Its enhanced Petrification helped it withstand the Heavenly Tribulation, and it became a Demon Lord and an additional Spirit Transformation combatant for Lin Chang'an's side.

Background

The Green-Horned Ox was auctioned as a high-grade-bloodline cub at Green Bamboo Mountain Market. Although it matured quickly—reaching adulthood in roughly ten years—it was considered costly to raise because it required high-quality spirit herbs every day and ordinarily lived only seventy to eighty years. Lin Chang'an considered it suitable because he possessed unused beast-raising herbs left behind by the Zhou family, then bought it for 930 Spirit Stones. 49

Lin raised the ox from the Qi Refining stage, investing heavily in spirit herbs, fruits, pills, monster cores, armor, and breakthrough resources. Its second-rank breakthrough was supported by Premium Beast Spirit Pills and two Heavenly Spirit Fruits. 85 86 It subsequently accompanied him into the poisonous regions of the Cloud Mist Mountain Range, where Lin's Evergreen Mana neutralized toxins and healed its injuries. 122 124 131

While Lin was in seclusion, the ox swallowed a jade bottle containing Fusang Tree essence. The resulting black qi mutated its bloodline, causing prolonged lethargy but dramatically strengthening its body, mana, hide, and horns. 267 268 The mutation ultimately led to its Petrification divine ability upon its third-rank breakthrough. 291

The initial exposure was dangerous: Lin found the ox covered in blood, maddened, and suffering injuries caused from within by the mysterious black qi. Later, under controlled testing, purified black qi instead nourished its body and strengthened its mana without backlash. Lin suspected that the substance might be a higher-grade form of Demonic Qi, although its precise nature was not yet certain. 267 269

After becoming a fourth-rank Humanoid Transformation Great Demon, the ox became a Sacred Beast of the Spirit Control Sect. Its transformation was publicly celebrated, strengthening the sect's prestige throughout the Dao Protection Alliance. 469

Despite its mutation and plentiful nourishment, the ox encountered increasingly apparent bloodline limitations at higher realms. Its first attempt at the fourth-rank mid-stage failed, but caused little vitality loss and loosened the bottleneck. It later resumed tempering its foundation and successfully advanced, with the sect planning a joint celebration for it and Cheng Qianshan's Nascent Soul Formation. 544 581 584 657

Following its advancement to the fourth-rank late-stage, the Green Ox fought on the front lines for years. The combat left its skin and horns marked by Magic Treasures and gave it a markedly heavier baleful aura, while its Petrification bloodline and Lin's continued support made it a renowned battlefield combatant. 711

Lin later sought a suitable cultivation technique and Spirit Transformation resources for the ox at Bingjin Mountain Market and the Demon Race Market. Before its breakthrough attempt, the ox consumed the heart of a Spirit Transformation-level Petrification Demon Dragon, strengthening both its bloodline and divine ability. 712 713 715 It subsequently succeeded in entering the Spirit Transformation realm. 716

The technique Lin obtained was the Ox Demon Great Strength Art, exchanged from Peacock Princess for five Buddhist and Daoist scriptures. He also acquired a nine-thousand-year-old stone spirit flower alongside the Demon Dragon heart. Both resources possessed petrifying earth-attribute properties particularly suited to the ox's mutated bloodline. 713 714

Its Spirit Transformation breakthrough succeeded on its second attempt, with Lin and Jin Feng standing guard. News of the advancement attracted cultivators and factions seeking to pledge themselves to Lin in Blazing Snow City and prompted other powers to reassess his influence. After stabilizing its cultivation, the ox accompanied Lin and Fairy Ice Butterfly to Bingjin Mountain Market, where other Spirit Transformation cultivators welcomed it as an equal. 716

Appearance

Before its second-rank breakthrough, the Green-Horned Ox had yellowish-brown fur. It grew progressively larger and more imposing as its cultivation advanced, while its mutation introduced unusual coloration and demonic markings.

