Background / History
Teuchi had devoted more than thirty years to ramen and was already known for it when he was young. Tsunade remembers eating at Ichiraku Ramen before leaving Konoha and praises it again on her return 17 18.
When Shen Mo calls his best ramen ordinary compared with food he has eaten elsewhere, Teuchi accepts the challenge of tasting a bowl made by Senzaemon Nakiri. The experience moves him to tears and convinces him that he has much more to learn about cooking 17 18 19. He buys Gourmet Series chests because he wants every customer at Ichiraku Ramen to leave satisfied 19 20.
Teuchi continues buying chests for their unusual ingredients and recipes, eventually receiving a Member Badge. When Shen Mo returns to Ichiraku much later, Teuchi treats the visit as a chance to demonstrate his improved ramen. After Shen Mo critiques it, Teuchi resolves to save for more chests and considers taking apprentices and opening another Konoha branch 21 24 270 272.
Personality
Teuchi takes pride in his cooking but does not refuse criticism. He tells Shen Mo that a chef who will not face challenges cannot improve, and his response to the unfamiliar ramen is to pursue better food rather than defend his own reputation 17 18 19.
His goal is practical as well as ambitious: he wants to serve satisfying meals, earn money through his ramen, and reinvest it in learning to cook better 20 24. He is especially respectful toward Shen Mo, whose chests and feedback have helped him pursue that goal 24 270 272.
