He raised his hand and flicked Vitelli sharply on the forehead with a crisp, resounding snap!
"Ow!" Vitelli clutched his forehead, glaring back in fury.
"Count yourself lucky, kid!"
Beerus snorted, his expression clearly saying, I'm doing you a favor.
"In these thousands of years, This Seat has never once taken the initiative to seek out an Apprentice God of Destruction! You, Vitelli! You are the first! This is your honor!"
He pointed at the divine attire on Vitelli's body. "This 'Apprentice God of Destruction' uniform is the symbol of your status! From now on, you are the Apprentice God of Destruction for our Universe 7!"
Vitelli: "...???"
He was completely stunned. What Apprentice God of Destruction? Who agreed to this?!
"Lord Beerus, aren't you afraid that Vitelli might try to fight you to the death later?"
Whis stood to the side, covering his mouth and asking with a playful smile.
"Afraid of him?" Beerus let out a disdainful scoff, his golden slit pupils looking down at Vitelli with the arrogance unique to a God of Destruction. "Does I, Beerus, need to fear his blade?!"
He stopped looking at the indignant Vitelli and shifted his focus to Bulma. "I heard you promise to treat Whis to a meal earlier? When does that start?"
Bulma looked at Vitelli—who had just been beaten into unconsciousness and was now fuming with rage after being forcibly stuffed into a "work uniform"—and then at the God of Destruction who was demanding food with such righteous confidence. She let out a deep sigh.
She truly couldn't fathom how this shameless personality of a God of Destruction was cultivated. You just beat my husband to a pulp, for heaven's sake!
However...
Bulma's gaze fell upon the divine outfit Vitelli was wearing—though strange, it carried an inexplicable air of majesty and mystery. Seeing him hopping mad yet utterly helpless, the heartache she felt was suddenly replaced by a strange sense of pride and the satisfaction of "my man has made something of himself."
Forget it...
Resigned to her fate, she pulled out her phone and dialed the manor's number:
"Hello? It's me. Prepare a banquet immediately! Yes, use the best ingredients for everything! Get the entire culinary team in position! Also..."
She paused, glancing at Vitelli, who was still locked in a staring contest with Beerus, and couldn't help but let a smile tug at the corner of her lips.
"Consider it... a celebration for Vitelli's, um, 'promotion'!"
She comforted herself internally: The wife of an Apprentice God of Destruction? It sounded a bit strange, but at least she was the wife of a "Kami-sama." Not a bad deal!
Bulma's husband is a god! If she told her friends about this, how much face would that give her!
Although, this god... he really looked like he wanted to pin his direct superior to the ground and beat him up.
Vitelli watched as Bulma began arranging the banquet, then looked at Beerus's smug "you hit the jackpot" expression and Whis's "I'm just here for the show" smile. In the end, he could only scratch his head in frustration.
He looked down and tugged at the uniform that symbolized his status as the Apprentice God of Destruction for Universe 7, sighing helplessly in his heart.
What kind of mess is this?!
Chapter 22: Beerus, the Dine-and-Dash God!
A banquet so lavish it could be called extravagant once again drew to a close in the dining hall of Brief Manor.
The mountain of empty plates and bowls piled on the table silently spoke to the intensity of the "battle" that had just taken place; the scene of carnage was no less severe than the clash between man and god that had occurred not long ago.
Beerus sprawled in a large, comfortable chair with zero regard for his image, his golden eyes squinting in satisfaction as his slender tail tapped against the seat, making soft thwack-thwack sounds.
Whis maintained his unique elegance, though his hand holding the teacup looked exceptionally languid, and a contented smile hung on his face.
"Mmm... the food on Earth truly never disappoints me."
Whis covered his mouth to let out a comfortable burp and spoke with a smile:
"Lord Beerus, Vitelli-san, it is time for us to return."
Upon hearing this, Vitelli immediately spoke up:
"Beerus, Whis, I think I need to stay on Earth for a couple more days."
He paused to explain:
"My Instant Transmission cannot lock onto Earth's energy signature directly from the God of Destruction Realm. I want to improve it, use the Dragon Ball on Earth to make a wish, and see if I can evolve this ability or set a coordinate between the two planets to make future travel easier."
