Qiusheng stared at the giant gorilla pinned in place by the Mystic Dao Seal, his teeth aching with frustration.
There was really nothing he could do to it right now. He could suppress it with the Mystic Dao Seal, but when it came to actually killing the thing, Qiusheng found himself coming up short.
There was no helping it. The creature was simply too tough. His strongest move at the moment was the combination of Lightning Bolt Fist and Palm Thunder, yet even that wasn't enough to kill it.
With no other choice, Qiusheng could only keep it occupied and wait for reinforcements to arrive.
Half an hour passed, and the magic power in Qiusheng's body was nearly depleted.
Uncle Nine finally arrived, a little late. Seeing his master holding the Jingzhen Sword, Qiusheng nearly burst into tears.
"Master, quick! Help me activate the Mystic Dao Seal. I'm almost out of magic power."
Seeing his apprentice drenched in sweat, Uncle Nine didn't dare waste any time. He reached out and took the Mystic Dao Seal from Qiusheng's hand.
The moment the seal landed in Uncle Nine's hand, the golden light erupting from it grew even more powerful.
It not only became thicker, but seemed to shine even brighter, too.
That was the difference between a Human Master and an Earth Master. The very same magical artifact wielded by two people at different levels had vastly different power.
The giant gorilla was now on its knees, clutching its head and howling in agony.
It looked as if Uncle Nine could kill the gorilla just by holding the Mystic Dao Seal, without Qiusheng needing to land a finishing blow!
But as far as Qiusheng was concerned, not going in for the kill? You've got to be kidding me.
He immediately took the Jingzhen Sword from Uncle Nine, poured the last of his magic power into it, and charged toward the gorilla.
"Vrooom!"
Amid a ringing sword cry, Qiusheng brought the blade down and slashed the gorilla across the head.
"Splurt!"
The blade sank into flesh. His slash cut into the gorilla's skull, but only about an inch deep.
Even so, that strike sent the gorilla into a frenzy.
The gorilla, sensing that its life was in danger, suddenly opened its gaping maw. A bead about the size of an infant's fist flew out.
As soon as it appeared, boundless gray light erupted from it and clashed with the golden radiance of the Mystic Dao Seal, briefly freeing the gorilla.
But before the gorilla could do anything, Qiusheng's second strike came hurtling toward it.
This time, he didn't slash. He thrust the sword deep into the wound he had just made.
"Splurt."
The Jingzhen Sword sank even deeper, disappearing up to the hilt. Qiusheng twisted it, then pulled it free, sending a spray of red and white matter into the air.
The gorilla finally crashed heavily to the ground, utterly lifeless.
"Ding! Congratulations, host. You have slain a five-hundred-year-old black gorilla and gained 900 Exorcism Points."
As the system notification rang out, Qiusheng collapsed heavily to the ground, panting raggedly.
This had undoubtedly been the hardest battle he had fought since transmigrating.
In terms of how difficult it was to kill, this five-hundred-year-old gorilla could definitely rival the likes of a Bronze-Armored Zombie.
"Master, thank goodness you got here in time. Otherwise, your apprentice would've been eaten alive."
Qiusheng watched as his master hurried over, first picking something up from the ground before coming to his side. He couldn't help complaining.
"Hmph. You brat, how dare you challenge a five-hundred-year-old demon beast with the cultivation of a Human Master? You really don't value your life."
Looking at his apprentice in such an exhausted state, Uncle Nine felt a jumble of emotions.
After all, a five-hundred-year-old demon beast was equivalent to an Earth Master in the cultivation world.
And his disciple, a mere novice Human Master, had managed to suppress a great demon with five hundred years of cultivation. He was an unprecedented prodigy, especially when it came to spell combat.
Thinking back on how quickly this disciple had made him see him in a new light, it had taken barely a month or two for him to change so much. No one would believe it if they heard the story.
Of course, Uncle Nine had his own suspicions about what had happened to Qiusheng. He believed his disciple must have had some sort of fortuitous encounter. But since Qiusheng hadn't said anything, he wouldn't ask. As long as Qiusheng continued to uphold the righteous path, Uncle Nine wouldn't interfere.
"Master, I didn't want to, either. It was just that things were urgent. If I hadn't stepped in, Ren Wei's men might have been killed."
After briefly explaining, Qiusheng rose to his feet with Uncle Nine's help. Just then, Ren Wei arrived with his men.
They stared at Qiusheng, standing unsteadily with a sword in hand, and at the dead gorilla sprawled on the ground. Every one of them drew a sharp breath.
Having faced the gorilla head-on, they knew better than anyone just how terrifying it was.
Their guns hadn't been able to do a thing to the monster, yet someone had cut it down with a sword?
The sight before them made them trust Uncle Nine and his apprentice even more. Ren Wei in particular, seeing how exhausted Qiusheng was, immediately called over one of his men and told him to carry Qiusheng back to the Public Mortuary so he could rest.
But as soon as the man reached Qiusheng, he was sent away.
Qiusheng shook off Uncle Nine's support and took a couple of deep breaths. The hollow feeling in his body soon vanished completely.
It had to be said: at that moment, the benefits of his Earth Spirit Body truly shone.
Whether it was drawing power from the earth to replenish his depleted magic power during a fight, or
quickly recovering after battle,
either of those powerful supportive abilities left Qiusheng thoroughly satisfied.
And so, with no one to support him, Qiusheng followed the others and soon returned to the Public Mortuary.
All along the way, Uncle Nine kept looking at Qiusheng with a strange expression.
Given his perception, how could he possibly have failed to notice the change in Qiusheng's constitution?
It was just that there were too many people around, so he wouldn't ask outright. He planned to probe indirectly once they were back at the Public Mortuary.
"Senior Brother, are you all right?"
"Brother Sheng, are you hurt?"
They were still some distance from the Public Mortuary when Ren Tingting and Wencai suddenly came to meet them.
It turned out that when Ren Wei and the others had returned to ask for help, they had alarmed everyone at the Public Mortuary. Ren Tingting and Wencai, deeply worried, had come out to see whether they could meet the others on their way back.
