Background

Qin Fang named the dog Xile, meaning “joy and delight,” because it brought vitality to his daily life and readily attached itself to him 97. It initially appeared to be an ordinary yellow farm dog, but its development changed after Qin Fang began feeding it Giant Bee meat and later allowed it to consume mysterious liquid from Old Ox Ridge 110 115.

Its growth became increasingly extreme. By the time Qin Fang was confronting Chen Shanhe, Xile had become large and swift enough to serve as a mount, allowing Qin Fang to escape a stronger pursuer 135 139. Qin Fang later left Xile behind at Old Ox Ridge while he traveled to Lanyang, judging that its instinct for avoiding danger made the ridge safer than bringing such a conspicuous creature to the prefectural city 143 144.

During Qin Fang's absence, Xile found and consumed all eighteen lotus seeds from a golden Treasure Plant in a hidden valley. This opportunity transformed it into a colossal golden-furred exotic beast with power resembling a Leaf Technique 190. Qin Fang eventually brought Xile to the Heavenly Dipper Boundless Sect, where Yue Guiyuan confirmed that it had reached the Transcendence level and allowed it to remain under Qin Fang's supervision 195 196.

While accompanying Qin Fang outside the sect, Xile burned its blood to produce an extraordinary burst of speed during a deadly escape. Although this protected them, the exertion damaged its foundation, left it listless, and caused much of its golden fur to fall out 202. Yue Guiyuan temporarily stabilized it with True Essence, after which the Hundred Herbs Courtyard provided further treatment. Disciples regularly visit to feed, pet, and sometimes ride it with its consent, while Wen Suxin has become one of its closest caretakers after Qin Fang 205 225 247. When Qin Fang returned to Origin Return Valley after entering the Supernatural Realm, he found Xile lying listlessly in the square before the hall. It immediately recognized his arrival by scent and sprang up in delight. Qin Fang briefly kept it company before continuing his sect business 299.

It is obedient despite its playful nature. Xile follows direct commands to guard a residence, remain behind, avoid people, and stop following Qin Fang 110 144. It also forms attachments to people Qin Fang trusts, particularly Xiao Jiu, who often played with and rode it during their time in hiding 113 130 131.

Xile is gentle toward people accepted by Qin Fang and has become notably tolerant of Origin Return Valley's disciples, who feed and ride it with its consent 198 225. However, it is also fiercely devoted in danger, burning its blood to carry Qin Fang away from a life-threatening situation despite the damage this inflicted upon itself 202.
