What was a "god"?

The philosophical concept of a "god" was far too obscure and difficult to grasp. Even Mizuki could not offer a simple definition.

In the Shinobi World, where supernatural power manifested openly, "gods" and "humans" might differ in status and might, but there was not much difference between them as categories of definition.

Mizuki could not perfectly define "human nature," so naturally, neither could he give an accurate definition of "divinity."

Did human faith create the gods, or did divine authority shelter humanity? No one could say for sure.

In theory, anything capable of accomplishing miracles that humans could absolutely never achieve under ordinary circumstances could be considered divine power.

This was actually easy enough to understand. In the Shinobi World, although Mizuki had no awareness of himself as a "god," ordinary civilians would not see him as some alien being. In fact, because he was a shinobi rather than a direct force under the daimyo, the representative of secular authority, he even seemed to rank lower in their eyes.

But that was merely a bizarre perception born of the Shinobi World's unique circumstances. Mizuki naturally did not take it to heart. Though he found it beneath notice and would not bother arguing with fellow humans he could crush with the flick of a finger, that did not mean he would not strike back when angered.

Just thinking about it made the answer obvious. If Mizuki had possessed his current abilities in his previous life, he could practically have toyed with the whole world in the palm of his hand. Even if God Himself returned to life, He might only surpass Mizuki in the authority of creation; in every other trick of playing god, He might not necessarily have been more adept than Mizuki.
