Background
Zhong Mu lost her mother in childhood and her father at twelve. After her only younger brother left to seek immortality, she assumed control of the family business, expanding the Zhong family's already considerable holdings in Frost City. 74
She chose to marry Ju Hua after noticing him while he worked in Zhong family businesses. She initially admired his appearance, then came to value his steady and composed temperament. 75 While Ju Hua managed the business after their marriage, Zhong Mu continued training to maintain the strength needed to protect the family. 75
Her diligence carried her from Houtian to Xiantian. Later, after saving an old beggar who proved to be a hidden immortal, she received an internal-energy cultivation method and a complete fist-technique inheritance. 75 She shared the inheritance with Ju Hua and eventually became a Zifu cultivator. 76
Unable to accept Ju Hua's mortal lifespan, Zhong Mu left Frost City to acquire medicine that could make him a Xiantian lifeform. She spent ten years enduring poverty, dangerous assignments, and discrimination in East Glory City while gathering Essence Liquid. 77 78
Bao Lian exploited Zhong Mu's hope of joining the East Glory Sect and arranged to sell her. Zhong Mu refused the East Glory Sect Young Master's demand to become his concubine, even after he threatened Ju Hua. 79 81 Ju Hua intervened, revealed that he was a Loose Immortal and Void-Return God-Demon rather than a mortal, and eliminated the conspirators after Zhong Mu left their punishment to him. 82
Though shaken by Ju Hua's hidden identity and original reason for entering Frost City, Zhong Mu accepted that his affection for her had become genuine. 84 She was publicly introduced as Ju Hua's Dao companion to Zhuanshui Qiu. 111
After traveling and cultivating alongside Ju Hua, she attained Void-Refining Earth Immortal status. 118 Following a lengthy journey of her own, she returned to prepare for her Celestial Immortal Tribulation and asked Ju Hua to locate the reincarnation of her deceased younger brother. 274 She reunited with Qin Qing before her Heart Demon Tribulation, then successfully became a Celestial Immortal. 277 278
Personality
Zhong Mu is capable, forthright, and unusually self-reliant. Rather than allowing the loss of her parents to ruin her, she preserved and expanded the Zhong family business while still training in martial arts. 74 75
Her devotion to Ju Hua defines many of her decisions. She spent a decade in East Glory City gathering resources for a husband she believed to be mortal, despite the difference in their lifespans and cultivation. 77 78 She also refuses to sacrifice her dignity or loyalty for advancement, rejecting the Young Master's coercive offer despite his threats. 81
Her experiences make her more cautious and resilient. She initially trusted Bao Lian, but became suspicious after the lethal “spar” at the Drunken Immortal Pavilion. 80 Even after being endangered by the scheme, she showed compassion for the woman she accidentally killed in self-defense and was grateful when Ju Hua revived her. 82
