Background / History
Tang Ya is the sole descendant and last Sect Master of the ten-thousand-year-old Tang Sect. When the Iron Blood Sect hunts her for the Tang Sect's secret techniques, she is only level 18 and flees with the sect's remaining servants: her elderly grandmother and two wounded disciples. The servants make their final stand to protect her, but the two disciples are killed and her grandmother is critically wounded. Tang Ya refuses to surrender either herself or the sect's heritage. 25 26
Zichuan intervenes after Tang Ya warns him to flee despite her own danger. He shields her from Tie Bi and eradicates the pursuing Iron Blood Sect members. In the aftermath, Tang Ya mourns the dead disciples and buries them with Zichuan's help, then admits that she fears the Tang Sect may be impossible to restore. 26 29
While stranded near the Sunset Forest, Tang Ya discovers that Zichuan's Heart of Life resonates with her plant-type martial soul. Her contact with its life aura raises her soul power and begins a profound martial-soul evolution. She and Zichuan make an arrangement: she cooks and handles camp chores, while he allows controlled exposure to the Heart of Life's aura. 30
After six months, Tang Ya has reached level 25 and set her Blue Silver Grass on the path toward the Blue Silver Emperor. Zichuan later departs with Du Busi, while Tang Ya continues pursuing her goal of rebuilding the Tang Sect. 31
Five years later, Tang Ya is a level-50 Shrek Academy Inner Court student. She recognizes Zichuan immediately in the Star Dou Great Forest, embraces him, and reveals that she had been searching for him. Her improved talent has made her important enough that Xuan Zi personally accompanies her to obtain a fifth soul ring. 47 48
Rather than return to Shrek with Xuan Zi, Tang Ya chooses to remain with Zichuan. He guides her toward a life-and-support-focused development path for the Blue Silver Emperor, helps her seek suitable soul rings, and later asks her to return to Shrek as a contact who can recruit promising students for the Body Sect and, eventually, help rebuild the Tang Sect. 52 54 60 61
Appearance
Tang Ya is a blue-haired young woman whose appearance changes markedly after her martial soul evolves and several years pass.
- Long, deep-blue hair, usually tied in a high ponytail. 25 47
- Pretty oval face, fair skin, and expressive, lively eyes. 25 47
- Initially wears a simple blue cloth dress, torn and bloodstained during the Iron Blood Sect pursuit. 25
- Later wears a fitted purple martial outfit and carries herself with competence and confidence. 47
- Her evolved martial soul manifests as deep blue-gold, jade-like grass and vines. 31
Personality
Tang Ya is compassionate even under extreme pressure. While trapped by the Iron Blood Sect, she warns the seemingly helpless Zichuan to escape rather than protect herself. Her grief over her fallen servants is intense, but it does not weaken her determination to preserve the Tang Sect's legacy. 26 29
The collapse of the Tang Sect leaves her insecure about her future, yet she remains stubbornly committed to restoring it. Zichuan's aid and the evolution of her martial soul gradually replace her earlier despair with confidence, initiative, and a strong sense of purpose. 29 31 48
She is openly affectionate and deeply trusting toward Zichuan. After finding him again five years later, she refuses to let Shrek Academy separate them and chooses to accompany him into the Star Dou Great Forest. 48 52 53
