Background / History

Shin was active in Konoha as Tsunade’s disciple while concealing the Copy System that allowed him to reproduce powers through Copy Cards. He used a Common Copy Card to copy an Uchiha jōnin’s Sharingan power, then later infiltrated Kirigakure to obtain the Yuki clan’s Ice Release. He avoided copying the Kaguya clan’s Shikotsumyaku because of its associated disease and the uncertainty of finding an awakened user. 22 56

During the First Shinobi World War, Shin trained through mass Shadow Clone practice, rapidly mastering the Mystical Palm Technique after Tsunade taught it to him. He entered the battlefield after Tsunade was wounded and single-handedly devastated Sunagakure’s forces, injuring the Third Kazekage and Chiyo while killing more than five hundred enemy shinobi. 73 76

Although he assisted Konoha to secure a God-tier Copy Card, Shin refused to remain subordinate to the village. He coerced Sarutobi Hiruzen into exchanging the One-Tail and Eight-Tails for access to the Scroll of Sealing, memorized and copied its contents, then left Konoha with Kushina, Mese, and Konan. 78 148 149

His pursuit of stronger bloodlines and ocular powers led him to the Ōtsutsuki conflict on the moon, where he copied a Tenseigan and awakened the Rinne-Tenseigan. He later cultivated Six Paths Sage Mode, mastered Yin–Yang Release and Kekkei Mōra, and evolved his eyes further by copying Nagato’s Rinnegan. 157 181 187 194

Appearance

Shin’s appearance changes visibly with his ocular evolutions and chakra modes. At age twelve, he was approximately 1.6 meters tall; during his later pirate activities, he is described as roughly 1.8 meters tall. 125 480

  • His eyes progressed from Sharingan to Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan, then blue Rinne-Tenseigan, Six-Tomoe Rinne-Tenseigan, and Nine-Tomoe Rinne-Tenseigan. 91 157 187 194
  • He can conceal the tomoe in his Nine-Tomoe Rinne-Tenseigan, making the eyes appear to be ordinary Rinne-Tenseigan. 194
  • Six Paths Sage Mode manifests as a chakra robe and nine floating Truth-Seeking Orbs; he can alter the robe’s color and style at will. 181
  • His Tenseigan Chakra Mode manifests as pitch-black chakra. 208

Personality

Shin is intensely pragmatic about power. He values unique bloodlines and ocular abilities over ordinary ninjutsu mastery, uses Copy Cards selectively, and plans around threats that could challenge him. Early in the war, he deliberately withheld strength and declined to pursue Sunagakure’s retreating forces to avoid attracting Uchiha Madara and Black Zetsu. 76 78

He is confident to the point of arrogance against weaker opponents, frequently taunting Kage, rogue ninja, and Ōtsutsuki. He is also capable of calculated cruelty: he manipulated Obito’s plan against Yahiko, killed Hanzo without hesitation, and killed Naruto and Sasuke to provoke Hagoromo. 139 230 242 401

Despite this ruthlessness, Shin consistently trains and protects those close to him. He teaches Kushina, Mikoto, Tsunade, Konan, Hancock, Olvia, and Robin; he also shows concern for companions’ safety and uses his overwhelming strength to shield them when necessary. 90 161 480 485

Abilities & Skills

Copy System

Shin’s defining ability is a system that reproduces powers through different grades of Copy Cards.

  • Common Copy Cards can copy limited or temporary power, such as the Uchiha jōnin’s Sharingan pupil power. 22
  • Advanced Copy Cards have been used for Ice Release, Mangekyō Sharingan, Lightning Release Chakra Mode, Magnet Release, and Kotoamatsukami. 56 91 125 139 299
  • God-tier Copy Cards can copy otherwise inaccessible powers, including the Rinnegan and Tenseigan. 144 157 194
  • Copied abilities are perfectly compatible with Shin’s body, unlike transplanted powers. 78
  • Even Advanced Copy Cards have limits; one could not copy Ōnoki’s Particle Style. 132

Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan

Shin’s Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan substantially increased his chakra reserves, physical state, and ocular power.

  • Amaterasu and Kagutsuchi — copied from Uchiha Ryota; allows black-flame generation and manipulation. 91
  • Yomotsu Hirasaka — opens spatial rifts and portals for long-distance travel, battlefield repositioning, and remote attacks. Shin nearly killed Chiyo by passing his Kusanagi Sword through connected rifts from hundreds of meters away. 75 135
  • Amenominaka — can erase or regress targets through time-space manipulation; Shin used it to nullify Particle Style and later reflected the White Snake Sage’s senjutsu attack. 131 208
  • Tianyu no Mikoto — forms an invisible blade from ocular power and spiritual energy. 303

Rinne-Tenseigan

The fusion of Shin’s Rinnegan and Tenseigan is his primary dōjutsu after the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan.

