Background / History

Decades before the main story, Xian Lin'er was Yan Shaozhe's lover. Their relationship ended after Yan Shaozhe was unfaithful with Cai Mei'er, whom he later married. In anger, Xian Lin'er married Qian Duoduo—who had long admired her—but their marriage remained nominal; they lived in separate rooms and had no physical intimacy. 20

Xian Lin'er had watched Mu Guiyun grow up and sought to recruit him into the Spirit Tool Department. Their first shown negotiation centers on his demand for fifty thousand tons of rare metals, which she initially rejects as impossible. 1 At the Sea God Pavilion meeting, she argues that his elemental talent and affinity for metals could make him a Level 9 Soul Engineer; Mu ultimately chooses the Spirit Tool Department, giving her a rare victory over Yan Shaozhe's Spirit Department. 35 36

She later teaches Mu the principles behind merging a martial soul's origin, a compatible soul bone, and a Soul Tool—knowledge that directly informs his Soul-Guided Armor experiments. 20 21 After becoming involved with Mu in secret, her attachment to him increasingly affects her conduct, including jealousy over his other relationships and an unauthorized visit to him in Star Luo City. 38 52 112

Appearance

Xian Lin'er is a beautiful woman who appears far younger than her actual age of nearly a century. In later appearances, she begins wearing elaborate clothing and elegant makeup rather than focusing solely on Soul Tool research. 1 52

Despite her stern reputation, she is an enthusiastic mentor when discussing Soul Tools. Mu's interest in her Green Flame Dragon Spear and its construction visibly excites her, and she spends an entire night explaining advanced fusion theory to him. 20 21

Her confidence does not extend to cooking. Qian Duoduo reacts with panic when she decides to prepare a meal, while Xian Lin'er struggles to distinguish salt from sugar. 20
