Early Career and Defection

Orochimaru was a gifted, warmhearted child whose experiences of war gradually made him selfish and self-centered. Curiosity about the unknown and fear of death drove his pursuit of forbidden techniques and immortality 536.

He studied under Hiruzen Sarutobi alongside Jiraiya and Tsunade. The three became known as the Sannin after surviving their battle against Hanzo. Orochimaru later defected from Konoha and joined Akatsuki for his own research interests, including curiosity about the Rinnegan. He left the organization after failing to ambush Itachi Uchiha 21 87 542.

Chūnin Exams and Konoha Crush

Orochimaru infiltrated the Chūnin Exams under a Grass Ninja disguise. In the Forest of Death, he overwhelmed Mizuki's Shadow Clone in direct exchanges, but survived the clone's large-scale sealing attack through substitution and body replacement. Defeat and Survival

Orochimaru's attempt to possess Sasuke encountered a spiritual contingency Mizuki had sealed within him. Sasuke ultimately defeated him, but Orochimaru's lingering obsession survived in the curse mark.
