Overview

The Condensing Qi Realm follows the Blood-Marrow Realm and precedes the Channel-Opening Realm. Its defining feature is the construction and expansion of a dantian, which refines Qi-Blood into True Qi. A martial artist’s combat strength at this realm depends heavily on the amount, quality, and attributes of their True Qi. 35 56

A newly advanced martial artist typically possesses a dantian capable of holding 100 wisps of True Qi. Filling that capacity enables the first dantian expansion and entry into the early stage; ordinary cultivation then proceeds through repeated filling and expansion until 1,000 wisps are reached at Perfection. 35 56

The Vast Dantian Construction Method greatly raises these requirements and rewards. Its users begin with a 500-wisp capacity, reach 1,000 wisps at the early stage and 2,000 wisps at the mid-stage, and can ultimately hold 5,000 wisps at Perfection. 55 56 78 90

Unlike the first three martial realms, which can be advanced through sufficient Qi-Blood and prolonged effort without a manual, the Condensing Qi Realm generally requires a specialized cultivation method. Identifying the meridian pathways needed to construct a dantian is itself an obstacle for practitioners without such instruction. 43

Cultivation Mechanics

Dantian Construction

Dantian construction methods determine the size and properties of a cultivator’s dantian. High-quality methods can create larger dantians and confer special effects. 35 56

• The Vast Dantian Construction Method creates a dantian five times the size of one belonging to a martial artist at the same level. 56

True Qi Quality

True Qi is visible as a faint, mist-like energy when focused upon and may vary in quality. 58

Martial artists who completed tendon tempering and bone forging twice can convert all of their True Qi to mid-grade at Condensing Qi Realm Perfection, while those who completed it three times have a chance to achieve high-grade True Qi. 58

Practitioners who completed tendon tempering and bone forging only once can remain at Perfection and continue polishing their dantian and accumulating True Qi. Even then, they have only a very small chance of converting part of their reserves into mid-grade True Qi. 58

Mu Yang’s initially unusual True Qi was identified as mid-grade True Qi. After constructing his dantian, newly generated low-grade True Qi was automatically compressed and assimilated into his existing mid-grade reserves. 58 78

During this automatic refinement, two low-grade wisps merged into one standard-sized mid-grade wisp. Higher-grade refinement therefore reduces the quantity of usable wisps even as it improves their individual power. Mu Yang later continued using his main dantian to refine low-grade True Qi supplied by higher-realm cultivation methods before storing it in his body apertures. 78 197

High-grade True Qi is exceptionally difficult to create, as its refinement places substantial strain on the dantian and meridians. Mu Yang used the enhanced Crimson Blood Spirit Mushroom to purify 2,000 wisps of mid-grade True Qi into high-grade True Qi after reaching the late Condensing Qi Realm. 89 91

High-grade True Qi resembles dense, heavy mist and produces a faint milky-white shimmer when channeled to the fingertips. Its refinement also strengthens the effects of elemental True Qi. Its rarity remains significant at higher realms: despite Medicine King Valley’s abundant resources, only Xiao Tusi, the Great Offering, and Zhao Linjing had cultivated it. 90 91 240

Attribute-based True Qi has specialized strengths but may be inefficient when used for incompatible arts. Strong Wind True Qi is suited to movement techniques but less effective for hard-body arts, whereas Earth-Breath True Qi improves defensive and hard-body applications but is less suited to movement techniques. 90

Mu Yang can convert his high-grade attribute-less True Qi into the attributes of Dantian Construction Methods he has equipped, retaining its grade while gaining the relevant attribute effect. 90 120

This conversion can be performed with a single thought. His reserves remain based on the neutral nature of the Vast Sea Dantian until he deliberately changes their properties, allowing him to select an attribute appropriate to each technique rather than remain limited to one attribute’s strengths and weaknesses. 90

Compatible attributes also enhance equipment-derived abilities. Wind-attribute True Qi improves Wind Blade and Wind Treading, water-attribute True Qi reduces Flood Dragon Claw’s consumption while increasing its power, and metal-attribute True Qi similarly improves Flowing Gold Claw. 106 159 249

By the time Mu Yang examined the Record of the Destruction of Ten Thousand Techniques, he possessed ten types of True Qi. This versatility gave him a potential foundation for the technique’s later requirement to master True Astral Force of multiple attributes. 264

Dantian Capacity Enhancement

Qi-Storing Crystals can expand a dantian’s True Qi limit in addition to functioning as stores of preloaded True Qi. 158

Transition to Higher Realms

The repeated expansion of the dantian prepares it to supply the pressure needed to open major meridians. A stronger dantian and higher-grade True Qi allow meridians to be opened more quickly. 120

Combat Capability

Even basic True Qi reinforcement can substantially increase physical force. Attaching a wisp of True Qi to a fist adds roughly 100 catties of strength, while a newly entered Condensing Qi Realm martial artist with a full 100 wisps can make attacks exceeding 20,000 jin. 35

Fan Duan’s Soft Bone Cotton Palm can use at most 500 wisps, providing 50,000 jin of additional force with ordinary True Qi. By contrast, a Channel-Opening Realm martial art can mobilize at least 1,000 wisps per move, contributing to the substantial combat gap between the two realms. 55

Condensing Qi Realm practitioners remain vulnerable to unusually powerful ranged monster abilities. Li Xiulian’s five-person team, comprising early-, mid-, and late-stage cultivators, could normally handle an ordinary Fourth Rank beast at Perfection, but was overwhelmed by a Deer Demon whose superior speed and wind blades defeated even the team’s hard-body practitioner. 105