  • Second-rank fur became glossy and gained pale-purple streaks; its body grew larger than Lin Chang'an. 86
  • Its single horn can regrow after being broken. 140
  • Its mutation gradually produced black demonic patterns beneath its hide and fur. 379
  • At the third-rank, it could alter its body size; its full true form was nearly ten zhang long, and it could walk through the air on wind-gathering hooves. 291 300
  • In humanoid form, it is a zhang-tall, iron-tower-like Green Ox Demon with curved black horns, cyan steel-like bristles, copper-bell eyes, and a thick beard. 468
  • By the fourth-rank mid-stage, it can assume a ten-zhang ox form. 595
  • After years of battlefield combat, its skin and green horns bore numerous marks left by combat Magic Treasures, and it carried a visibly stronger air of baleful qi. 711
  • After reaching Spirit Transformation, it manifested a stony spiritual radiance. 716

Personality

The Green-Horned Ox is simple-minded, fawning, and intensely food-motivated. It eagerly seeks Spirit Fruits, spirit herbs, and monster cores, often forgetting its grievances as soon as it receives a reward. 86 124 298

It is loyal to Lin Chang'an despite fear, pain, and danger. It obeys orders in the Cloud Mist Mountain Range, carries Lin through the miasma even while injured, and remained at the verge of breakthrough for half a year while Lin was in seclusion. 68 131 288

Although it becomes ferocious in battle, its lack of restraint can destroy valuable prey materials. 128 After attaining humanoid form, it retained its old habits and preferred reverting to its original body to eat Spirit Fruits. 468 469

At its Humanoid Transformation, its exceptionally low Killing Intent and gentle temperament contrasted with its intimidating appearance. Long-term cleansing with Lin's Mystic Heaven Mana had purified its demon power, and its easygoing behavior made it an unusually manageable Sacred Beast. It showed no dissatisfaction with remaining Lin's subordinate after transformation. 468 469

Its simplicity does not prevent occasional cunning. In combat, it can feint with its axe before unexpectedly firing white light from its mouth. Outside battle, it learned to trade unwanted prey remains for Spirit Stones and materials rather than waste them, although it had become selective about eating the cores, organs, and best meat. Lin regarded it as steadier and more obedient than Jin Feng when entrusted with guarding a sea territory. 481 511

As its cultivation and experience increased, the Green Ox learned to exercise restraint in the politically dangerous Bingjin Mountain Market. Its years of frontline combat also gave it more of the bearing of a Humanoid Transformation Great Demon, though it remains habitually straightforward and naïve around Lin Chang'an and the Jin Feng. 711 712

The ox is sensitive about comparisons with its exceptionally talented companions. It repeatedly feels aggrieved when Lin measures its cultivation against the Golden Flame Divine Phoenix or other extraordinary beings, since its own progress is outstanding among comparable beasts. Even after reaching Spirit Transformation, it expressed frustration that Petrification lacked the clear attribute-countering advantages of some other abilities; Jin Feng rebuked it for overlooking the technique's combined offensive and defensive usefulness. 357 425 780

Abilities & Skills

Immense Physical Strength

The ox specializes in direct charges and head-on combat.

  • Its charge can shatter a second-tier centipede's shell, uproot or break ancient trees, and pin prey to the ground. 124
  • A head-on collision can send a Foundation Establishment Middle Stage cultivator flying. 124
  • Its raw strength exceeded ordinary quasi-third-rank beasts even before its third-rank breakthrough. 268
  • It rammed back a False Core cultivator's Great Seal and withstood his subsequent self-detonation while helping rescue Sword Servant. 299
  • As a fourth-rank Great Demon, it excels at storming cities and seizing fortified positions. 469
  • Its explosive strength surpasses Lin Chang'an's, though Lin has greater endurance. 478
  • Its stamina is nevertheless outstanding among demonic beasts; in a fourth-rank battle, it began reversing an initial disadvantage after its opponents' opening burst of power subsided. 481
  • By the fourth-rank late-stage, it ranked among the foremost combatants in the Nascent Soul realm and had extensive frontline battle experience. 711

Divine-Sense-Obscuring Mist

Upon reaching the second-rank, it gained the ability to exhale white mist that obscures divine sense. 86

  • The mist can conceal the ox's movements from ordinary divine-sense detection.
  • Its later mutated mist can petrify nearby vegetation into powder while it sleeps. 282

Petrification

Its defining mutated earth-attribute divine ability emerged with its third-rank breakthrough. 291

  • Petrifies mana and weakens incoming attacks before they strike its body. 291
  • Allows it to weaken attacks through Petrification and then smash them apart with its physical strength, expanding its offensive methods as well as its defense. 291
  • Can petrify and annihilate large numbers of lesser Yin Spirits. 315
  • Creates a powerful defensive barrier, making its mana defense comparable to a same-rank Black Water Turtle. 393
  • Can turn everything touched by its white mist to stone and form a massive protective screen during tribulation. 468
  • Enhanced its defensive potential substantially, though its physical defense remains slightly below a Black Water Turtle's. 393
  • Consuming the heart of a Spirit Transformation-level Petrification Demon Dragon further enhanced the power of its divine ability and mutated bloodline before its Spirit Transformation breakthrough. 715
  • After reaching Spirit Transformation, it displayed a stony spiritual radiance associated with its strengthened Petrification power. 716
  • Its enhanced Petrification helped it withstand the Heavenly Tribulation during its successful second Spirit Transformation attempt. 716
  • At Spirit Transformation, the ox described Petrification as an enhancement of the earth element rather than an ability with frequent natural countering opportunities. Jin Feng emphasized its potential for weakening or controlling enemies and reinforcing a properly tempered body; the ox's complaint did not establish a new absolute limit on the ability. 780

