Background / History

Hestia arrived in Li Yu's world through the Dungeon. Her presence and divine power caused the Dungeon to spawn monsters in abnormal numbers, triggering a stampede that pursued her. Shizuka Hiratsuka carried her through the Dungeon while clearing the pursuing monsters, bringing her to safety on the upper floors. 64

After realizing she was no longer in Orario, Hestia tested her power and discovered that she could use divine power in this world without being returned to Heaven. She also found that her connection to the Heavens had been cut off. 65

She immediately attempted to recruit Li Yu into her Familia, repeatedly pursuing him despite his refusal. Li Yu and Asuna eventually accepted membership on the condition that Li Yu would act as captain, Hestia would not issue orders recklessly, and she would use her connection to Hephaestus to secure equipment support. 66 78

Before establishing the Familia, Hestia negotiated an agreement with the authorities in Li Yu's world. They permitted her to move freely and supported the creation of her Familia, provided she did not cause trouble and offered assistance when necessary. In return, she would grant Falna to Li Yu's entire class and eventually take them to Orario for training. Li Yu accepted the captaincy after learning of this arrangement. 76

Hestia granted Falna to Li Yu, Asuna, and their classmates, enabling the group to gain strength through monster combat. She later returned with them to Orario, registered the Hestia Familia using their school crest as its emblem, and helped establish its manor base. 77 79 85 86

Her friendship with Hephaestus helped the newly established Familia obtain equipment at half price. Hestia assisted Li Yu in requesting the discount and gathered the members to select properly fitted armor. Later, with Li Yu's approval, she secured an alliance with the Hephaestus Familia and brought smiths, including Tsubaki, to help with forging and repairs in exchange for opportunities to learn magic. 87 88 135 136

As the Familia expanded, Hestia recruited local members. Bell Cranel was brought into the Familia and given a local Falna before he regained consciousness; Hestia later apologized for the underhanded method and formally welcomed him. Haruhime Sanjouno also joined the Familia after being removed from the Ishtar Familia. 124 125

This recruitment began at Li Yu's request, since the otherworldly members would eventually leave and the Familia needed a local foundation. Hestia initially felt distressed by the possibility of their departure but agreed to search for promising newcomers rather than established adventurers seeking to change Familias. She personally identified Bell, while Nangong Natsuki and Yor brought Haruhime to her. 117 124 129

Hestia publicly warned Orario's gods that Li Yu's world contained powerful God Slayers, hoping to deter them from provoking her otherworldly Familia members. 101 When Apollo targeted Li Yu during the Feast of the Gods, she shielded Li Yu and openly opposed Apollo. 139

Apollo subsequently attacked Li Yu and Hestia, and Li Yu killed him and absorbed his Divine Power. Hestia was shocked by the incident, which led to the otherworldly students being teleported away and the Familia's plans in Orario being interrupted. Loki accompanied Hestia back to the Familia residence to comfort her, despite their habitual rivalry. Hestia later made preparations to leave and visited Loki, Hephaestus, and the others before returning to Li Yu's world. 140 141 146 340

After Li Yu's group grew beyond reliance on conventional Falna, Hestia modified the blessing system to update statuses automatically. She later accepted work as a librarian and became deeply absorbed in the library's collection. 161 168 229

During the same period, Li Yu designated Bell as the Familia's future second captain and asked Hestia to train him accordingly. She accepted this succession plan despite feeling saddened that Li Yu could not remain captain indefinitely. She also approved arrangements for Bell and Haruhime to attend school and catch up with the knowledge of Li Yu's world. 161 168

Hestia continued granting and maintaining Falna for new students. She visited the group to bless Shikimori and the other new members, later updated the class's statuses during an evening reunion, and eventually agreed to grant Falna to Zhang Li's new class. Even when the older members' blessings had begun disappearing, she remained delighted by the prospect of an ongoing connection to the Special Class through successive recruits. 174 229 297 298

Li Yu later entrusted Index to Hestia's care. Hestia recognized Index's unusual potential and wanted to give her Falna, but Li Yu stopped her because he had other arrangements for Index. This prompted Hestia to express frustration that her increasingly powerful followers no longer needed her blessings. Li Yu reassured her that their loyalty was not dependent on Falna and proposed rebuilding the Hestia Familia in the original Dungeon world under Bell's leadership. Hestia enthusiastically accepted and initially intended to accompany Bell back. 340

The eventual arrangement sent Bell back without Hestia to rebuild the Familia. After Li Yu returned from a later journey, Hestia visited him with Index and invited him to inspect Bell's progress. The three traveled to Orario, where Bell had recruited young people from Li Yu's world as well as developed the Familia locally. Many of the newcomers were relatives of upperclassmen familiar with Hestia and the Special Class. Appearance

Hestia is a small-statured goddess whose youthful appearance often causes others to treat her like a child despite her immense age and divine status. 79 101

Personality

Hestia is enthusiastic, emotionally expressive, and highly persistent. Li Yu's repeated refusals only made her more determined to recruit him, and she was thrilled by the prospect of bringing an entire group of high-level followers back to Orario. 66 79

She initially lacked practical preparation for leading a large Familia, having not considered housing, food, equipment, or funding. Faced with Li Yu's demands, she readily accepted his leadership in exchange for his promise to remain with the Familia. 78

Despite her impulsiveness, Hestia is protective of her followers. She warned Orario's gods not to threaten people from Li Yu's world, supported Li Yu against Apollo, and remained concerned when Li Yu discussed becoming a God Slayer. 101 139 162

She is also curious and adaptable. After being assigned as a librarian, she became intensely devoted to reading and learning. 168 229

Hestia is proud of her Familia and can be possessive about its members. She objected immediately when Hephaestus offered Li Yu a future captaincy in her own Familia, and she took pleasure in her friend's envy of the talented followers she had recruited. Her rivalry with Loki likewise motivates her to boast about her members' levels and achievements. 87 129 475

Although she can behave impulsively, she recognizes when her actions are questionable. She initially hesitated to give the unconscious Bell Falna, asking whether they were taking advantage of him, before allowing her desire to secure his talent to prevail. She subsequently apologized to him without denying that the recruitment had been dishonorable. 125

Her attachment to her followers also makes her vulnerable to feelings of uselessness. She was pleased by their growth but became frustrated when Li Yu's Falna disappeared and the other original members approached the same point. Li Yu's reassurance and the prospect of rebuilding the Familia with Bell restored her enthusiasm and gave her a renewed purpose. 340

Her fear of God Slayers gradually becomes less restrictive. When Li Yu later hoped hostile gods would confront him so that he could absorb them, Hestia remained concerned but supported the visit to Orario on the condition that he did not initiate the conflict. 408
