Du Mu didn't care at all about what Nick Fury had to say.
It was just like in a game where an NPC warns that if the player doesn't hurry up, the world will be destroyed, yet the players continue to leisurely mine for ore and collect treasure chests, not taking it seriously at all.
Seeing Du Mu like this, Nick Fury rubbed his temples in frustration.
"In any case, keep a low profile for a while. As it happens, Coulson needs support for a mission in New Mexico. I was originally going to send Hawkeye, who is on leave, but I'll have you go instead."
[NPC Nick Fury has issued a new quest to you] [Quest: Support Coulson] [Objective: Travel to New Mexico, locate Coulson, and assist him in his mission] [Rewards: EXP +1000, S.H.I.E.L.D. Reputation +20, Items *2]
"Understood, sir."
After accepting the mission, Du Mu drove to the desert region of New Mexico that very day.
He quickly found the small temporary base set up by S.H.I.E.L.D. and met with the officer in charge, Coulson.
"Village Chief, long time no see. How come your hairline has receded even further?"
Coulson: "..."
As Nick Fury's capable right-hand man and the recognized workaholic of S.H.I.E.L.D., he had almost no time to rest. He was either executing a mission or on his way to one, to the point where he rarely even saw his cellist girlfriend.
The long-term exhaustion, combined with the unavoidable plight of middle-aged men, had caused his hair to become increasingly sparse.
Coulson just couldn't understand it.
Du Mu grinded through missions even more diligently than he did, so why wasn't this guy losing any hair?
Coulson pretended not to hear the latter part of Du Mu's comment and cut straight to the point: "Not long ago, we detected an Einstein-Rosen Bridge, or wormhole phenomenon, appearing above this area. An extraterrestrial object fell out of it."
Du Mu asked curiously, "What kind of extraterrestrial object is it?"
"It's a hammer!"
Du Mu: "..."
Why did he suddenly start cursing in the middle of a perfectly normal conversation?
Seeing the expression on Du Mu's face, Coulson explained, "I mean the extraterrestrial object is a hammer. Forget it, just come with me."
With that, Coulson led Du Mu into the innermost part of the small base.
Just as Coulson had said, Du Mu saw a hammer—a square, silver hammer that didn't look like anything special.
Coulson said with a serious expression, "According to our tests, no one has been able to lift it so far. Even using a heavy-duty crane, we couldn't shift the hammer even half a millimeter."
"But the strange thing is, it doesn't seem to be because of the hammer's own weight. We even tried digging away the soil beneath it until only a tiny bit remained, yet it still supported the hammer."
"That amazing?"
Du Mu became interested, walked up to the hammer, and grabbed its short handle.
Just as he tried to exert force, the system's voice suddenly rang out.
[You do not meet the requirements to use this equipment] [Usage Requirement: Justice Value ≥ 1000]
"Justice Value?"
Du Mu was a bit surprised.
This was the first time he had seen equipment with usage requirements, and it even required the Justice Value he had only recently unlocked.
Du Mu pulled up his personal attribute panel and found that his Justice Value had already grown to 136.
According to the system logs, these points were gained during his recent missions, where he had inadvertently saved many lives, and by defeating supervillains like Abomination, which also granted a large amount of Justice Value.
"It seems I have quite a bit of potential to be a superhero after all."
Du Mu thought to himself, feeling quite pleased.
As for the Sin Value that was nearing two hundred points, he chose to selectively ignore it.
"What's wrong? Did you discover something?"
Seeing Du Mu gripping the hammer handle in silence for a long time, Coulson couldn't help but ask out of curiosity.
He knew Du Mu wasn't simple; perhaps the guy had noticed some clue.
Du Mu decisively let go of the hammer's handle and nodded, "There are conditions to lifting this hammer. It probably requires someone who is righteous, brave, honest, and responsible. So, it's perfectly normal that you guys can't lift it."
Coulson: "..."
Why does it feel like you're indirectly insulting me?
Afterward, Coulson assigned Du Mu his task: simply keep an eye on the hammer until all their relevant testing work was completed.
The job was quite easy.
Du Mu found a folding lounge chair from somewhere and set it up not far from the hammer.
He lay back leisurely, sipping an unknown beverage while flipping through a comic book, looking for all the world like he was on vacation.
This made the surrounding S.H.I.E.L.D. agents grit their teeth in frustration.
They were already annoyed enough to be working!
Seeing this scene made their fists clench involuntarily!
Night fell.
Heavy rain suddenly began to pour from the sky.
Just as Du Mu was engrossed in his comic book, he heard Coulson's voice come through the communicator.
"Du Mu, someone has broken into the base, and it looks like they're heading in your direction."
"I copy."
Du Mu rose from the lounge chair with reluctance.
He wanted to see which idiot was bold enough to trespass on S.H.I.E.L.D. territory.
Following the sounds of intense fighting and running footsteps, Du Mu soon caught sight of the idiot.
"Oboi?"
Du Mu couldn't help but widen his eyes.
The intruder was a burly, long-haired blond man, his wet hair plastered to his face, looking remarkably similar to a certain actor from his memories.
Hearing Du Mu's words, the burly man retorted loudly, "I am Thor, the great God of Thunder, son of Odin!"
Du Mu chuckled, "If you're the God of Thunder, then I'm Qin Shi Huang."
"Audacious! A mere mortal dares to blaspheme a god!"
Thor was incensed.
He let out a roar and charged forward immediately, swinging his fist toward Du Mu.
It had to be said that his speed was truly astonishing and his strength far surpassed that of an ordinary person; it was no wonder he had managed to break through the perimeter agents' defenses to get here.
However, in Du Mu's eyes, an attack of this level was nothing special.
He didn't even bother to use a skill, simply raising a hand to firmly catch Thor's fist.
"How is this possible?"
Shock was written all over Thor's face.
Even without his divine power, his physique was by no means something a mortal could contend with.
Yet, the person before him had blocked his punch with such ease!
Thor gritted his teeth and exerted all his strength, but he still couldn't break free from Du Mu's grip.
Du Mu looked at Thor's flushed face and asked with interest, "You say you're the God of Thunder, so you must be quite resistant to electricity, right?"
"What is the meaning of this—"
Before Thor could finish his sentence, he felt a violent surge of electricity sweep through his entire body, causing him to convulse uncontrollably.
A few seconds later, his eyes rolled back, and he collapsed stiffly to the ground, wisps of white smoke rising from his body.
Du Mu deactivated Professor Yang's Ring on his finger.
He looked down at the unconscious Thor with disdain, "And they call him the God of Thunder."
