Background / History

Broly arrived on Earth alongside his father, Paragus, after drifting through space for months. He wore only a green animal hide and a red-lit metal control collar; despite his monstrous physique and potential, he was initially expressionless and innocent rather than openly hostile 206.

His normal nature is gentle and reluctant to harm others. When Paragus ordered him to kill, Broly objected that their target had not attacked them. Paragus answered by electrocuting him through the collar, conditioning Broly into obedience and suppressing his rationality beneath violent instinct 210.

During the conflict with Vegeta, Broly's power surged in response to punishment and combat. Vegeta's superior technique initially suppressed him, but each attack fed Broly's growth until he could counter through instinct alone 213. After Paragus was swallowed by Majin Buu, Broly's remaining sanity collapsed and he awakened as a Legendary Super Saiyan 240.

Sun Wuxiu defeated Broly without killing him and chose to take responsibility for his future. After Broly awoke, frightened and defensive in an unfamiliar environment, Sun Wuxiu offered him food, safety, and training to master his power 252 253. Broly accepted the prospect of living freely on Earth and began systematic training under Sun Wuxiu 265.

Sun Wuxiu's training was intended not merely to make Broly stronger, but to ensure that he could live without becoming an uncontrollable danger to himself or others. During this process, Broly learned to resist murderous impulses, restrain himself mid-attack, and apply learned martial arts instead of relying entirely on instinct 265 266 268.

Zamasu later used Super Shenron to exchange bodies with the universe's strongest Saiyan, taking possession of Broly's body and creating the hostile Dark Broly identity 434. Broly is nonetheless again independently present in later conflicts, retaining his calm disposition and interest in facing formidable opponents 465.

Before training, his mind was simple and easily overwhelmed by rage; in combat, escalating emotion stripped away his reason and reduced him to a destructive beast 213 255. Dark Broly Incident

In a future conflict, Zamasu occupies Broly's body after wishing to exchange bodies with the strongest Saiyan. This “Dark Broly” defeats and injures several fighters, including Gohan, while wielding Broly's physical potential for Zamasu's own goals 430 434. Sun Wuxiu subsequently evades every attack from the possessed body and severely injures Dark Broly in return 436.
