Background & History

Childhood and Akatsuki

Konan grew up as an orphan in the Rain Village during the Ninja World War. At five years old, she survived on the battlefield alongside Yahiko and Nagato, scavenging ration pills not only for themselves but for other orphans. The three endured their most dangerous period before meeting Jiraiya. 290

Yahiko later founded the Akatsuki Organization, while Nagato gained the power to control the Rain Village. Konan viewed herself as their support rather than the person capable of realizing peace herself. After Yahiko and Nagato died, she was left without direction despite inheriting their shared wish for peace. 291

Shen Mo reveals that he had encountered her during her childhood, placing a blue flower mark on her forehead and telling her to “Live well.” This revelation convinces Konan that he had influenced her life from the beginning. 290
