Background and History
Obito is a Konoha chunin and a student of Namikaze Minato alongside Kakashi Hatake and Nohara Rin. At thirteen, he had not yet awakened the Sharingan and lived in a shared building on the outskirts of the Uchiha clan grounds 20 22.
Minato assigns Uchiha Aoba to supervise Obito on missions because of Obito’s habitual lateness. Obito protests and asks for Rin to supervise him instead, making his feelings for her apparent to the others 20 21. Before their deployment to the Iwagakure front, he tells Aoba that he fears confessing to Rin might cost him their friendship. He resolves to tell her how he feels after the war 23.
Obito reaches the departure point early with Aoba and joins Minato’s reinforcements. On the front line, Aoba warns him to set aside his distractions and focus on surviving the coming battle 24 25. Obito and Kakashi coordinate in combat; Kakashi is wounded while shielding him. The experience triggers Obito’s Two-Tomoe Sharingan, though he learns of its awakening only afterward 26 28.
Unknown to Obito, Uchiha Madara selects him as his preferred proxy for the Eye of the Moon Plan because he considers Obito easier to control than Aoba. Madara first orders Tobi to abduct him before the war ends, then considers targeting Rin to lure him after Iwagakure’s surrender disrupts the plan 25 29 30.
Personality
Obito is outspoken and quick to argue with Kakashi, especially when Kakashi mocks his lateness. He also helps elderly people, though Minato stresses that this cannot justify being late for important missions. Rin can calm him almost immediately when their arguments escalate 20 24.
He is far less direct about Rin: he daydreams about a future with her but fears rejection and the loss of their friendship. After Aoba catches him kissing her photograph, Obito’s chief concern is that Rin or Kakashi might find out 21 23.
