World Martial Arts Tournament

Time flew by in the blink of an eye, and the Majin Buu arc was already upon them.

Gohan was sixteen years old now. He had originally intended to skip school and just study at home, but Gogito told Chi-Chi that the boy couldn't spend his whole life buried in books; he needed to get out, meet friends, and experience the pulse of the world.

Gogito whispered to Chi-Chi that Gohan might even bring home a girlfriend, and Chi-Chi immediately made the executive decision to send Gohan to the nearest city for high school.

And so, Gohan began his life as a high school student.

Because Cell never existed, Mr. Satan never became the hero who saved the world. He remained only modestly famous, though as the reigning World Martial Arts Tournament champion, he was still quite wealthy.

Just as in the original story, Gohan and Videl became classmates. The difference was that Gohan had never been influenced by the Ginyu Force, so he lacked their warped sense of aesthetics. Furthermore, under the guidance of Master Roshi and Gogito, he didn't choose to hide his identity; whenever a villain appeared, Gohan would arrive to settle everything.

Consequently, the relationship between Gohan and Videl progressed by leaps and bounds. Everything felt natural. Gohan was nothing like Goku—he wasn't a dense blockhead who understood nothing. He occasionally read books about romance and was quite savvy in that department! Heh.

Both families met soon after, ironed out the details, and decided that the two would finish high school and college before getting married.

On the weekend, Videl flew her plane to Gohan's house to find him. Gohan was reading Tights' latest novel. Seeing Videl, he happily walked over, took her hand, and sat her down on the sofa. "Videl, what brings you here?"

Videl gave Gohan's arm a light tap and said, "After many years, the World Martial Arts Tournament is being held again. It's scheduled for one month from now."

"Your father was the champion two tournaments ago, and my father was the champion of the last one."

"This time, I can't let the championship go to anyone else."

"So, I've decided to enter."

"Are you going to participate, Gohan?"

Videl explained the situation regarding the World Martial Arts Tournament and asked if Gohan would join.

"I think I'll pass. I'll be there to cheer for you, though."

For Gohan, participating would just be bullying the weak; it was pointless. He'd rather spend the time reading or training.

"That's true. Your strength is so immense, Gohan, there's no point in you entering."

Videl knew how powerful Gohan was and didn't press the issue.

"Then, for the next month, please guide my training, Gohan!"

Videl requested his tutelage.

Gohan agreed without a second thought.

The two took a month-long leave from school and began their training.

At Gogito's house, three children were running around and playing, while Buu sat on the floor eating pudding and watching them.

Because of Gogito, Trunks was a few months older than he had been originally, while Goten remained unchanged.

Ace had already become the ringleader among the children. All three could transform into a Super Saiyan, with Ace being the strongest, while Trunks and Goten were fairly evenly matched.

The three children were never home, spending every day playing outside. They had broken other people's property several times, leading to angry neighbors showing up at the door.

Sigh, unruly kids are so hard to manage.

When they heard that Videl wanted to participate in the World Martial Arts Tournament, they clamored to go as well, saying they wanted to cheer for her.

Goku and Vegeta, that pair of rivals, had long since reached the level of Super Saiyan 3, and were even stronger than they were in the anime. Broly was training diligently and could now exert his full power without going berserk, though he still couldn't transform into a Super Saiyan. Goku had tried to teach him, but without success; the moment Broly showed signs of transforming, he would start to lose control, perhaps because his training wasn't quite enough.

Gogito's base power had long since broken through the heavens. He had even fused Super Saiyan 4 with God Ki, reaching a limit-breaking Super Saiyan 4 state. He could also use Ultra Instinct while in Super Saiyan Blue or Super Saiyan 4, though he couldn't yet use it with the limit-breaking form.

Gogito felt he was ready to challenge Beerus.

In the blink of an eye, a month passed, and the World Martial Arts Tournament was held as scheduled.

Gohan walked down the street with his fiancée and the three little ones, each of them holding an ice cream.

As they walked, Goten suddenly bumped into someone, and his ice cream fell to the ground. Goten looked at the ice cream on the pavement, feeling a bit angry. He glared at the guy blocking their path, his fists clenched, looking like he wanted to start a fight. However, the man was called away by a skinny fellow and didn't even look back.

Gohan quickly held Goten back, and Videl bought him a new ice cream. Still, Gohan felt a bit strange. Had that man not noticed Goten bumping into him? Moreover, Gohan had sensed a trace of evil God Ki coming from him.

"What's wrong, Gohan?"

Seeing Gohan lost in thought, Videl asked curiously.

"That guy just now felt a bit strange."

Hearing Videl's question, Gohan voiced his intuition.

"I don't know how to describe it."

"It's fine. With you here, Gohan, even if he is a bad guy, he won't pose any threat."

Videl gave Gohan a sweet smile.

"That's true."

Gohan replied with a smile as well.

The group continued to stroll for a while until they heard an announcement that registration for the adult division was about to begin. Videl went to line up, while Gohan took the three children into the spectator area of the venue.

Before long, Videl appeared in the contestant area. The preliminaries were a breeze for her.

Not long after, the tournament began. The junior division went first, but with Goten and Trunks not participating, the matches were rather dull. In the end, some unknown kid took first place and walked away with the ten-million-zeni prize.

Next came the adult division.

The announcer introduced the contestants with great excitement.

"Next, let's welcome Panda and his opponent!"

"Panda goes straight for a crushing blow, pinning his opponent to the ground! His opponent struggles with all his might, but the gap in power is too great—it's useless! He has no strength left to fight and concedes!!"

"Panda advances."

The announcer's passionate commentary drew thunderous cheers from the crowd.

"Next up!!"

"Let's welcome Shin and his opponent to the stage!"

"The match begins!"

"The opponent strikes first, charging at Shin, but Shin stands his ground without moving an inch."

"Shin raises his hand and knocks his opponent off the ring with a single chop."

"Incredible! He defeated his opponent in one move!!"

"Shin wins and advances to the next round!!"

Another wave of cheers erupted from the audience.

Gohan watched the back of Shin, finding him rather intriguing; this guy didn't seem like an ordinary person.

But what was he doing at the World Martial Arts Tournament? Suddenly, Gohan thought of the guy Goten had bumped into; perhaps he had come for him.

"Next, let's welcome Videl and Sobitchev to the stage."

"Videl is the daughter of our previous champion, Satan, and just like her father, she is incredibly strong."
