Lawrence held a hair tie between his lips as he used both hands to comb Fujimaru Ritsuka's hair.
He held the jeweled comb in midair, where it naturally vanished, then quickly tied up Fujimaru Ritsuka's hair.
"Come here, Mash." Lawrence conjured a new jeweled comb and beckoned to Mash.
"Huh? Ah, yes!" Mash was somewhat dazed, but upon hearing Lawrence call her, she reflexively ran over.
In truth, both Fujimaru Ritsuka and Mash could tie their own hair, but they had grown used to letting Lawrence do it for them. For one thing, Lawrence was quite skilled at styling hair. For another... this counted as one of the few moments of leisure in life at Chaldeas.
As humanity's last Master and that Master's Servant, Fujimaru Ritsuka and Mash did not have easy lives.
Fujimaru Ritsuka had to undergo extensive training every day—improving his physical fitness and magical energy capacity, learning how to fight alongside Servants, and handling various other minor matters, such as horseback riding and driving lessons.
As for Mash, aside from occasionally training with Fujimaru Ritsuka, she also had to assist with Chaldeas's daily operations.
Lawrence had once taken the time to give Mash a full-body examination, but he had found nothing unusual. Mash was undoubtedly an extremely advanced artificial being. Whether it was her lifespan or anything else, she was no different from an ordinary human.
That should have been the case.
However, through other means of observation and by questioning Roman, Lawrence discovered that Mash's lifespan... had been drastically reduced.
Reduced to the point where she might have less than a year of her natural lifespan remaining.
"So that's why Leonardo had been unwilling to cooperate with Chaldeas from the beginning, and why Galahad chose to hide away, only compromising once humanity itself was in crisis.
