"Shin, I'm a little worried."
Kushina said with a worried expression. She was very clever; if she and Shin had encountered enemies even while living in such a remote place, the current state of the clan grounds was easy to imagine.
"Worrying won't help."
Shin shook his head slightly. Although he wasn't well-regarded within the Uzumaki Clan, he still received what he was entitled to, so he didn't want to see the Uzumaki Clan perish.
But there was nothing Shin could change. Even though he knew the Uzumaki Clan would face an extinction event, who would believe him if he spoke out?
Moreover, Shin had no idea when the Uzumaki Clan would be wiped out. Even if someone truly believed his words, there would be no way to prepare.
The enemies had already set their sights on the Uzumaki Clan, and their first strike would undoubtedly be a thunderous blow. In the original story, the Uzumaki Clan was destroyed before Konoha could even manage to send reinforcements.
As for going to save the Uzumaki Clan himself? Don't make him laugh. Shin wouldn't let his ego inflate just because he had managed to kill a Jonin through a trap; going there would just be throwing his life away.
Sitting by the river, Kushina leaned against Shin. Unlike him, Shin was a transmigrator; while his body was that of a five-year-old child, his soul was not.
However, Kushina was truly just a five-year-old girl. Although children in the world of Naruto were generally very precocious, the current experiences still left Kushina feeling somewhat panicked.
Only by leaning in Shin's embrace could Kushina feel a sliver of peace.
"Xiao Yu, promise me, never leave me."
Kushina raised her head, looking at Shin with bright eyes filled with expectation.
Kushina was terrified. When Shin faced those ninjas earlier, she had been truly afraid that something might happen to him.
Fortunately, Shin was fine; otherwise, she feared she wouldn't have the courage to keep living. Being all alone was simply too hard to bear.
"Alright, I promise you, Kushina, I will never leave you."
Shin looked straight into Kushina's eyes, promising her earnestly.
Kushina hugged Shin, closed her eyes, and nuzzled her head against him. As drowsiness continued to wash over her, she fell into a peaceful sleep in his arms.
Watching Kushina sleep quietly, Shin smiled slightly, then reached for the ninja tool pouch to check its contents.
He had already examined the Jonin's pouch; aside from ninja tools and two ninjutsu scrolls, there were only some Military Ration Pill and dry rations.
Following that, Shin opened the pouches of the two elite Chunin and looked through their contents.
Kunai, shuriken, and even senbon, along with more Military Ration Pill, dry rations, and a few Explosive Tag.
Explosive Tag were good items, but they were very expensive. Although their blast radius was small, their lethality was not to be underestimated.
Beyond these, Shin also found a ninjutsu scroll recording the Chakra Refinement Technique, as well as the simple Three Basic Techniques.
The Three Basic Techniques consisted of the Substitution Technique, Transformation Technique, and Clone Technique—all of which were the most common E-rank ninjutsu, very low-level.
Of course, being low-level didn't mean they weren't useful, though the Transformation Technique and Clone Technique were generally easy to see through.
The clones created by the Clone Technique couldn't attack at all, and they were completely incomparable to the Shadow Clone Technique.
However, the Substitution Technique had great utility, allowing one to quickly swap places with an object to evade attacks.
The elite Chunin from earlier had used the Substitution Technique to dodge one of Shin's attacks.
Of course, as a lowest-tier ninjutsu, you couldn't call it incredibly powerful; it still depended on the user.
Although the Substitution Technique allowed one to swap places with other objects, it wasn't a space-time ninjutsu; it relied on speed to complete the maneuver.
Therefore, the Substitution Technique became less useful against stronger opponents, as it was easily seen through. After all, it was only an E-rank ninjutsu and could never reach the level of Uchiha Sasuke's Rinnegan ocular technique, Amenotejikara.
Shin studied the Three Basic Techniques. Since he was a genius, he learned these three simple ninjutsu in no time at all.
Several hours passed, and the sky began to brighten. The sun peeked over the horizon, its warm rays seemingly dispelling the gloom.
Kushina woke up, rubbed her eyes, and looked around in a panic, only relaxing once she saw Shin.
"You're awake. Eat something."
Shin took out some dried meat and handed it to Kushina. This was some of the food they had hurriedly grabbed when they left home.
"I'm not hungry." Kushina shook her head.
It wasn't that Kushina wasn't hungry; it was just that she wasn't in the mood to eat right now.
"You have to eat. Otherwise, if we encounter danger, you won't even have the strength to run away."
Under Shin's persuasion, Kushina ate a few pieces of dried meat.
"I've already sent out Shadow Clone Technique to scout; those invaders have left," Shin told Kushina.
Shin had released ten shadow clones to investigate the situation, and by four in the morning, those invaders had already departed.
Shin also knew that he was safe now.
Because the system had already granted him the reward for the survival mission: the Common Copy Card.
"Have they left? What about our clan grounds?" Kushina's face lit up with joy, but as she thought of their home, she asked Shin with a worried expression.
Shin shook his head, recalling the images transmitted back by his shadow clone—it was a literal river of blood.
Shin did not know if there were any survivors; regardless, his shadow clone had not discovered a single one.
Seeing Shin shake his head, Kushina's heart sank, knowing that things were surely dire.
Forget it, as long as Shin was fine, that was all that mattered; Kushina could not worry about the other clansmen anymore.
After resting for a while, Shin took Kushina and left the forest, heading toward the clan grounds. While they were still a long way off, they could already smell a pungent scent of blood.
"Kushina, don't be afraid in a moment," Shin said, gripping Kushina's trembling hand.
Kushina nodded firmly and continued to walk forward.
However, upon truly reaching the clan grounds and seeing the corpses littering the ground, Kushina vomited immediately.
Even though Shin already had this scene in his mind through his shadow clone, he still felt uncomfortable.
The Uzumaki Clan had over two hundred people, and basically, all of them were dead. The blood of these two hundred people pooled together, showing Shin what a true river of blood looked like.
Moreover, it wasn't just the blood of the Uzumaki Clan members; there was also the blood of those who had invaded the clan. Although he did not see their corpses, Shin did not believe they had suffered no casualties; perhaps their bodies had already been taken away.
"Kushina, are you alright?" Shin asked her.
Kushina shook her head. She had already vomited everything she had eaten that morning; the scene before her was indeed gruesome.
"Shin, our Uzumaki Clan?"
"The Uzumaki Clan is gone." Shin sighed, his desire to become stronger burning even more intensely in his heart.
In this world, without strength, this was the inevitable outcome. If the Uzumaki Clan had possessed powerhouses like Senju Hashirama or Uchiha Madara, would they have ended up like this?
Snap!
The sound was very faint, but Shin heard it. He cast his gaze toward a spot not far away and said coldly, "Who's there?"
"No, don't kill me." A little girl's voice filled with terror rang out, followed by a scream, and then the little girl fainted on the spot.
"Red hair, is she a survivor of our clan?" Shin pulled Kushina along as they walked over.
A little girl of the same age as Shin and Kushina lay in a pool of blood in front of a burned-down house.
Beside her was a cellar; it seemed she had survived because she had been hiding inside.
She must have made a sound while crawling out of the cellar, which was heard by Shin, and then she had been frightened into unconsciousness by the scene around her.
