Background / History

According to legend, the world originally lacked chakra, with the origin of ninjas tied to the Sage of Six Paths. Mizuki attributes chakra’s arrival to Kaguya Ōtsutsuki and theorizes that the God Tree was an instrument used to plunder the world; he treats the full history of these events as uncertain. 8

The Sage of Six Paths separated yin, yang, and the five elemental natures, shaping the later structure of chakra and ninjutsu. Later, the one-country, one-village system replaced centuries of clan vendettas with secular nations supported by shinobi villages, giving ordinary people a more stable right to live despite continued wars. 118 634

Mizuki theorizes that the ancient world was larger, richer in natural energy, and inhabited by powerful giant creatures. As natural energy declined, the world and its ecosystems contracted; surviving intelligent species established shelters that eventually became the sacred lands of summoning beasts. 456

By the Fourth Shinobi World War, the accumulated damage of chakra, foreign bloodlines, soul manipulation, and constant conflict had pushed the world toward a breaking point.
