"Flame Fist!"
Lana seemed to be standing in a sea of flames. The scorching energy made everyone present feel the heat.
The move was somewhat like the compressed energy of the Kamehameha, but Lana used her hands and feet as vessels to concentrate all her energy. That made it easier to focus her fighting power, and the move was three times as powerful as her normal attacks.
"Little wolfie, if you have any last words, you'd better say them now. You won't get another chance!"
Lana's voice was sweet, but when Sun Yu and Ace heard it, they felt a chill run down their spines. Lana raised her fist, heat rippling off it, then pushed off lightly with her feet and shot forward. Poor Ace didn't even have time to react before a punch sent him flying.
Ace's enormous wolfish body tumbled through the air several times. He finally managed to steady himself, only to feel a faint warmth behind him.
Oh no! He turned his wolf's head in terror. Sure enough, Lana had already appeared behind him. With a whoosh, she drove a Flame Kick into Ace's stomach. The scorching burn hurt so much that tears nearly welled in his eyes. As he plummeted toward the ground, he made another grim discovery: Lana had already moved below him and was waiting in an attack stance, fists raised on either side.
"Awooo..."
One anguished howl after another rang out. Lana had beaten Ace nearly bloody. Sun Yu hurriedly covered Bulma's eyes. This gruesome scene was way too inappropriate for kids!
Sun Yu was beginning to wonder whether bringing Lana to Earth to train had been the right decision. At that moment, he even felt sorry for the wolf-man named Ace. If heaven looked kindly on Ace and he somehow survived today, he'd probably be traumatized for life.
Speaking of which, there were probably plenty of middle-school math teachers who'd ask: what was the area of this wolf-man's psychological shadow right now?
"Hey... Sis Lana, that's enough. If you keep beating him like this, he's going to die!"
Sun Yu shouted at Lana. It wasn't that he was especially softhearted. He was counting on keeping Ace alive so he could ask why the wolf-man was so strong. After all, anything that could still breathe after Lana's relentless beating couldn't be a normal creature—at the very least, it couldn't be from Earth.
"Kael, how about we have roasted wolf for dinner toda—"
Lana stopped halfway through. Her expression went blank, the flames around her vanished abruptly, and her raised hands suddenly dropped limp at her sides.
"Sis Lana?" Sun Yu was stunned by what he saw, but he seemed to realize what was happening. He asked Bulma, who was in his arms, "Bulma, look up at the sky for me. Is there a full moon?"
Bulma obediently nodded at Sun Yu's words, then tilted her head back and looked up. She pointed behind him. "There is! There's a full moon behind you, Sun Yu! Why did you suddenly ask?"
Oh no! Sun Yu felt a chill run down his spine. They'd been having so much fun that he'd lost track of time, and of all days, today was the full moon!
The full moon was when Saiyans gave in to their nature. When they saw it, their tails absorbed the 17 million units of Blutz Waves emitted by the moon, transforming them into Great Apes. In Great Ape form, their strength increased tenfold, but they lost their reason. In the Dragon Ball anime, only Vegeta could retain his original consciousness after transforming. So unless something unexpected happened, Lana and Sun Yu himself were both the type who couldn't control their reason after a Great Ape Transformation.
"Damn it, I can't let Sis Lana transform here!" Sun Yu had no time to explain. He immediately jumped off the building, hoping to cut off her tail before she transformed completely.
But he was still too late. Just as Sun Yu flew out, Lana's body began to grow. Even her clothes were torn to shreds right in front of him.
"P-pink!" Sun Yu accidentally saw something he shouldn't have. He'd honestly never expected a tough Saiyan girl like Lana to choose such a girlish color.
But this really wasn't the time to focus on that! Sun Yu shook his head and, determined to look away, turned and flew toward Lana's back.
Perhaps because Sun Yu had stared straight at her and seen everything, Lana seemed irritated as she transformed. In a rage, she swung a hand at him.
"Whoa!" Sun Yu was completely unprepared. All he could think about was cutting off Lana's tail as quickly as possible, and he never expected a hand to come swinging from behind him. Lana's normal fighting power peaked at 120,000. With the tenfold boost from her Great Ape Transformation, that slap had a force of over a million. The moment it struck Sun Yu, the world spun around him. He nearly lost consciousness.
"I'm going to die, I'm going to die, I'm going to die..." Sun Yu felt as if several of his bones had broken. Fortunately, he always carried a few Senzu Beans with him. He hurriedly ate one and barely managed to save his life.
He didn't dare look up at the sky just yet. Carefully climbing to his feet, he found himself facing two enormous figures.
Sun Yu rubbed his eyes hard and, after checking several times that he wasn't seeing things, finally made out the two enormous figures that had suddenly appeared before him.
The one closer to him was Lana, transformed into a Great Ape. Sun Yu was all too familiar with her brown fur and enormous ape-like body. But what on earth was the other one?
The other gigantic beast, farther away, was crouched on the ground, apparently in great pain. But it didn't stay that way for long. Soon, Sun Yu saw it suddenly raise its head and let out a long, clear roar toward the full moon.
"Awooo..."
It was the wolf-man, Ace!
Suddenly, it was as if lightning flashed through Sun Yu's mind. He realized that Ace sounded like the English letter "X"!
Could it be Project X? Sun Yu suddenly remembered the files he'd seen in the Red Ribbon Army's underground archives that day. Project X was supposedly a super android developed by combining DNA grafting with bioengineering. If that was the case, then the grafted DNA must have come from Sun Yu's cell samples. That would explain why Ace had transformed into a giant beast after seeing the full moon as well.
"So that's it, that's it... You're an android too. No, I should call you an artificial wolf!"
Once he understood what had happened, Sun Yu found it hard to believe. But given the situation, Dr. Gero hadn't yet developed the eternal energy reactor like the ones inside Androids 17 and 18 in the original Dragon Ball story. If Ace had one inside him, then Sun Yu would have no chance against him unless he could reach the peak of Super Saiyan 1.
He wondered if cutting off Ace's wolf tail would turn him back into his original human form!
