Background / History
Chen Guan acquired the Flood Dragon bloodline while reincarnated as a Carp Demon. The bloodline originated from a drop of essence blood left behind by a Flood Dragon with 2,300 years of cultivation, who had condensed its lifelong demonic power into a posthumous inheritance. Its initial memories provided water-demon cultivation methods, followed years later by knowledge of transformation and Foundation Establishment. 80
After reaching Foundation Establishment, Chen Guan transformed into a human-like form and began acting openly along the South Sea. His true form, a massive half-Flood Dragon that drew surrounding water spiritual energy, caused sailors, cultivators, and fishermen to spread news of a “Flood Dragon in the South Sea.” This reputation developed into the title South Sea Demon King. 81 82
Although pursued by the Demon-Slaying Bureau and feared for his lightning affinity, the Flood Dragon repeatedly aided humans, including fishermen threatened by fish demons. His actions and association with Qi Yan complicated the Bureau’s efforts to categorize him as a threat. 80 83 102
During the Grand Canal calamity, Chen Guan used his Flood Dragon body, heart blood, and remaining life force to stabilize the waterway and protect Great Qi. His body sank to the riverbed after his death, while the public commemorated him as the Great Qi River God and established River God Town around the site. 103 104
Appearance
The Flood Dragon can alternate between a human guise and a draconic combat body. Its human form appears youthful and handsome but retains subtle dragon traits, while its true body becomes increasingly immense as its power grows. 80 81 111 160
- Human form — handsome appearance; fish-scale-like markings on the backs of the hands and slight temple protrusions. 80
- Half-Flood Dragon form — over thirty meters long, combining fish and serpent traits; possesses claw-like limbs with three talons each. 81
- Combat manifestations — projected a fifty-meter Flood Dragon body during the battle with the West Demon King and later transformed into a three-hundred-foot body against the Xuanyuan Sect Master. 111 160
- Scales — cyan-black or ink-black scales that shimmer with lightning and are described as exceptionally hard. 111 133 160
- Aura — naturally gathers water spiritual energy and can overwhelm weaker cultivators through dragon-kind pressure and roars. 81 100
Abilities & Skills
Flood Dragon Bloodline
A growth-type dragon-kind bloodline that improves Chen Guan’s physique, Water Spirit Root, perception, and compatibility with water techniques. 80 85 112
- Grants or upgrades an adaptive Water Spirit Root as the bloodline advances. 80 85
- Increases base strength for every point of bloodline proficiency. 80 112 194
- Enhances sensory ability; the Yin Thunder fusion increased all of Chen Guan’s senses. 80 120
- Allows dragon-kind bloodline devouring and fusion, including the absorption of Ink Flood Dragon blood. 120
- Enables inherited cultivation memories, including demon cultivation, transformation, and Foundation Establishment knowledge. 80
Transformation
The Flood Dragon can take human form or assume a massive draconic body for combat and movement. 80 81
- Human transformation conceals most obvious Flood Dragon traits and permits changes to appearance and physique after Foundation Establishment. 80 83
- Human form initially suppresses roughly 30% of his power. 81
- Flood Dragon form drastically improves physical force, speed, and the gathering of water spiritual energy. 81 111
- Advanced Fist and Kick later removed most race-based suppression when changing between demon and human forms. 123
Water, Fire, and Lightning Affinity
Though naturally water-aspected, the Flood Dragon bloodline supports water, fire, and lightning cultivation. Chen Guan can switch among the three attributes or employ them simultaneously. 81
- Water — strengthens water techniques and allows large-scale water manipulation. 112 136
- Lightning — Chen Guan’s preferred cultivation attribute early on due to its superior Spirit Root; its suppressive nature can restrain demon Yin-Sha. 81 99
- Fire — compatible with the Flood Dragon’s inherited three-attribute constitution. 81
- Limit — Chen Guan had not yet developed a combined fire-and-water technique at the time he tested the attributes. 81
Rain Prayer Technique
A Flood Dragon natal divine ability also called Wind and Rain Summoning. 81
- Draws clouds, gathers water essence, and can bring rainfall. 81 84
- Can be perfected at the Golden Core realm. 81
- Its early effectiveness was limited by Chen Guan’s insufficient mana. 81
- At his fifth-life peak, Chen Guan could summon wind, rain, thunder, and lightning across a two-hundred-mile radius. 104
Thunder Arts
Chen Guan pairs his Flood Dragon constitution with domineering lightning techniques. 83 100
- Bound two Wolf Demon Kings with purple lightning ropes, blocking their Yin-Sha and forcing them from the air. 99
- Used the Five Thunder Curse alongside Flood Dragon transformation to kill the West Demon King. 111
- Manifested thousands of thunderbolts to neutralize the Xuanyuan Sect Master’s sword attack. 160
- Lightning-aspected dragon aura was feared by the Demon-Slaying Bureau as a potential danger to coastal populations. 83
Physical Strength and Dragon Body
The Flood Dragon body is Chen Guan’s preferred physical combat form. 111 133
- A tail strike against the West Demon King carried over one million catties of force. 111
- At a depth of one thousand meters, Chen Guan could shatter riverbed rock with a casual tail flick. 133
- Its physique was considered at least five times stronger than that of an ordinary cultivator even before full Dragon Transformation. 103
- Later bloodline development raised his Flood Dragon-based physical foundation to extraordinary levels. 194
Relationships
- Chen Guan — the reincarnator who acquired, cultivated, and ultimately fused the Flood Dragon bloodline into his own legacy. 80 120
- Qi Yan — trusted Dao brother and ally; their connection helped convince others that the South Sea Flood Dragon was not inherently hostile. 83 102 104
- Chen Changhong — Chen Guan’s grandson; brought him the Ink Flood Dragon bloodline that enabled the Yin Thunder fusion. 99 120
- Zhao Wu — grandnephew who knew him as “Grandpa Dragon” and received cultivation guidance from him. 87 104
- Director Wu — head of the Demon-Slaying Bureau and a persistent adversary who sought to prevent the Flood Dragon from becoming a catastrophe. 82 83
- Lin Yiqing — regarded Chen Guan as his master and later sought to remain at River God Town to guard his memorial. 100 104
- Great King Gray Rat — recipient of a Foundation Establishment manual from Chen Guan, repaying a debt owed by the Dragon King of the South Sea. 107
