Background / History
Over four thousand years before the current story, the Sun Moon Continent collided with the Douluo Continent. During the ensuing war, a Sea God Pavilion Master with Rank 99 cultivation and Ultimate Fire united more than sixty Titled Douluo-level powerhouses, allowing the coalition to defeat the Sun Moon Empire. The victory established Shrek's standing as the continent's foremost academy and demonstrated its ability to rally major powers 4.
After the Holy War and the death of that Pavilion Master, the four great empires and leading factions pressured Shrek to open an Outer Court. The academy had formerly had only a few dozen students and no Inner/Outer Court distinction; the expansion created major financial burdens without corresponding outside funding 4.
Following the war, Shrek was granted autonomy from the empires and relocated from Heaven Dou City to the Lima Plain. In exchange, it opened the Outer Court and required incoming students to present recommendations from their city lords 73.
Organization
| Division / Institution | Function |
|---|---|
| Sea God Pavilion | Shrek's highest governing body. Mu En serves as its master during the story, while its elders participate in major academy affairs 55. |
| Spirit Department | Teaches traditional martial souls. Yan Shaozhe is its dean; Ye Guyi is enrolled here after displaying her Sacred Angel martial soul 1 73. |
| Spirit Tool Department | Shrek's soul-tool division, led by Dean Xian Lin'er. It operates research laboratories and receives Lu Canglie, a Rank 9 Soul Engineer, to strengthen its development 1 56. |
| Inner Court | The academy's elite cultivation track, regarded as unmatched in training traditional martial souls 55. Its students conduct inspection work against Evil Soul Masters 72. |
| Outer Court | The larger entry-level school created after external pressure on Shrek. It serves as both a training ground and a place for students to build connections 3 4. |
| Shrek City Defense Army | Shrek City's standing force of 10,000, including 3,000 soul masters; many members are Outer Court graduates who did not enter the Inner Court 28. |
Campus and Admissions
- Shrek City is completely self-governing and directly administered by the academy 73.
- Standard admission requires Soul Power Level 15 before age twelve; applicants also require a city lord's recommendation letter 57 73.
- Tang Ya uses a Tang Sect exemption quota to enroll Huo Yuhao despite his Level 11 Soul Power, demonstrating that special enrollment channels exist 57.
- The Outer Court's facilities are markedly inferior to those of the Inner Court: its cafeteria lacks seating, and dormitory residents share limited bathroom facilities 3 4.
- The academy's Soul Fighting Arena is open to the public for one Silver Soul Coin, with spectators permitted to wager on matches 32.
- Freshman assessment is highly selective: only the top sixty-four teams advance, while eliminated students lose their student status 80.
Resources and Policies
- Shrek possesses exceptional soul-bone reserves, with soul bones appearing regularly at its treasure auctions 21.
- When a team acquires a soul bone, the recipient must compensate their teammates according to contribution. The academy can lend the necessary Gold Soul Coins interest-free, allowing students to afford the settlement 11.
- The academy provides substantial resources to valued talents. It gives Mu Guiyun nine soul bones for experimentation and offers major incentives during departmental recruitment 23 35.
- Shrek's Inner Court inspection squad regards the elimination of Evil Soul Masters as one of its duties 72.
- Aside from Mu Guiyun, Shrek has produced only three soul masters with ultimate attributes across the last ten thousand years 56.
Reputation and External Relations
- Shrek is repeatedly called the continent's number one academy, particularly for the cultivation of traditional martial souls 55 94.
- It has won every Continental Advanced Soul Master Tournament championship for ten thousand years and enters the current tournament as defending champion 93 94.
- Its Inner Court is prestigious enough that Lu Canglie considers guaranteed Inner Court placement for his grandsons an extraordinary offer 55.
- The Sun Moon Empire views Shrek with a mixture of admiration and rivalry; its academy has repeatedly lost tournament championships to Shrek 55 93.
- Relations with the original three Douluo empires have cooled over time, with the empires increasingly distancing themselves from Shrek due to its power and influence 95.
- Shrek maintains good relations with major empires, sects, and clans, including Mingde Hall, but is the Body Sect's mortal enemy 72.
- Despite Shrek City's reputation as the continent's safest city, low-ranking officers in its Defense Army run a protection-fee scheme targeting ordinary residents 28.
