Background / History

Sasuke is the surviving member of the Uchiha clan. He returns to the abandoned Uchiha grounds with Shen Mo and discovers a sealed underground stockpile containing precious metals, jewelry, cash, weapons, and annotated ninjutsu scrolls. He trades the entire cache for strength, treating revenge against Itachi as his overriding goal. 24 27

Shen Mo recommends Swordsmanship after Sasuke cannot identify a weakness in Itachi's taijutsu, ninjutsu, or genjutsu. Sasuke accepts the path because of its promised ability to cut through techniques and defenses with a single strike. 27

His rapid gains make him believe he has surpassed Team 7 and can defeat Kakashi. He attempts to leave the team, but Kakashi defeats him after revealing the difference between purchased strength and genuine battle experience. Shen Mo stops Sasuke from suffering a potentially fatal outcome and introduces a Battle Experience chest series. 31 33 37

Later, Sasuke encounters Itachi at the Uchiha ruins while searching for money. Though still driven by hatred, he approaches the unknown Kisame cautiously and assesses the situation before acting. 191

Personality

Sasuke is intensely driven by revenge. His desire to kill Itachi is strong enough that he is willing to exchange his clan’s remaining wealth and anything else he can offer for power. 24 27

His early swordsmanship gains make him arrogant and impatient. He repeatedly imagines himself defeating Itachi, underestimates Kakashi, and relies on dangerous techniques before mastering their essence. 29 31 35 36