Ox Demon Great Strength Art

Lin Chang'an obtained the first layer of the Ox Demon Great Strength Art from Peacock Princess in exchange for five Buddhist and Daoist scriptures. It is an ancient, bloodline-based Body Refining technique suited to the Green-Horned Ox's constitution and regarded as possessing considerable long-term potential. Further layers would require additional exchanges. 713

  • The ox recognized the technique's potential and expressed gratitude to Lin for obtaining it. 713
  • The Petrification Demon Dragon heart contained enough energy to support initial success in the art and establish a thoroughly solid foundation; this was part of its value beyond simply assisting a realm breakthrough. 714

Flight and Mount Capability

After reaching the third-rank, the ox gained the ability to fly.

  • Walks through the air by gathering wind beneath its hooves. 300
  • Can carry several Core Formation cultivators at high speed without affecting them. 354
  • Serves as Lin Chang'an's mount during expeditions, market visits, and sect travel. 124 300 308
  • Can assist in underwater hunting, making it a useful partner for Jin Feng, whose combat ability is less effective underwater. 544

Poison Resistance and Recovery

The ox can operate in poisonous miasma with Lin Chang'an's support.

  • Lin's Evergreen Mana neutralizes poison within its body and accelerates recovery from wounds. 122 124 131 136
  • It was unaffected by a second-tier centipede's venom after Lin prepared it for the miasma zone. 124
  • Physical injuries, such as a Twin-Tailed Poison Scorpion's sting, still cause it considerable pain. 124

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Cyan armor — Forged from Iron-Backed Demon Mantis materials to improve its defensive ability. 88
  • Mystic Iron Armor — Spirit-tool-grade armor purchased for its immense strength and hunting role. 128
  • Black Water Turtle shell armor — Azure scale armor used to supplement its defenses. 393
  • Thunder Tribulation Wood — Placed atop its horns during its Humanoid Transformation Tribulation to absorb weakened lightning. 468
  • Giant axe — A heavy black Magic Treasure supplied by Jin Jianchuan before the Cloud City operation and used in humanoid form. The ox accepted it only after receiving Lin's approval and later regarded it as a handy weapon. 470 478 481 489
  • Protective Magic Treasures — Several Magic Treasures refined by Lin Chang'an for its protection, used during its years of frontline warfare. 711
  • Spirit Transformation-level Petrification Demon Dragon heart — Obtained at the Ten Thousand Demons Tower and consumed to reinforce its Petrification divine ability and bloodline ahead of its Spirit Transformation attempt. Its energy was also suitable for supporting the Ox Demon Great Strength Art. 714 715
  • Nine-thousand-year-old stone spirit flower — A rare petrifying earth-attribute advancement treasure obtained alongside the Demon Dragon heart. Lin exchanged a fifth-rank formation for the two resources rather than paying their quoted Spirit Stone price. 714

