Zi Ji originally resided in a cavern within her territory as a massive purple dragon. Cold by nature and disinclined toward idle conversation, she nevertheless obeyed Di Tian, the Beast God, absolutely. After Gu Yuena ordered Di Tian and Zi Ji to locate the being connected to the Dragon God's aura without offending him, Di Tian informed Zi Ji of Xuan Qing's apparent connection to the Dragon God's avatar and entrusted her with locating and protecting him while keeping the matter secret from the other soul beasts. 5 6

After tracking Xuan Qing from Tianyuan City to Suotuo City, Zi Ji approached him in human form. Xuan Qing immediately recognized her connection to Gu Yuena, whom he called the “Little Silver Dragon,” and allowed her to remain at his side after she agreed to conceal her soul beast aura. Drawn by the prospect that proximity to him could improve her bloodline, she became his follower and combat support. 7
