Kakashi had just finished a mission and dragged his weary body back to the village. His steps were heavy, his eyes filled with fatigue, and his only thought was to get home and get some rest.
Kakashi's home was located in a corner of the village, surrounded by several tall trees. Their branches swayed gently in the breeze, rustling softly. Sunlight filtered through the gaps in the leaves, casting patches of dappled light and shadow.
Just as Kakashi reached his doorstep, he saw Menma sitting there waiting for him.
"Kakashi-sensei, you're finally back! I've been waiting for you for days." Menma's eyes lit up as he ran over.
Kakashi sighed helplessly, his voice laced with exhaustion: "Menma, I just finished a mission. I'm very tired!"
Menma, however, looked determined, his eyes flashing with a fervent light: "Kakashi-sensei, I know you're tired, but I really want to continue learning ninjutsu from you. Look, I've come here every day to wait for you, just so I wouldn't miss the moment you returned."
Watching Menma's persistence, Kakashi felt both helpless and gratified. After all, having such a motivated student was a stroke of luck.
"Alright, Menma, since you're so determined, let's begin. Today, I'll teach you some single-element ninjutsu," Kakashi said.
Menma rubbed his hands together in excitement, his face full of anticipation: "Sounds good, Kakashi-sensei."
Kakashi began to demonstrate Earth Style: Earth-Style Wall. He stood on a patch of open grass, the blades beneath his feet bending slightly under his weight. While calmly forming hand seals, Kakashi said steadily: "Menma, the seal sequence for Earth Style: Earth-Style Wall is Snake-Ram-Horse-Dragon-Rat. Pay attention to your chakra control." As soon as he finished speaking, a thick earthen wall rose slowly from the ground, kicking up dust. Under the sunlight, the wall looked exceptionally solid.
Menma tried to follow the sequence Kakashi had specified, but he failed on his first attempt; the wall only poked out a little before collapsing, raising a small cloud of dust.
Kakashi shook his head and said helplessly: "Yare yare, Menma, is this a bamboo shoot sprouting? Your chakra control needs to be more precise. Try again."
Menma adjusted himself and formed the seals again. This time, the wall rose successfully. Although it wasn't as tall or thick as Kakashi's, it was a success. The wall stood quietly in the breeze, the surrounding grass swaying from the wind generated by its emergence.
Menma looked at Kakashi confidently: "Kakashi-sensei, how was that? I got it on the second try. If I use Multi-Shadow Clone to practice, I'll be able to pull off an Earth-Style Wall just like yours in no time."
Kakashi shook his head with a helpless smile and walked to a more open area without much debris to demonstrate Great Fireball Technique. As he formed the seals, he said: "The seal sequence for Great Fireball Technique is Rat-Dog-Monkey-Tiger-Rabbit-Tiger. This jutsu consumes quite a bit of chakra, so be careful with your control."
With that, a massive fireball erupted from his mouth. The flames roared, the surrounding temperature rose noticeably, and a wave of heat washed over them.
Menma mimicked Kakashi's seal sequence and gathered his chakra. A tiny flame emerged, flickering unsteadily like a candle in the wind.
Kakashi teased: "Menma, that little fireball of yours isn't much to look at. Did all your chakra go into growing taller?"
Menma raised an eyebrow, his eyes showing his refusal to give in: "Kakashi-sensei, this is just the beginning!"
Next, Kakashi went to a small pond to perform Water Style: Water Wall. He stood by the water's edge, his reflection shimmering on the surface. As he formed the seals, Kakashi said: "The seal sequence for Water Wall is Tiger-Snake-Tiger-Snake-Tiger-Snake." Following his words, a wall of water rose from the pond. It sparkled brilliantly in the sunlight, and droplets splashed onto the surrounding grass.
Menma followed the sequence, but the water wall was unstable and vanished after a moment, leaving only a damp patch on the ground.
Kakashi crossed his arms and shook his head: "Yare yare, Menma, your Water Wall looks like it's made of paper."
Menma frowned, readjusted his chakra, and formed the seals again. This time, the Water Wall appeared successfully and held for a while, swaying in the breeze and reflecting the sun like a transparent mirror.
Menma said: "Kakashi-sensei, it's not made of paper this time, is it?"
Kakashi then demonstrated Lightning Style: Lightning Ball. He stood on a patch of dry, cracked earth that had been exposed to the sun for too long. As he formed the seals, Kakashi said: "The seal sequence for Lightning Ball is Rabbit-Dragon-Horse-Tiger-Rabbit."
As the seals were completed, a ball of crackling electricity appeared in Kakashi's hand. It emitted a faint "zapping" sound, and the air around them seemed to hum with a hint of electrical current.
Menma carefully followed the sequence and gathered a small lightning ball. The electricity on it flickered weakly, like a dying star in the night sky.
Kakashi laughed: "Menma, your lightning ball looks like it just woke up. It has no spirit at all."
Menma was so embarrassed he was practically glowing red. He shouted: "Kakashi-sensei!"
Finally, Kakashi went to an open field to perform Wind Style: Air Palm. He stood his ground and said: "The seal sequence for Air Palm is Tiger-Rabbit-Dragon-Snake-Horse-Ram." A powerful gust of wind roared out, causing the surrounding trees to rustle and kicking up dust from the ground.
