Background

Lord of the Hell Dimension

Mephisto is among the earliest demons born from the Abyss and became the lord of a Hell Dimension. His existence is bound to that dimension: as long as it remains intact, he cannot be completely killed. Though he governs the dimension, he initially possesses only a controlling share of its rule authorities rather than absolute ownership. 349 394

Unlike more openly destructive demons, Mephisto generally respects the ancient rules governing the mortal realm. Those restrictions severely limit the power he can wield on Earth, forcing him to act through projections and avatars; he therefore favors contracts, loopholes, manipulation, and long-term schemes. 302 347

Creation of the Ghost Riders

Mephisto created the Ghost Rider profession by exploiting demon contracts. Humans who willingly sign are implanted with hellfire and fragments of the slain Demon King Zarathos's soul, allowing them to wield Hell's power without violating the gods' restrictions on Earth. 293

His ultimate objective is to use successive Ghost Riders to kill demons and gradually erode Zarathos's soul imprint. When a Rider dies, their contract-bound soul returns to Mephisto; over enough generations, he expects to erase Zarathos's remaining imprint and claim complete control of hellfire. 331

The Kale Family became a central source of Ghost Riders. Its descendants may either contract with Mephisto for crimson hellfire or inherit Zadkiel's icy-blue Flame of Vengeance, an arrangement shaped by an agreement among Mephisto, Zadkiel, and Pastor Kale. 337 338

Mephisto corrupted the devout residents of San Venganza through blasphemous words, creating more than a thousand exceptionally potent original-sin souls and a fallen piece of land.