  • Shinra Tensei — generates repulsive force capable of dispersing attacks and killing groups of enemies. 158 475
  • Banshō Ten’in — gravitational attraction used to control positioning. 458
  • Mental control — can manipulate another person’s will and actions; Shin can control even Kage-level shinobi as puppets. 212
  • Enhanced perception — provides a full 360-degree field of view without blind spots and vision across dozens of kilometers. 418
  • Takamagahara — reflected Otsutsuki Ryusuke’s Golden Wheel Reincarnation Explosion. 159

Sage Modes and Six Paths Power

Shin developed Sage Mode independently, then elevated it into Six Paths Sage Mode.

  • Sage Mode doubles the power of his ninjutsu, taijutsu, and genjutsu, but originally required time to absorb natural energy and could not be maintained indefinitely. 96 117
  • Six Paths Sage Mode fuses Shin’s chakra, Tailed Beast chakra, and natural energy, granting Six Paths Sage Arts and Truth-Seeking Orbs. 181
  • Truth-Seeking Orbs can annihilate anyone lacking Six Paths power on contact; however, the orbs cannot be restored if destroyed or sealed until Shin can freely create them through Kekkei Mōra. 181
  • Kekkei Mōra and Yin–Yang Release allow Shin to wield the seven chakra transformations and maintain true Six Paths-level power. 182 187

Nature Transformations and Kekkei Genkai

Shin possesses a large collection of copied and cultivated releases.

  • Ice Release — includes Ice Wall, large-scale freezing through Ice Release: Ice Age, and ice prisons capable of trapping powerful opponents. 75 91 132
  • Wood Release — used for Deep Forest Emergence, Wood Clones, Wood Human Technique, and Sage Art: Wood Release: True Several Thousand Hands. 157 159 371
  • Wind Release — uses Wind Style: Rasenshuriken and Wind Style: Great Breakthrough. 80 86
  • Magnet Release — copied from the Third Kazekage; capable of controlling iron-based objects. 139
  • Lightning Release Chakra Mode — copied from the Third Raikage; enhances Shin’s physical combat ability. 125
  • All-Killing Ash Bones — acquired by copying Otsutsuki Kaguya’s powers. 460

Genjutsu and Mental Techniques

Shin uses ocular and spiritual techniques for control, interrogation, and large-scale manipulation.

  • Tsukuyomi — incapacitated Ōnoki during Shin’s raid on Iwagakure. 132
  • Kotoamatsukami — can alter another person’s will without the target noticing; its effectiveness depends on the user’s spiritual power relative to the target. 299 310
  • Hypnosis — used Sharingan hypnosis to infiltrate Kirigakure and locate the Third Raikage. 56 125
  • Mind’s Eye of the Kagura — prevents surprise attacks by monitoring surrounding chakra movements. 132

Space-Time Ninjutsu

Shin supplements Yomotsu Hirasaka with several additional spatial techniques.

  • Flying Thunder God Technique — learned from the copied Scroll of Sealing; Shin claims a deeper understanding of it than Namikaze Minato and secretly marked Obito for instant travel. 148 226 227
  • Kamui — copied for its dimensional intangibility and storage utility; used it to evade Sasuke’s attack. 223 461
  • Yomotsu Hirasaka can traverse vast distances, though extended travel consumes significant chakra and ocular power. 135

Combat, Medical, and Training Skills

Shin combines overwhelming physical force with weapon skill and accelerated training.

  • Swordsmanship — uses lethal, force-based swordsmanship with the Kusanagi Sword and later the Grass Lotus Sword; he can sever a waterfall with one strike through sword intent. 74 86 503
  • Body Flicker Technique — used to cut through Sunagakure forces and jōnin at high speed. 74
  • Mystical Palm Technique — mastered shortly after Tsunade taught it and used it to treat her battlefield injury. 73
  • Shadow Clone training — uses thousands of clones to accelerate ninjutsu training and technique development, though taijutsu, swordsmanship, and chakra refinement still require personal practice. 73 96

Pirate-World Techniques

In his later pirate activities, Shin adapts copied abilities to a world without chakra cultivation.

  • Six Powers — copied Navy martial arts, which become vastly stronger when amplified by Shin’s physical strength. 480
  • Haki — copied the ability to cultivate Haki; his Conqueror’s Haki is strengthened by his own spiritual power and can overwhelm combatants such as Kaido. 474 507
  • Rumble-Rumble Fruit abilities — copied lightning powers from Olvia without becoming a Devil Fruit user or gaining the associated weakness to seawater. 490
  • Flight training — taught Hancock how to fly and later trained her in martial arts and swordsmanship. 473 474 503

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Kusanagi Sword — Shin’s battlefield sword during the First Shinobi World War; used in his attempted spatial assassination of Chiyo. 75 86
  • Grass Lotus Sword — sword used during his Ōtsutsuki conflict and while teaching Hancock swordsmanship. 157 503
  • Copy Cards — Common, Advanced, and God-tier cards supplied or rewarded by the Copy System. 22 56 144