When Menma tried, the wind wasn't strong, but it had a basic form, only enough to gently sway the grass. Kakashi quipped: "Menma, your wind jutsu feels like you're tickling someone."
Menma was getting annoyed by Kakashi's constant teasing and retorted defiantly: "Kakashi-sensei, just you wait."
And so, Menma decided to use Multi-Shadow Clone to practice these jutsu. He created dozens of shadow clones, each one practicing a different technique.
The shadow clones dispersed to different areas. The clones practicing Earth Style: Earth-Style Wall were in an open field, where walls rose and collapsed repeatedly, filling the air with dust that made the sunlight look hazy.
The clones practicing Great Fireball Technique were in a clearing free of flammable objects, continuously gathering chakra. The power of their small fireballs slowly increased, but the chakra consumption grew as well. The heat of the flames made the air dry and hot, and the ground began to scorch.
The clones practicing Water Style: Water Wall were near the pond, struggling to make the water wall more stable and durable. With each attempt, more water splashed about, the ground became soaked, and their chakra drained rapidly.
Beyond that, Menma also tried to perform Water Wall in areas without water, hoping that one day he could be like Tobirama, who was known as the man who signed a contract with the ocean.
The clones practicing Lightning Style: Lightning Ball were on a patch of dry, sandy ground, constantly adjusting. The electrical light of the balls grew more intense, causing the sand to vibrate under the stimulation of the current, and the chakra consumption reached a significant level.
The clones practicing Wind Style: Air Palm tried to increase the power of the wind. In a patch of grass, the wind grew stronger, blowing the grass every which way, and their chakra reserves were nearly bottomed out.
As time passed, Menma's original body began to feel the effects of excessive chakra depletion, and he started to feel dizzy. But his competitive spirit wouldn't let him stop. The scenery around him seemed to sway, and the sunlight became blinding.
Finally, after a period of high-intensity training, one of Menma's shadow clones successfully performed a Great Fireball Technique with considerable power. The fireball was much larger than before, and the temperature was higher. The flames roared, the air became scorching, and the grass on the ground withered from the heat.
Though Menma's original body was weak from the drain, he looked at Kakashi triumphantly: "Kakashi-sensei, look, I did it."
Kakashi looked at Menma with a hint of gratification: "Menma, your effort is commendable, but you must also pay attention to the rational use of chakra. Over-consuming it is very dangerous."
Menma nodded: "I understand, Kakashi-sensei. I'll be more careful next time."
Menma then dispelled the Multi-Shadow Clones. The moment they vanished, a wave of intense fatigue washed over him. Practicing five different ninjutsu at once was indeed a burden on his body, though still within his limits. He felt his legs go soft, and the world seemed to spin.
"Alright! Let's test the results of this morning's training!" Menma said after catching his breath.
"Fire Style! Great Fireball Technique!" After forming the seals, a massive fireball erupted from Menma's mouth. It surged forward with a powerful heatwave, distorting the air around it. Menma immediately began forming more seals.
But before he could finish, a wave of dizziness hit him, and he dropped to one knee. Gritting his teeth, he forced himself to continue.
"Lightning Style! Lightning Ball!" Five or six lightning balls appeared around Menma, crackling with intense electricity. Although there weren't as many as Kakashi's, they were respectable. As the balls flew off, Menma didn't stop, continuing to form seals.
"Water Style! Water Wall! Wind Style! Air Palm!" A wall of water had just appeared, sparkling in the sunlight, when suddenly the center of the wall was struck by a massive force and blown outward. Finally, Menma used Earth-Style Wall.
As a wall of earth rose, Menma flipped onto its top. Standing there, a gentle breeze blew past, causing his hair and clothes to flutter. He looked back at Kakashi and spoke.
"Kakashi-sensei, how was that? Was I..." Before Menma could finish his sentence, he gasped for air, feeling dizzy. Losing his footing, he tumbled off the wall.
Kakashi was quick to react, stepping forward to catch Menma.
"It seems you've exhausted your chakra. Let's take a break," Kakashi said.
Menma nodded in agreement, and the two headed toward the Akimichi BBQ Restaurant. The scent of grilled meat wafted from the Akimichi BBQ Restaurant, and the interior was bustling with the constant sound of laughter and chatter. Menma didn't forget to send a shadow clone to bring Kushina and Naruto over.
Although Kushina was in an Impure World Reincarnation body and didn't need to eat, she still had to come; after all, it was impossible to leave her home alone.
Over the past few days, Kushina had been teaching Naruto some basic knowledge. In the room where they stayed, sunlight streamed through the window onto a table covered with books.
After these few days, Kushina discovered that although Naruto and Menma were learning similar things, Naruto was far behind Menma in theoretical studies, primarily because he couldn't remember anything.
This made learning a misery for Naruto. Kushina kept him pressed to study these theories; even though it was just review, for Naruto, it felt no different from learning it all for the first time. The room was filled with the sound of Kushina's explanations and Naruto's occasional questions.
Although Naruto was somewhat averse to these theoretical subjects, because it was Kushina teaching him, he enjoyed the process. He was very happy to experience the feeling of being educated by his mother, as it was something he had never experienced before.
