Power Progression

Background / History

Broly arrived on Earth alongside his father, Paragus, after drifting through space for months. He wore only a green animal hide and a red-lit metal control collar; despite his monstrous physique and potential, he was initially expressionless and innocent rather than openly hostile 206.

His normal nature is gentle and reluctant to harm others. When Paragus ordered him to kill, Broly objected that their target had not attacked them. Paragus answered by electrocuting him through the collar, conditioning Broly into obedience and suppressing his rationality beneath violent instinct 210.

During the conflict with Vegeta, Broly's power surged in response to punishment and combat. Vegeta's superior technique initially suppressed him, but each attack fed Broly's growth until he could counter through instinct alone 213. After Paragus was swallowed by Majin Buu, Broly's remaining sanity collapsed and he awakened as a Legendary Super Saiyan 240.

Sun Wuxiu defeated Broly without killing him and chose to take responsibility for his future. After Broly awoke, frightened and defensive in an unfamiliar environment, Sun Wuxiu offered him food, safety, and training to master his power 252 253. Broly accepted the prospect of living freely on Earth and began systematic training under Sun Wuxiu 265.

Sun Wuxiu's training was intended not merely to make Broly stronger, but to ensure that he could live without becoming an uncontrollable danger to himself or others. During this process, Broly learned to resist murderous impulses, restrain himself mid-attack, and apply learned martial arts instead of relying entirely on instinct 265 266 268.

Zamasu later used Super Shenron to exchange bodies with the universe's strongest Saiyan, taking possession of Broly's body and creating the hostile Dark Broly identity 434. Broly is nonetheless again independently present in later conflicts, retaining his calm disposition and interest in facing formidable opponents 465.

For the Tournament of Power, Sun Wuxiu assigns Broly to handle Universe 6's contestants. Broly accepts the task without hesitation, trusting his mentor's judgment and entering the tournament with the intent to find a worthwhile opponent 539 544.

Appearance

Broly is an exceptionally tall, burly Saiyan with a physique compared to a prehistoric beast and a body seemingly cast from steel 206.

Personality

In his clear-headed state, Broly is quiet, pure-hearted, obedient, and uncomfortable with needless violence. He speaks little, but his refusal to kill an unprovoked target shows an innate moral restraint that survived decades of isolation and Paragus's abuse 210.

Broly is naturally battle-oriented and learns quickly through direct experience. Before training, his mind was simple and easily overwhelmed by rage; in combat, escalating emotion stripped away his reason and reduced him to a destructive beast 213 255. Under Sun Wuxiu's guidance, he develops rationality, ki awareness, martial arts discipline, and the ability to remain sane while transformed 258 331 332.

Though generally reticent, Broly has developed a straightforward enthusiasm for challenging strong opponents. He expresses interest in unknown powerful fighters and approaches the Tournament of Power without fear 465 504 506.

In the Tournament of Power, Broly remains composed even while facing a united Universe 6 force. He is confident in his strength and blunt in his assessments, but he becomes visibly interested upon recognizing Kale as another bearer of the Legendary Super Saiyan bloodline and when Kefla becomes strong enough to challenge him 544 555 570.

Broly is a once-in-a-thousand-years mutant Saiyan whose innate combat power and growth potential vastly exceed those of ordinary Saiyans 255.

Paragus's Revenge and Majin Buu Conflict

Paragus brings Broly to Earth to attack Vegeta. His control collar forces Broly into berserk combat, where his growth rapidly overwhelms Vegeta's technical advantage 210 213. Broly subsequently fights Majin Buu and awakens as a Legendary Super Saiyan after witnessing Paragus's death 239 240.

Recruitment and Training

After Sun Wuxiu incapacitates him, Broly is invited to join the group and offered training rather than execution 245 253. He learns ki sensing and martial fundamentals, then undergoes harsh control training in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber with Sun Wuxiu and Piccolo 258 265 268.

Tournament Battle on Desolate Planet 77

A trained Broly faces GT Vegeta and reveals that he can now enter Legendary Super Saiyan directly without losing his sanity 330 331. He overwhelms a group of powerful fighters, adapts to their coordinated tactics, and continues becoming stronger after taking damage 332 334 336 337. Vegito eventually defeats him with Final Kamehameha 346.

Battle with Beerus

Broly accepts Beerus's challenge without hesitation and immediately uses Full Power Legendary Super Saiyan 396 397. Though he lands a notable punch and later mutates under Destruction Energy, Beerus ultimately overwhelms and knocks him unconscious 397 400 401. Following the battle, Broly concludes that Beerus's true limits are impossible for him to gauge 404.

Dark Broly Incident

In a future conflict, Zamasu occupies Broly's body after wishing to exchange bodies with the strongest Saiyan. This “Dark Broly” defeats and injures several fighters, including Gohan, while wielding Broly's physical potential for Zamasu's own goals 430 434. Sun Wuxiu subsequently evades every attack from the possessed body and severely injures Dark Broly in return 436.

Tournament of Power Preparation

When the Tournament of Power is announced, Broly is among the fighters considering the coming inter-universal conflict. Rather than showing fear, he looks forward to encountering an opponent strong enough to interest him 504 506.

Tournament of Power: Universe 6 Campaign

Sun Wuxiu orders Broly to prevent Universe 6's representatives from leaving their battlefield and assigns their entire force to him. Broly immediately incapacitates Frost, casually defeats Caulifla, and withstands the combined assault of Cabba, the Universe 6 Namekians, Magetta, and other fighters 539 544 545.

Using Human-Ape Form, Broly continues to dominate Universe 6 and regards Hit as the only opponent with strength worth noting. He recognizes Kale's transformation as the same Legendary Super Saiyan bloodline as his own, but judges that her weak foundation and inability to remain rational limit her prospects in the tournament 554 558 569.

After Kale fuses with Caulifla into Kefla, Broly responds to her heightened power by driving his Human-Ape Form to its limit. When Kefla persists, Broly transforms into Legendary Super Saiyan with complete composure, crushes her energy discs barehanded, and defeats her overwhelmingly before throwing her from the arena 571 573 574 575. Kefla's elimination removes Universe 6's final contestant and results in the erasure of that universe 575.
