Background / History

Cobblepot is the descendant of one of Gotham's original Four Great Families. His father died when he was young, leaving the family in decline and forcing it to survive through underworld work. He was raised by his mentally unstable mother, whom he continued to love and care for despite her episodes of confinement and neglect. 227 228

As a student, Cobblepot was physically frail, short, and afflicted with a limp caused by childhood illness. He was routinely bullied at school, yet endured it quietly while prioritizing his mother's emotional stability.
