Whis looked ahead.
"They're here!"
As soon as Whis finished speaking, two figures appeared before them: Vegeta and Son Goku.
"Kakarot, show Lord Beerus some respect!"
Vegeta immediately spoke to Son Goku.
"You're Son Goku, the one who defeated Frieza?"
Beerus looked at Son Goku without the slightest expression on his face.
To him, Frieza was nothing more than trash.
"It was just luck. You're too kind, Lord Beerus."
Son Goku smiled. Though he said that, he didn't deny it.
"But whether it was luck or not, the fact that you defeated Frieza shows you have some ability.
"But you didn't look like this when you defeated Frieza.
"You must be able to transform!"
After studying Son Goku for a while, Beerus spoke, voicing his guess.
"Yeah. When I defeated Frieza, I transformed into the legendary Super Saiyan of the Saiyan race."
Son Goku made no effort to hide it.
He didn't know how Beerus had found out, but since Beerus was a god, he must have had some special way of knowing.
Besides, it wasn't anything worth worrying about.
By now, nearly everyone in the universe who knew of him also knew he could transform.
"Show me."
Beerus spoke as if addressing Son Goku from a position of authority, his tone leaving no room for argument.
"Okay!"
Son Goku didn't hesitate or take offense at Beerus's tone.
Boom!
As Son Goku clenched his fists, a powerful aura erupted from him.
A wave of air spread around them.
Beerus casually slapped it away.
Golden light flashed into view, and Son Goku transformed into a Super Saiyan.
"So this is a Super Saiyan?
"Now that I've seen it, Frieza really was no match for you."
Beerus spoke slowly.
Even after transforming, Son Goku's strength was still utterly insignificant to Beerus. Still, in this form, defeating someone like Frieza would be easy for him.
"Son Goku, do you know about the Super Saiyan God?"
Beerus looked at Son Goku and asked the very question that had brought him here.
"Super Saiyan God?"
Son Goku glanced at Vegeta, then shook his head, reacting just as Vegeta had.
"Lord Beerus, I've never heard of a Super Saiyan God."
Son Goku answered honestly.
"You don't know either."
Beerus frowned. This was somewhat unexpected.
"Lord Beerus, it was just a dream. How could anyone in this world possibly be your match?"
Whis spoke with some displeasure. They had traveled all this way for nothing, so it was only natural that he felt a little resentful.
"What? You look unhappy that we came all this way for nothing?"
Beerus frowned and glanced at Whis beside him.
"Never mind. If there's no news about the Super Saiyan God, let's head back."
Beerus had naturally lost interest. Just seeing Son Goku and the others, and thinking about how he'd wasted more than twenty minutes, even made him want to destroy Earth.
"Wait!"
As soon as Son Goku heard that Beerus was leaving, he spoke up.
"Kakarot, what are you doing?!"
Vegeta had just breathed a sigh of relief at the thought of Beerus leaving. With Beerus gone, Earth would have escaped disaster.
But Son Goku's words made Vegeta's relieved heart tense up again.
"What is it?"
Beerus glanced at Son Goku.
"Lord Beerus, I've heard you're really strong."
Son Goku paid no heed to Vegeta's warning, his eyes filled with anticipation.
At those words, Vegeta's face changed. He wasn't the only one—far away, Old Supreme Kai and Supreme Kai Shin, who were watching everything happening on Earth, were also shaken when they heard Son Goku.
"This..."
"What is that guy thinking?!"
Old Supreme Kai was so furious in the Supreme Kai World that he flailed his arms around. He even felt like rushing over and slapping Son Goku to death.
"Mr. Goku!"
Supreme Kai Shin was at a loss for words, his face darkening. Thanks to Old Supreme Kai's explanation, he already knew exactly what kind of person Lord Beerus was.
It would have been bad enough if they'd simply let Lord Beerus leave, but Son Goku's words might bring about an unexpected turn of events.
"Lord Beerus, I've heard that you're very strong.
"Would you mind having a little spar with me?"
Sure enough, Son Goku didn't disappoint everyone's expectations. He really did have no sense of self-preservation, and said it outright.
"You idiot, Kakarot!"
Vegeta rushed forward first, instantly stepping in front of Son Goku to shield him.
He pressed his hands together and bowed his head, lowering it almost to the ground.
"Lord Beerus, Kakarot hit his head when he was little, and it's left him a little confused at times. I hope you'll forgive him."
Vegeta spoke in a humble, nervous voice.
But Beerus completely ignored him.
"You want to see how strong I am?"
Beerus looked at Son Goku, then suddenly laughed.
"Ha ha ha!"
Beerus burst into laughter. It was easily the funniest thing he'd heard since waking up.
"Lord Beerus, I wonder if you'd agree?"
Son Goku looked at him nervously, but his voice was full of anticipation.
He'd only heard that Beerus, the God of Destruction, was powerful. He'd never actually seen it for himself.
And when he met a strong opponent, Son Goku just couldn't bear to pass up the chance to spar with them.
Just like when he'd wanted to fight Soya earlier.
That was the kind of person Son Goku was.
He never passed up an opportunity.
"I'm not interested!"
After laughing, Beerus's expression instantly turned cold again, his voice utterly indifferent.
Hearing this, Vegeta breathed a sigh of relief once more.
Thank goodness Lord Beerus hadn't flown into a rage over something Son Goku had said.
His expression had certainly turned colder, but the situation could still be salvaged.
"Lord Beerus..."
Vegeta looked at Beerus's now-cold face with concern. He was about to drag Son Goku over to apologize when Son Goku's voice interrupted him.
"Lord Beerus, are you scared?"
Son Goku never knew where the line was, much less when to back down. Instead, he kept needling Beerus, provoking him and testing his limits.