But... his intention to stay by Bulma's side for a few more days was written all over his face.
Beerus waved his hand, wearing an expression that said, Is that all?
"There are wish-granting orbs on Earth? But what you're doing is completely unnecessary. When I have time later, I'll take you to the Supreme Kai Realm to find those Supreme Kais and have them teach you a more advanced version of Instant Transmission yourself. It'll be much more useful than what you have now."
When Vitelli heard this, an undisguised look of helplessness appeared on his face, and he retorted sharply:
"The idea is beautiful, but the reality is harsh. As far as I know, the current Supreme Kai..."
He stared pointedly at Beerus, preparing to watch the God of Destruction make a fool of himself.
"They probably don't even know who you are, a God of Destruction who has been asleep for decades, right?"
"Na... Nani?!"
Beerus sat bolt upright as if his tail had been stepped on, his golden slit pupils filled with shock and disbelief.
"They don't know me? How is that possible! I am a God of Destruction! How could those Supreme Kais not know who I am?!"
Vitelli couldn't be bothered to explain to him that the Supreme Kais had almost all gone extinct, or the messy business of the Old Supreme Kai being sealed away by Beerus himself.
He merely shrugged, giving a perfunctory reply: "How would I know the specifics? It's just some hearsay I accidentally overheard on another planet. They say the current Supreme Kai is a pretty young guy."
Beerus narrowed his eyes, staring at Vitelli for several seconds. Although he knew full well that this guy was likely just spouting nonsense to brush him off.
But... having just finished a grand feast meticulously prepared by the man's girlfriend, turning hostile immediately after wiping his mouth—such shameless behavior was something he, the God of Destruction Beerus...
Well, he did it occasionally! But today's meal had been so satisfying that he couldn't be bothered to hold it against him for now.
Still, Vitelli's words planted a seed of doubt in his mind.
After all, the Supreme Kai was an important deity whose life was linked to the God of Destruction. Although he had used special means to circumvent the risk of shared fate, the existence of the Supreme Kai was vital to the balance of the universe.
If, as this kid said, the current Supreme Kai was a greenhorn who didn't even know his theoretical partner deity, that certainly wouldn't be a good thing.
"Hmph, nonsense."
Beerus ultimately just snorted, pushing his suspicions aside for the moment.
"I'll naturally find out about this later. Regardless, your status as an Apprentice God of Destruction is set in stone; you can't run away from it."
Hearing that Vitelli was about to leave again, Bulma grew anxious. Her sapphire-like eyes quickly welled up with moisture, and she clung tightly to Vitelli's arm, looking at him with teary eyes:
"You just got back... and you're leaving again? How long will you be gone this time?"
Seeing Bulma like this, Vitelli's heart instantly softened.
He hesitated for a moment, then looked toward Whis and Beerus, pleading with them:
"Teacher Whis, Lord Beerus, could you take Bulma with us? She can bring plenty of delicious food, and her cooking... is really amazing! (She's very rich!)"
To increase his bargaining chips, Vitelli lied through his teeth without hesitation.
Both Whis and Beerus could tell Vitelli was being insincere, but neither of them cared.
Beerus had no objections to the request; the God of Destruction Realm was empty enough that one extra person didn't matter, as long as they brought more food.
However, he still pointed at Bulma:
"Take her? Kid, are you trying to get her killed? The environment of the God of Destruction Realm isn't something an ordinary human can withstand. For starters, the gravity there is at least several hundred times that of Earth, if not more! She would be crushed by her own weight the moment she arrived."
Vitelli suddenly realized this.
He had been so focused on being with Bulma that he had overlooked the most basic issue of environmental adaptation.
His own strength was formidable, so changes in gravity didn't affect him much, but Bulma was just an ordinary Earthling...
He immediately looked at Beerus for help, his eyes pleading for him to "think of a way."
Beerus awkwardly scratched his light purple cheek and looked away.
He was an expert at fighting and destruction, but when it came to problems requiring delicate handling and specialized knowledge, he was completely clueless—that fell under the purview of an Angel.