Relationships

  • Lin Chang'an — Master and lifelong companion. Lin purchased and raised the ox from a cub, personally funded its breakthroughs, healed its injuries, and relied on it in combat and travel. He later sought cultivation methods and major resources for its Spirit Transformation. 49 86 124 544 712 715 Lin's willingness to support the ox's advancement became part of his public reputation for loyalty toward those close to him. 716
  • Jin Feng / Phoenix Cry Bird — Fellow spirit pet and frequent bickering companion. The bird often mocks the ox's gluttony and simple-mindedness but worries about it and shares prey with it. 142 253 267 468 She helped guard its Spirit Transformation tribulation and showed genuine happiness at its success. Later, she urged it to understand Petrification's versatility and devote greater effort to body refinement. 716 780
  • Qiu Ling'er / Sword Servant — Companion at Heavenly Spring Peak. She lived harmoniously with the ox and pleaded with Lin on its behalf when it suppressed its breakthrough during his seclusion. 266 288 The ox helped rescue her from a False Core cultivator, and Lin subsequently ordered it to accompany her when she left Heavenly Spring Peak. Their trust was also demonstrated during their running battle against Meng, when she fed it pills and it shielded her. 299 300 368
  • Mo Yin / Yin Spirit Two-Headed Tiger — Fellow spirit pet and hunting partner. They cooperated against Yin Spirit Beast Kings in the Heaven-Reaching Fog Sea. The ox was reluctant to see the tiger left behind as a scout, partly because it feared becoming Jin Feng's main target again, but later showed genuine concern for its companion's difficult life exploring the sea. 330 331 359
  • Spirit Control Sect — The sect treats the transformed ox as its Sacred Beast; disciples and Core Formation cultivators brought it Spirit Fruits and addressed it as Lord Green Ox. 469 Its later fourth-rank mid-stage advancement was to be celebrated jointly with Cheng Qianshan's Nascent Soul Formation. 584
  • Fairy Ice Butterfly — Lin's close companion and a supporter of the ox within the Spirit Control Sect. She comforted Lin during its Humanoid Transformation Tribulation and appreciated the ox's gentle disposition as a Sacred Beast. She later traveled with Lin and the newly advanced ox to Bingjin Mountain Market. 468 469 716
  • Jin Jianchuan — Congratulated Lin on the ox's Humanoid Transformation and supplied it with a heavy black giant axe for the Cloud City operation. He recognized its value as a combatant particularly suited to attacking cities and strongholds. 469 470
  • Fourth-Rank Black Water Turtle — The ox immediately attempted to court True Person Lu's transformed Black Water Turtle, proposing they produce offspring. 489
  • Peacock Princess — Lin Chang'an approached her in Bingjin Mountain Market while seeking a suitable cultivation technique and advancement resources for the Green Ox. 712 715 She provided the first layer of the Ox Demon Great Strength Art and a jade pendant granting access to the Demon Market. 713
  • Wild Crane Wanderer, Evil Blade Patriarch, and Old Devil Hehuan — Lin's cooperating Spirit Transformation allies contributed materials toward the ox's breakthrough. After its advancement, they congratulated and welcomed it as a fellow cultivator, while becoming more cautious about the strength and internal trust of Lin's group. 713 716

Story Role / Major Arcs

Acquisition and Early Growth

Lin Chang'an purchased the high-grade-bloodline cub at auction, choosing its rapid growth and combat potential despite its expensive diet and short natural lifespan. 49 After nearly eight years of raising it, Lin sought Zhou family assistance when its progress toward the second-rank slowed. 78

Lin initially housed the calf in a small courtyard shed and fed it spirit herbs obtained from Zhou Qing. Its expected growth made it a practical long-term combat investment, though reaching the second-rank still required suitable fruits or pills at critical stages. 50

Second-Rank Breakthrough

Lin prepared an extravagant breakthrough regimen of spirit herbs, Beast Spirit Pills, Spirit Spring water, and two Heavenly Spirit Fruits. The ox broke through successfully, became larger, gained mist-based concealment, and extended its lifespan to nearly two hundred years. 86

Its continued growth depended on regular Zhou family supplies, market purchases, and Lin's increasing knowledge of beast raising. After further hunting and nourishment, it attained the second-rank mid-stage during a two-year period of Lin's seclusion. 114 137 142

Cloud Mist Mountain Range Hunts

The ox became Lin's principal close-combat partner in the poisonous miasma. It acted as bait against an Iron-Backed Demon Mantis, hunted venomous insects, carried Lin through dangerous terrain, and proved devastating in direct charges. 68 124 128

It also carried Lin during his escape from an ambush arranged by Huang Shaohai. With Lin using talismans to increase its speed, the ox charged deeper into the mountains and collided head-on with Huang's Earth-Drilling Boat. 137

Bloodline Mutation and Core Formation

After swallowing Fusang Tree essence, the ox underwent a long, lethargic mutation that multiplied its strength and changed its bloodline. 267 268 It eventually formed a high-grade Monster Core and entered the third-rank, awakening Petrification. 290 291

Lin subsequently tested purified black qi on the ox, finding that it nourished the beast rather than provoking the previous harmful reaction. The ox's mutation also later inspired Lin to investigate Demonic Qi as a possible means of addressing Sword Servant's mixed-bloodline shackles. 269 310

Before the breakthrough, Lin openly sought earth-attribute Core Formation resources for the ox at a trading fair. Publicizing this preparation made acquiring resources easier while helping conceal the Phoenix Cry Bird's greater significance. The ox's high-grade Monster Core later increased Lin's prestige and made surrounding factions more cautious. 280 290

