World Martial Arts Tournament

Time flew by, and before long, the Buu Saga had begun.

Gohan was now 16 years old. He hadn't planned on going to school; he figured he could just study and read at home. But Gogito told Chi-Chi that Gohan couldn't stay cooped up at home reading forever. He needed to get out, make some friends, and experience the world.

In private, he quietly told Chi-Chi that Gohan might even bring home a girlfriend or something. Chi-Chi immediately made up her mind and decided to send Gohan to a nearby city to study.

And so Gohan started high school.

With Cell never having existed, Mr. Satan hadn't become the hero who saved the world. He was only somewhat famous, but with the title of world champion to his name, Mr. Satan was still a wealthy man.

Just like in the original story, Gohan and Videl became classmates. The difference was that Gohan hadn't been influenced by the Ginyu Force and developed a warped sense of aesthetics. And under the influence of Master Roshi and Gogito, he didn't choose to hide his identity like he had before. Whenever bad guys showed up, Gohan would arrive and take care of everything.

As a result, Gohan and Videl's relationship advanced by leaps and bounds. Everything fell into place naturally. Gohan wasn't a blockhead like Goku, clueless about everything. He occasionally read books about romance, so he knew a thing or two! Heh heh.

The two families soon met, and after discussing the details, they decided the couple would finish high school and college before getting married.

One weekend, Videl flew over to Gohan's house to look for him. Gohan was reading Tights's latest novel. When he saw Videl, he happily went over, took her hand, and sat down with her on the sofa. Then he asked,

"Videl, what brings you here?"

Videl gently tapped Gohan on the arm and said,

"After all these years, the World Martial Arts Tournament is being held again. It's scheduled for a month from now."

"Your father was the champion two tournaments ago, and my father was the champion last time."

"We can't let anyone else take the championship this time."

"So I've decided to enter."

"Gohan, do you want to enter too?"

Videl told Gohan about the World Martial Arts Tournament and said she planned to compete. Then she asked if he would enter.

"I'll pass. I'll cheer you on instead."

To Gohan, entering would just mean beating up a bunch of weaklings. It wouldn't be any fun. He'd be better off reading and training more!

"Fair enough. You're so strong, Gohan. There'd be no point in you entering anyway."

Videl knew how strong Gohan was and didn't pressure him to compete.

"Then please train me for the next month, Gohan!"

Videl asked Gohan to help her train.

Gohan agreed without a second thought.

The two of them asked the school for a month off and began training.

At Gogito's house, three children were playing and roughhousing. Buu sat on the floor eating pudding as he watched them.

Because of Gogito, Trunks was a few months older than he had been originally, while Goten was unchanged.

Ace had become the big sister of the group. All three children could transform into Super Saiyans, with Ace being the strongest. Trunks and Goten were about evenly matched.

The three kids were never home during the day, always going out to play. They'd broken other people's things several times and had the owners come knocking.

Sigh, those brats are so hard to manage.

When they heard that Videl wanted to enter the World Martial Arts Tournament, they all clamored to go watch and cheer her on.

Goku and Vegeta, the pair of rivals, had long since reached Super Saiyan 3. They were even stronger than they'd been in the anime. Broly was training hard and could now use his full power without losing control, but he still couldn't transform into a Super Saiyan. Goku had tried teaching him, but it hadn't worked. Whenever Broly showed signs of transforming, he started to lose control. Perhaps he still needed more training.

Gogito's base power had long since surpassed all limits. He had also fused Super Saiyan 4 with God Ki, reaching Super Saiyan 4 Limit Breaker. He could use Ultra Instinct in Super Saiyan Blue or Super Saiyan 4, but not yet in Super Saiyan 4 Limit Breaker.

Gogito felt that he could challenge Beerus now.

In the blink of an eye, a month passed, and the World Martial Arts Tournament began as scheduled.

Gohan walked down the street with his wife and the three kids, each holding an ice cream.

As they walked, Goten suddenly bumped into someone, dropping his ice cream on the ground. Goten stared at it angrily, then glared at the guy who'd gotten in his way and clenched his fists, looking ready to take a swing. But a thin man called the guy away, and he didn't even look back.

Gohan quickly stopped Goten, and Videl bought him another ice cream. Still, Gohan found it strange. Had that guy not noticed that Goten had bumped into him? And Gohan sensed a trace of evil ki from him.

"What's wrong, Gohan?"

Videl saw Gohan thinking and asked curiously.

"That person just seemed a little strange."

At Videl's question, Gohan shared his impression.

"I'm not sure how to explain it."

"It's okay. With you here, even if he's a bad guy, he won't be a threat."

Videl gave Gohan a sweet smile.

"That's true."

Gohan smiled back.

The group walked around a little longer before hearing an announcement that registration for the adult division was about to begin. Videl went to line up, while Gohan took the three kids into the spectators' section.

Before long, Videl appeared in the competitors' area. The preliminaries were a breeze for her.

The tournament began soon after, with the children's division going first. With Goten and Trunks not competing, the matches were a little dull. In the end, some unknown kid won first place and took home the ten million prize.

Next came the adult division.

The announcer excitedly introduced the competitors,

"Next, we have Panda facing [unnamed opponent]!"

"Panda goes straight for a crushing body slam, pinning his opponent to the ground! [Unnamed opponent] struggles desperately, but the gap in strength is too great! His efforts are useless! With no way to fight back, [unnamed opponent] forfeits!"

"Panda advances!"

The announcer's enthusiastic commentary drew loud cheers from the crowd.

"Next up!!"

"Please welcome Shin and [unnamed competitor] to the ring!"

"The match begins!"

"[Unnamed competitor] strikes first, attacking Shin, but Shin remains rooted to the spot without moving."

"Shin raises a hand and knocks [unnamed competitor] out of the ring with a single chop!"

"Unbelievable! He defeats his opponent in one move!"

"Shin wins and advances to the next round!"

Another wave of cheers rose from the crowd.

Gohan watched Shin's back and found him rather interesting. He didn't seem like an ordinary person.

But what was he doing in the World Martial Arts Tournament? Suddenly, Gohan thought of the guy Goten had bumped into. Perhaps Shin had come for him.

"Next, please welcome Videl and Spopovich!"

"Videl is the daughter of our previous champion, Mr. Satan. Just like her father, she's incredibly strong."
