Background / History
Liam is the only son of King Genn Greymane and Queen Mia Greymane of Gilneas. At fourteen, he receives memories from Earth and discovers a card depicting him as a legendary minion. The card reveals that he is fated to die eighteen years later during the Forsaken assault on Gilneas. Refusing that future, Liam resolves to grow strong enough to preserve both his family and kingdom. 1 2
Unable to pursue magic because he failed Dalaran’s aptitude testing, and unable to meet the Silver Hand’s requirements, Liam chooses the rogue path. He leaves Gilneas before dawn with Coral, supplies, forged longswords, and a flintlock borrowed from Vincent Godfrey, which he renames Queen Killer. 2 3 26
On the journey to Ravenholdt Manor, Liam recruits Vailton Barov as an attendant and uses his card to grant the boy the legendary Mask Collector form. At Ravenholdt, Liam gains Duke Jorach Ravenholdt’s interest by revealing intelligence about Garona, then formally enters the Assassin League with Vailton and Vanessa VanCleef. 5 6 11 12
After years of rogue training, Liam undertakes an infiltration trial in the Alterac Ruins. He unleashes card-summoned creatures against the Syndicate, confronts Aiden Perenolde, and unexpectedly clashes with Onyxia. He wounds the black dragon with a Holy Light-infused shot but retreats alongside Coral when she assumes her true form. The resulting destruction cripples the Syndicate’s Alterac stronghold. 13 15 17 18 19
Liam later leaves Ravenholdt with Vailton and travels through Lordaeron in pursuit of a ship and capable sailors. He repeatedly crosses paths with Jaina Proudmoore, defeats Prince Arthas through unconventional combat, kidnaps Jaina after a naval battle, and reaches Freehold in Kul Tiras. There, he recruits Flynn Fairwind as a guide for an expedition toward Stormsong Valley. 20 25 33 36 40
Appearance
Liam is a young Gilnean prince whose handsome features and heroic bearing resemble those of his father, Genn Greymane. He commonly presents himself as a refined noble despite the increasingly predatory nature beneath that exterior. 3 16
- Carries himself with the polish expected of Gilneas’s crown prince. 3
- Uses disguises and stealth when operating outside royal territory. 31 35
- Favors practical rogue equipment, including flintlocks, swords, daggers, and grappling hooks. 3 33
Personality
Liam is driven by a fierce refusal to accept the future shown by his Earth memories. He sees Gilneas’s isolation, the Greymane Wall, and the political failures surrounding his father as threats to his homeland, and he embraces the “wolf-like” nature he believes Gilneans have suppressed. 1
He is calculating, irreverent, and willing to manipulate people when it serves his goals. He tests Vailton’s loyalty, exploits his foreknowledge to impress Ravenholdt’s leadership, and often provokes stronger opponents with casual mockery. 5 7 11 16
Despite this ruthlessness, Liam is deeply sympathetic toward civilians harmed by war, banditry, and political conflict. He repeatedly targets Syndicate criminals, assists persecuted farmers during training, and intervenes when Freehold’s children are endangered. 6 7 13 38 40
Liam recognizes that he bonds easily with others and may be vulnerable to manipulation without his future knowledge and loyalty assessments. 40
