Background / History

Bardock and Gine sent the infant Kakarot away from Planet Vegeta after Frieza's arrival confirmed the danger to the Saiyans. He was sent in a stolen spaceship while his parents remained behind 16.

After growing up on Earth, Sun Wukong trained under Kami and Mr. Popo at the Lookout, receiving additional guidance from Whis. He later defeated King Piccolo, married Chi-Chi, and learned that Bardock and Gine were his living parents. Kasso also revealed that he was effectively Sun Wukong's older brother 146.

On Namek, Sun Wukong confronted Slug and awakened as a Super Saiyan. Kasso and Bardock deliberately withheld intervention, believing that surviving the crisis himself was necessary for Sun Wukong's growth 153 154.

Appearance

Sun Wukong is an adult Saiyan who commonly wears a reddish-brown martial arts uniform bearing the character for “Enlightenment” 529.

• In Super Saiyan, his hair becomes golden and his eyes emerald green 166.
• In Super Saiyan 3, his hair extends to his waist and his eyebrows disappear 349.

Personality

Sun Wukong is driven by a sincere love of battle and consistently seeks strong opponents. He insisted on facing Hit alone after Broly interrupted their fight, even knowing that Hit had the advantage 348.

Kasso's influence made him more attentive to his responsibilities beyond training. He came to value protecting Chi-Chi and Gohan, and he makes time for his family after long periods away from Earth 147 316. He nevertheless remains excitable and childlike around Kasso, whom he admires as both his elder brother and the Saiyan leader 426 531.

Namek Arc

Sun Wukong travelled to Namek with Piccolo and Krillin, fought Slug, and revealed his Saiyan identity. After being pushed to the brink, he became a Super Saiyan and defeated Slug 148 152 154. He later faced Frieza, who initially mistook him for Bardock because of their identical appearance 155.

Training with Vegeta

When Vegeta sought the secret of becoming a Super Saiyan, Sun Wukong explained his own awakening. He then provoked Vegeta by pretending to threaten Launch, triggering Vegeta's transformation through rage 182 183.

Android and Cell Conflict

Sun Wukong trained for three years in preparation for the Androids, learning Instant Transmission, the Spirit Bomb, and Kaio-ken 215 216. He was later severely injured when Cell reached his Perfect Form 230.

Universal Tournament

Sun Wukong joined the Universal Tournament roster and fought contestants from other universes 314. His battle against Hit forced him to reveal Super Saiyan 3 and his rudimentary Autonomous State 348 349.

Majin Buu and Dark Demon Realm Crisis

During Majin Buu's assault, Sun Wukong joined Ausbie and Bardas against Buu, then unveiled 20× Kaio-ken in Super Saiyan God form 433. He later entered the Hyperbolic Time Chamber with Piccolo, Android 17, and Android 18 to prepare for the Dark Demon Realm's coming threat 417.

GT Timeline Incident

A counterpart from the GT timeline came to the main timeline with GT Vegeta to seek Kasso's help against a threat to the main timeline 453. Sun Wukong later encountered the GT version of himself and learned that Super Saiyan 4 can sustain stronger Kaio-ken amplification than his Super Saiyan God path 475.

World Martial Arts Tournament

After Kasso returned from a decade of training, Sun Wukong eagerly agreed to enter the World Martial Arts Tournament with him 531. He advanced through the Divine Division and narrowly defeated Vegeta in their latest tournament match 534 539.
