Background & History
The Tang Sect had already collapsed by the time Tang Ya entered Shrek Academy. Her parents were dead, the sect’s foundation had been stolen, and she initially possessed little money or support. She worked at a restaurant to survive, and later took a maid job for its fifteen-Gold-Soul-Coin monthly pay. Ke En and her daughter had previously taken her in after she arrived in Shrek City penniless and starving. 4 5 24 27
Mu Guiyun became Tang Ya’s desk mate and one of her first close friends at the academy. His meals, money, food gifts, and other acts of support helped her through her poverty, though she often attempted to conceal her need with playful acting or shameless requests. 5 7 24
Tang Ya retained a strong desire to restore the Tang Sect and avenge her parents. At the grave she made for them in a bamboo forest, she vowed to reach a level where she could take revenge herself. Her insecurity over her talent and her feelings for Mu Guiyun later made her vulnerable to a mysterious voice calling itself “The Emperor.” 46 48
Following the voice into a hidden cave, Tang Ya accepted a black-purple scythe inheritance. The resulting surge of hatred transformed her martial soul into Dark Blue Silver Grass, formed a scythe mark on her forehead, and rapidly elevated her cultivation beyond Level 30. Within her newly accessible Spirit Consciousness Sea, she encountered the inheritance’s phantom mentor: Bibi Dong of ten thousand years ago, whom Tang Ya calls Teacher Dong’er. 49 50
Two years later, Tang Ya used the Tang Sect’s exemption quota to enroll Huo Yuhao as the sect’s first disciple in four years. She later earned a place on Shrek Academy’s reserve team for the Continental Advanced Soul Master Tournament. 57 86 87
Appearance
Tang Ya is a black-haired young woman with an expressive face and a noticeably lively manner. Her clothing has varied with circumstance, from a pink maid uniform during her financial hardship to fitted black clothing after her transformation and advancement. 24 57 87
- Often carries herself with playful confidence, hands on her hips or clinging to Mu Guiyun’s arm.
- A black scythe mark can appear on her forehead after accepting the inheritance. 49 76
- Her transformed martial soul and combat aura manifest as black vines, thorns, and blood-red roses. 49 86
Personality
Tang Ya is candid, lively, and thick-skinned, particularly around people she trusts. She loves good food, quickly grows excited over Gold Soul Coins, and treats financial “gambling” as an investment when she believes she knows the outcome. 5 25 31 85
She is also fiercely proud of her position as Tang Sect Sect Master. Although she recognizes her former lack of talent, she refuses to abandon her sect or her revenge. Her grief, inferiority toward exceptional geniuses, and fear of being left behind by Mu Guiyun were central to her decision to accept the scythe’s power. 5 48 50
After gaining Dark Blue Silver Grass, Tang Ya becomes notably more ruthless in battle. She frightens other students with her black aura and scythe, but insists that she is not an Evil Soul Master because she does not harm innocents for pleasure or gain. 86 92 95