Watching Beerus in his rare state of helplessness, Whis covered his mouth and chuckled softly.
He waved his staff, and a gentle, mysterious stream of light instantly flew out, silently merging into Bulma's body.
"There you go, Miss Bulma."
Whis smiled and nodded.
"You no longer need to worry about the environment of the God of Destruction Realm. This power will protect you, automatically adapting to and neutralizing the effects of the abnormal environment, whether it be gravity, air pressure, or radiation. You can now live safely in the God of Destruction Realm just as you do on Earth."
Bulma immediately felt her body grow much lighter, and an indescribable sense of comfort enveloped her.
She jumped up in surprise, then happily wrapped her arms around Vitelli's neck and gave him a loud "smack" on the cheek.
"That's amazing! Vitelli! We can go together!"
But she suddenly remembered something, let go of Vitelli, and spoke quickly to Beerus and Whis:
"Please wait for me! Just a moment! I need to prepare some things! Daily necessities, a change of clothes, and my research equipment and computer..."
Beerus grew impatient.
"Hmph! Foolish woman, do you have any idea how rude it is to keep a powerful deity waiting? Whis, let's depart immediat—"
Before he could finish saying "depart," Bulma added as if she had just remembered:
"Oh! Right, the crate of special top-grade tuna I prepared just for you, Lord Beerus, I've had them get that ready too. There's plenty of it!"
Beerus's words instantly jammed, and what was already on the tip of his tongue took a sharp turn, his tone shifting entirely:
"Let's depart... cough, go... go get it! Waiting for you is perfectly fine! After all, tolerance and patience are the excellent qualities that a great deity should possess!"
He spoke with such righteous indignation, as if the impatient person from a moment ago hadn't been him at all.
Whis finally couldn't hold it in; he covered his mouth with his hand, his shoulders shaking violently.
Vitelli also hurriedly lowered his head to cover his mouth, but his shoulders heaved, and muffled laughter inevitably leaked out.
Beerus shot a look of disdain at the two behind him.
He crossed his arms, trying his best to maintain a dignified appearance, but his slightly twitching nostrils and the way his eyes subconsciously darted toward the kitchen completely betrayed him.
Bulma moved quickly, rushing back to the bedroom and storage room like a gust of wind.
Before long, she emerged dragging two large, bulging backpacks that looked heavy enough to be a significant burden.
Vitelli looked at the two massive bags and couldn't help but laugh: "Bulma, you really..."
"Better safe than sorry!"
Bulma said with a grin, handing a heavy backpack to Vitelli.
"Most of this is Hoi-Poi Capsule, containing my three labs, two houses, various tools, and some ingredients. There's also plenty of pre-made gourmet food prepared for you and Lord Beerus! It should last for quite a while!"
Vitelli smiled helplessly, dotingly resigned to his fate as he hoisted the heavy pack onto his back and gripped Bulma's hand tightly.
Whis finally managed to stifle his laughter and waved his staff. "Now, everyone, please get ready."
Vitelli held Bulma's hand with one hand and placed his other on Whis's shoulder.
Beerus also walked over and placed his hand on the other side of Whis's shoulder.
"Let's go, Whis," Beerus commanded.
Whis nodded, and the gem atop his staff glowed with a soft light, instantly enveloping the four of them.
Whoosh!
With a flash of light, the four vanished from the living room, leaving behind only a table full of mess and an empty house.
A few minutes after they departed, the crisp sound of a doorbell and a series of "knock-knock" sounds echoed at the entrance of Brief Manor.
"Hey! Bulma! Vitelli! I'm here to hang out!"
Son Goku stood outside the closed gate, wearing a slightly worn martial arts uniform, scratching his head in confusion.
"Is no one home?"
He waited for a moment and tilted his head to listen; the manor was deathly quiet.
Dr. Brief and his wife were not home today either, and after Vitelli and the others left, only a few patrol robots remained within the manor.
"That's strange, Vitelli definitely came back..."
Goku muttered, then simply performed a nimble flip, easily vaulting over the tall wall and landing on the manor's lawn.