Protection of Sword Servant and Fog Sea Expeditions

The ox intervened when a Li-surnamed False Core cultivator attacked Sword Servant over a damaged sword hilt. It repelled his Great Seal, used Petrification to break his defenses, and endured his self-detonation while Lin completed the rescue. Lin then designated it as Sword Servant's escort when she left Heavenly Spring Peak. 299 300

During expeditions into the Heaven-Reaching Fog Sea, the ox annihilated lesser Yin Spirits, fought alongside the Phoenix Cry Bird and Two-Headed Tiger, and helped attack a Yin Spirit Ship by damaging its hull from below while Lin broke its defensive formation. 315 330 331

Later, it and Sword Servant fought a running battle against a late-stage Core Formation cultivator from the Meng Family. Their combined attacks cracked his turtle-shell defensive treasure, and they drew him toward an island trap before Lin killed him. The encounter exposed the ox's mutated Petrification bloodline, which Lin incorporated into his public reputation as a deterrent rather than attempting to keep it entirely secret. 368 369

Sacred Beast of the Spirit Control Sect

The ox survived its Humanoid Transformation Tribulation and became a fourth-rank Great Demon. Its ascension made it the Spirit Control Sect's Sacred Beast and a significant strategic asset for the Dao Protection Alliance. 468 469

The breakthrough was supported by the sect's Mountain Protection Great Array, petrifying mist, defensive treasures, and Thunder Tribulation Wood. After forming an Essence Spirit Demon Core, it remained encased in petrified matter during its Heart Demon Tribulation; the shell broke apart three days later when it completed the transformation. 468

Its public ceremony also served as a distraction while Lin, Fairy Ice Butterfly, and Jin Jianchuan prepared their secret Cloud City operation. Jin supplied the ox with a heavy axe, recognizing that its massive body and strength made it especially valuable for the assault. 469 470

Fourth-Rank Advancement

The ox initially failed to break through to the fourth-rank mid-stage, revealing the limits of its original bloodline despite its mutation. 544 It later attained the fourth-rank mid-stage and continued serving as Lin Chang'an's imposing mount and combat support. 584 595

Its failed attempt nevertheless loosened the bottleneck and caused little vitality loss. Lin comforted it and sought resources to strengthen its foundation and shorten the interval before another attempt. By its return to the Spirit Control Sect, the ox was treating the renewed attempt with unusual seriousness rather than spending time enjoying disciples' offerings. 544 581

At the fourth-rank, it also assisted Lin in close combat against a Mystic Nether Ice Toad encountered in ancient ruins connected to a Demon Sealing Abyss seal. 489

Frontline Battles and Spirit Transformation

After reaching the fourth-rank late-stage, the Green Ox fought in frontline conflicts for years, becoming a formidable battlefield asset whose strength and Petrification bloodline placed it among the leading Nascent Soul-level combatants. 711 713 Lin Chang'an then prioritized its next breakthrough, searching the Demon Race Market for a cultivation technique and suitable resources. 712 713

Lin exchanged five scriptures with Peacock Princess for the first layer of the Ox Demon Great Strength Art, then used her jade pendant to obtain access to the Ten Thousand Demons Tower. There, he acquired a Spirit Transformation Petrification Demon Dragon heart and a nine-thousand-year-old stone spirit flower suited to the ox's bloodline, trading a fifth-rank formation for them despite the ox's concern over their cost. 713 714

With two powerful spiritual treasures and the heart of a Spirit Transformation-level Petrification Demon Dragon, the ox entered seclusion and successfully advanced to Spirit Transformation on its second attempt. Its breakthrough strengthened Lin Chang'an's faction by adding another Spirit Transformation combatant. 715 716

Lin and Jin Feng guarded the tribulation, during which the ox relied partly on its enhanced Petrification. The successful advancement brought it the status of Demon Lord and immediately affected local politics: cultivators sought to join Lin's side, and established powers reconsidered the balance around his growing group. 716

Return-Yang Water Preparations

Lin delayed acting on the Treasure-Seeking Mouse descendant's proposed Return-Yang Water opportunity until the ox advanced, judging that an additional Spirit Transformation ally would improve the group's prospects. After stabilizing its new realm, the ox accompanied Lin and Fairy Ice Butterfly to Bingjin Mountain Market. Wild Crane Wanderer and his allies welcomed it as an equal, but its presence increased their caution toward Lin's closely united faction. 714 716

Reassessment of Petrification

During a later soul-hunting expedition, the ox complained that its mutated earth bloodline rarely specifically countered an enemy and that its defenses and attacks did not match beasts specialized exclusively in those areas. Jin Feng rejected this assessment, stressing that Petrification combined offense and defense and could complement stronger body refinement, weaken enemies, or control them. 780
