The Last Chance

"Another Battle Power of 40,000?!" Turles was stunned. He sensed a sharp surge of energy from behind him and immediately turned around. "R-Raditz?"

Raditz had been powerless to resist just moments ago. How had he gotten back to his feet so quickly, without a single injury? Even more terrifyingly, the Scouter accurately displayed Raditz's current Battle Power: a full 40,000. It was simply unbelievable.

Damn it! Though he did not want to admit it, Turles could not help cursing inwardly.

A thought suddenly flashed through his mind. Had they secretly eaten Sacred Fruit too? No, that was impossible. They had not had the chance. Then why?

Turles' eyes darted around, but he could not make sense of it no matter how hard he thought.

"Surprised?" Raditz asked with an easy smile.

"It's only 40,000 Battle Power. You're still far below me!"

"Not for long. Take this!"

As he spoke, Raditz assumed his stance and thrust both hands forward. Shining Impact Wave! Energy poured endlessly from his hands, its speed and power rising to an entirely new level.

At that moment, Goku and Vegeta floated into the air and flew toward the spot at the top of the Sacred Tree where the fruit had grown!

"Damn it! You're trying to steal my fruit!"

Turles noticed their objective at once and flew into a rage. A powerful aura erupted around him as he dodged the Shining Impact Wave. Ignoring Raditz completely, he shot after Goku and Vegeta instead! If they ate the Sacred Fruit from Earth's Sacred Tree too, things would become troublesome.

At full speed, Turles saw that damned Vegeta and Kakarot right before him. His eyes nearly spat fire as he roared, "Stop!"

With a sharp whoosh, Turles burst forward at extreme speed. The blaze produced by air friction trailed behind him in a long arc.

Just then, a flicker of light flashed past behind him, and Turles' vision blurred.

Raditz had appeared.

He blocked Turles' path, one hand stretched straight out with all five fingers spread wide. His long hair fluttered slightly, and his face was as hard as iron.

Then came the heavy sound of an impact slamming into the ground—Bang!

Turles was blasted away by the force of Raditz's Ki!

"Impossible!" Turles cried as he flew back into the sky. His expression was hideous and his posture disheveled. When he saw the red aura around Raditz, he could not stop himself from trembling.

He refused to believe Raditz still had the potential to rise to a level stronger than his own. He had eaten a Sacred Fruit! Yet that last blow could not lie. He had truly been defeated.

The Scouter issued several warnings, then let out a shrill, piercing screech before exploding with a boom.

The explosion sent cold sweat pouring down Turles' face once more.

"Looks like your Scouter can't measure Battle Power above 100,000 either." Raditz curled his lips and attacked again without wasting any time.

The two collided. Turles struck first, hooking out with a kick as spiraling currents of air wrapped around his leg, carrying terrifying force. Raditz neither dodged nor retreated, taking the kick head-on. His solid muscles withstood the blow. His body shuddered, but his expression did not change.

Immediately afterward, Raditz grabbed Turles' leg and yanked him close. His fist shot out in a blur, smashing squarely into Turles' face. Red blood sprayed through the air, filling it with a sickly sweet scent.

Turles flew backward faceup, his mind in chaos. His vision went black for an instant before the world began spinning. The immense gap between them had already panicked him. He had desperately eaten the fruit, yet it was still useless!

The only way was... Turles forcibly steadied himself and shouted as he flew high into the sky.

The sky was covered by the enormous shadow of the tree, though specks of light still shone through its gaps. Turles faced upward and blasted open a patch of shade. His eyes absorbed the light above as his pupils gradually scattered. His eyes reddened, then turned white. His body stopped in midair and began swelling without end. Sharp fangs protruded from either side of his mouth, and a savage expression appeared on his face!

He still had his tail! The Artificial Moon affected him and could transform him into a Great Ape. Turles did not like the Great Ape transformation. It was ugly, and he could not fully control it. But if he did not want to lose, he could only take the risk.

"Stop!" Raditz cried in alarm, firing several energy spheres in a wild bombardment.

In his x4 Kaio-ken state, his Battle Power had already reached 160,000. Turles' Ki was only half as strong as his. Those energy blasts should have been enough to blow him away, right?

To be safe, Raditz did not stop. He continued firing wave after wave, causing massive tremors in the sky and making the earth shake.

Smoke filled the heavens and earth. Suddenly, a body as tall as a hill burst through the dense haze and dropped from the air. Its shadow covered a vast stretch of land, and its roar shook the sky. Its furry body had taken every energy blast without a scratch. It stood upon the earth, towering like a mountain.

"What powerful Ki!" Raditz wiped away a bead of sweat in secret.

After transforming into a Great Ape, Turles smiled faintly. He had regained the feeling of being the victor. Even after transforming, his immense strength had not robbed him of his reason. He ignored Raditz, leaped into the air, and continued toward Goku and Vegeta.

The Great Ape transformation was said to multiply Battle Power tenfold, but it actually varied from person to person. Sometimes the increase fluctuated. Still, even if the tenfold boost was discounted, Turles was now strong enough to fight anyone.

At present, he was the strongest. As long as he kept the others from getting their hands on the Sacred Fruit, he could plant more after wiping out these troublesome obstacles.

"You won't steal my fruit! I'll destroy it myself!" Turles roared, opening his mouth wide and firing a white beam of light.

Carrying immense energy, the beam swept across the area and engulfed nearly the entire top of the Sacred Tree, turning it into a vast sea of white. Dust and smoke surged through the sky as every Sacred Fruit was destroyed.

Goku and Vegeta had each picked a ripe fruit. Though Vegeta hated this method, a powerful enemy stood before them, and he did not want to fall too far behind Raditz. In the end, he chose to eat it.

Just after they finished eating, a thunderous roar and blinding white light swept over them from behind. In their desperation, they flew aside to evade it. Yet the impact was too powerful and its range too vast. There was nowhere to escape. They could only hide behind thick branches, raise both hands before them, and resist with all their strength.

When the light faded, a burnt smell rose from their bodies, with smoke drifting from all over them. They had used Ki to protect their bodies and clothing, so although their upper bodies were bare, their pants remained intact.

Fortunately, Turles had been forced to reduce the attack's power in order to expand its range. Otherwise, the two of them would have been in grave danger.

Raditz stared at Great Ape Turles and rapidly considered a strategy. There were no Senzu Beans left. The Sacred Fruit had nearly all been destroyed, and there was probably no time to search for surviving fruit or wait for another batch to grow. Besides, Earth likely could not wait any longer.

To win, they had to cut off his tail. But Turles was extremely cautious. Would they really get a chance?

Raditz glanced downward and clenched his fists.

Turles started at 35,000, then reached 82,000 after eating Sacred Fruit.

Vegeta was originally at 18,000, rose to 20,000 after becoming enraged, and reached 61,000 after eating the fruit.

Goku was at 12,000 and reached 56,000 after eating it.

Raditz was at 20,000, then reached 40,000 after recovering from near death.

There were many explanations for Turles' Battle Power changes in the movie, but it really felt like the plot simply demanded it, or like the power scaling had collapsed as badly as it did in Super. After all, the movies were parallel worlds. As long as the villains got huge power boosts before the protagonists made a comeback, it was fun to watch.

Here, Turles was set up as trash. He really had eaten quite a lot of fruit, and Earth's soil was fertile and rich in nutrients, so eating one Earth fruit made his strength soar. Still, the fruit's effects were limited. They were not enough for him to completely overwhelm x10 Kaio-ken.
