land, title, military, political, and economic structures after Mordred’s birth. 32
- Took control of Spirit Tomb Albion, dividing it into four operational levels. 97
- Planned for succession by entrusting Mordred with the regency and later naming Arthur as his successor. 150 194
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Sword of Selection — The sword Leon drew to establish his claim to Britain’s throne. It later snapped in battle; Leon entrusted its fragments to Kay for eventual reforging. 1 7
- Excalibur — A holy sword presented by Merlin at Leon’s coronation, which Leon understood as recognition from the planet’s Counter Forces. 19
- Holy Sword of the Stars — Leon’s principal magical sword; charged through Rune Script to fire the Roar of the Planet. 27 45
- Rhongomyniad / Holy Spear — A modified Storm Anchor supplied by Merlin. Its activation mechanism has four charges and requires magical energy to recharge after depletion. 11
- Fae-blessed silver bracelet — A Mystic Code created by Morgan that brings Leon good fortune and can help him evade a fated death. 20 29
- Black Spear / black lance — One of Leon’s major later armaments; he wielded it alongside a white lance during the assault on Jiankang. 85 164
- Neltharion — Leon’s black dragon mount and a strategic asset of the empire. 39 194
Relationships
- Luther — Foster father, early political supporter, logistics commander, and later Duke. He raised Leon after removing him from the forest and helped gather the first supporters for his kingship. 1 5 32
- Joe — Sworn brother and Luther’s biological son. He studied and trained alongside Leon from childhood, later commanding Leon’s personal guard. 1 5
- Morgan — Wife and mother of Mordred. Their relationship combines affection, political ambition, distrust, and eventual conflict after Morgan rebels against Leon’s rule. 20 22 39
- Mordred — Leon’s child and heir, created through Morgan’s alchemy. Leon appointed him regent during the Japanese expedition, but Mordred later ambushed him. 22 150 174
- Merlin — Court mage, adviser, weapon modifier, and frequent critic of Leon’s conduct. Merlin distrusts Leon’s extreme nature but repeatedly assists and protects him. 3 11 85
- Lancelot — The Knight of the Lake and Leon’s subordinate. Leon first defeated him through superior physical power, then recruited him and learned from his swordsmanship. 17 24 27
- Scathach — Martial rival turned teacher. She trained Leon in combat principles and Rune Script after recognizing his potential. 27 29
- Jupiter — AI governing the Empire and one of Leon’s most trusted advisers. Leon seeks Jupiter’s counsel and entrusts him with guiding Mordred during the regency. 77 122 150
- Arthur / Artoria — Initially encountered as Kay’s disguised younger sibling and a potential rival for Britain’s throne. Leon later names Arthur as his successor. 2 194
- Neltharion — Black dragon mount. Leon later asks Neltharion to assist Arthur after the succession. 39 194
Story Role / Major Arcs
Claiming Britain
Leon draws the Sword of Selection, gains the allegiance of roughly six hundred followers, defeats Camelot’s forces, and enters the capital as its new ruler. He is formally crowned King of Britain after the “Three Refusals and Three Yieldings” ceremony. 1 2 6 7 19
Northern Campaign and British Reforms
Leon crushes the King of Orkney, pacifies the north, defeats Vortigern, and returns to Camelot with territory, soldiers, wealth, and captives. After Mordred’s birth, he imposes extensive reforms to centralize Britain and establish a merit-based state. 11 12 13 32
Continental Expansion and Morgan’s Rebellion
After conquering Londinium and subjugating its magi, Leon expands toward the continent. Morgan later destroys Britain’s industry using replicated Holy Spear magecraft and takes control of the island while Leon chooses to confront Rome first. 34 38 39
War Against Rome
Leon annihilates Roman forces, withstands magical barrages, and kills Emperor Lucius with his Holy Sword. Lucius’s death fractures the Roman army and opens the way for Leon’s broader continental rule. 43 44
Spirit Tomb Albion and the Mage's Association
Leon takes control of Spirit Tomb Albion, establishes the Mage’s Association in its upper layer, and turns the tomb into a multi-level domain containing magical beasts, artifacts, and the ancient Dragon Heart. 95 97
Cosmic Threats and Imperial Succession
Leon joins Merlin and Second Law on an expedition against an ultimate entity beyond the world, later investigates ORT from inside its body, and prepares to contact Chaos. During later campaigns, he assigns Mordred as regent before eventually declaring Arthur his successor. 122 132 136 150 194
Servant Battles and Historical Anomalies
While operating in a Servant body, Leon confronts Heroic Spirits including Iskandar, Gilgamesh, and Solomon. He defeats Iskandar despite exhaustion, becomes known as the Lion King of White Chalk City, and identifies Hassan-i Sabbah as an anachronistic Servant. 243 281 297 298
Notable Quotes
“I am now the King of Britain. Those who wish to follow me shall win glory on the battlefield, earn titles and wealth, and pass them down to their descendants for generations to come.” 2
“Six hundred it is. As long as they follow behind me, there will be no enemy before us.” 2
“No matter, for now, I alone am enough!” 39
Trivia
